That reminds me, since HF also has the Skil worm drive lube.

Could/would you use that on a ratchet?

Not sure if it really matters, but I just used a couple drops of good ol' 30w from my squirt can. Figure if it's good enough for a combustion engine, it's probably good enough for a simple $12 ratchet. Still better than what was in it already, which was NOTHING!

I use white lithium grease or ATF. Really, any oil or grease will be fine. Anything is better than nothing...

Just wanted to thank everybody for the tip on this ratchet. I went to my local Lowe's in Brewer, Maine to get one of these kits and did not see them. Luckily a store clerk came by and asked me if he could help and they were keeping these kits down in lawn and garden section. I scored it for 12.58 also. There was an older gent looking at tools too, I brought him over to lawn and garden and he purchased a set too and they gave him a military discount on it also.

Bought some files that were on closeout too but these files were made in Mexico but should be fine for me.

After finding the display for these in the garden section a couple of weeks ago, I noticed yesterday while shopping for something else that it had been moved to the electrical aisle.

No wonder they aren't selling.

Lowes has been checking us out. I paid $14 and change a few weeks back, just checked the website and they jacked up the price to $17.99.

Dan

This must be a regional thing. Still $12.58 in Vermont as of this morning.

Um, the ratchets are dry......:dunno:

so maybe start a ratchet lube thread, im sure its been covered anyhow.
i just thought it was silly to start a lube thread within a thread in the
★★ Hot Deals ★★ section. maybe im just stupid but thats the kind of **** that made the last hot deals thread a pain to sift thru. see now i have made another post unrelated to the OP...somebody will claim that i have gotten off topic....my deepest apologies in advance

I fail to see how this thread is a pain to "sift through" as the deal is posted on the first page. The ratchets are dry and people discussing how to make the specific ratchet work better is part of what makes the deal, a hot deal.
This thread has been going about where these are located in the store, to what quantities people have bought and what price was paid.

That's the reason the original hot deals thread was closed and a forum for hot deals was opened. The deal is posted on the first page and any conversations regarding that hot deal are to take place in the thread.

These things still aren't moving at my store, even for $12.

Get them while you can, I don't think they'll take a hit on something like this again.

i didnt say this thread was hard to sift thu. i said the old hot deals was a pain to sift thru. you make a valid point about the first page is the DEAL.
but as you know this particular deal started at 19.97, if you followed it dropped to 17.** then 15.** and now is 12.58 at my store. i just go to the last page to see if its still dropping and low and behold the first five post of the last page is how to lube a ratchet. so,,,, no its not detrimental to my health, i aint gonna die from scrolling down. i just wondered how it got slightly derailed , i just thought that if i received a ratchet that felt like it needs lube then id just lube it. i figured most people smart enuff to use a ratchet could figure out how to lube a ratchet. im sorry but i fail to see how lubing a ratchet could be that complicated. i did a search for "ratchet lube" and on the 1st page alone there were over 10 threads on the subject. what i really fail to see is why nobody uses the search to find answers to questions that have been answered dozens of times. i have made another post off topic of the OP so im thoroughly done with this thread as i hate to add to the very issue i brought up. i have 4 of these ratchets now so i have no need to look here again. good day to you

the screwdriver handle idea is great!!! How did you go about it? I'm going to go buy another one tomorrow and hopefully put a handle on it. We should all build a gigantic tower of the useless spark plugs sockets we have!!!

I went to check out the Nicholson files, all were either made in Mexico or Brazil. So I picked up one more ratchet set for $12.58, the first two were $19.95 ea so I am averaging downward, $17.49 average. :D

Not many sets left though in South KC Lowes.

****!! My Lowe's is out of stock, but the price was still listed as $17.97. I was going to pick up another and make a stubby out of it.
