That's not a krl722, but that is a great price. Looks to be an early to mid 90s krl6xx? Pretty sure snap on will warentee the slides.

I'm not sure, but I did google image search and it looks more like a krl1001 based on what I saw, but again, I don't know enough about them.

He stated in his ad that he was interested in a smaller box, maybe he might be interested in my cornwell that I just got.

Yes, from what I see, it is a KRL661.

edit to add: Well, let us see if I can work a trade. That box is missing handle too. Wonder how beat that box actually is.

Whatever it is, it is not KRL1001. Those are 30" deep boxes. This one is 24" at best.

$750 is super cheap but it depends on how bad the slides are. It is a big MAYBE if you can get new slides from Snap-On. And new slides may not solve the problem. Possible that breaking into the box may have tweaked something.

If you have the gonads to walk onto a truck for the first time ever with a bunch of busted slides looking for warranty, have at it.

As mentioned in past threads, Snap-On may be firming up their warranty policy.

I certainly will have to check the slides and what not to see if they are actually broken. Could possibly be gummed up, but who really knows for sure.

I'm going back and forth with seller now to see if we can work a potential trade.

Someone will just buy it if it's not out of square. It looks like an excellent deal!

Then I seriously hope they are softening up their prices. Even my dealer has, the only thing that makes snap-on tools worth the premium they charge is the no questions asked, direct to your door step replacement of all of their products and components. (1/8" drive socket sets excluded, but they inform you before you pay)

So, obviously, taking a "square" might be a good idea?

I talked to the seller and he stated that some of the slides are worn. What are the cost of the slides? If I have to buy some tools to get this fixed if I get it, I'm good with that.

Locks are obviously gone and will need to be replaced, but everything regarding the locking mechanism is there.

No major dents. Just some small dings here and there.

Missing handle. That may not be much of an issue.

Wish me luck. I don't NEED a bigger box at this time, but if I can trade straight across, I can't see a reason to pass it up.

Edit to add:

HOLY ..... Snap on list price per slide: 67.20, locks 34.00 and handle for 7.00.

That box is 50" wide, 21" deep, 44"ish tall. It is narrower and more shallow then a 722 which is 54 x 24. It is a deep row of drawers taller then a 722 so storage would be somewhere close to a wash.

If I recall correctly, the Cornwell I have is about 18k cubic inches and this Snap On is about 22k. I could certainly use the extra space in the future and the work area available on top now.

If you cant get the slides replaced through SO, you might be able to get them cheaper through the manufacturer (Accuride?) or wholesale company. Although I have never seen a SO box with bearing slides that were so bad they needed replacing. Usually a little cornhead grease and straightening of the bearing cages and they are like new.

Going to go in a few minutes and actually take a look at it. Maybe the stars will once again line up.

Just got back.

Seller was really cool and I think we spent more time talking about what is wrong with the world than the toolbox.

It's seen some use and personally, with the little experience I have with boxes other than I know that they can be damn pricey, his asking price or best offer is not a bad deal.

If I had the cash, I think I'd be on it.

It's the potential cost of the slides that I think might hinder this deal for me. I don't know a Snap on dealer and don't know that I could just walk up to a truck and ask for warranty repair.

That's the only issue I'd have if I was shopping for it. I don't like dings or dents.

With a box that size and weight empty, I'm not sure with it's age how you could find one that's been used without them.

I'd be wondering how many door dings that thing has created....lol

Did you find out the model #? Looking at the SO parts catalog it looks like a KRL661 like Highhorse78 mentioned. From the CL pic it looks like the wide top draw needs new slides and they are $97 for that drawer and $67 for the other drawers-- all ball bearing.

I should have looked, but I didn't, I think we had agreed that is was actually a KR661 based on the measurements and draw configuration.

Not all of them. Slides either need cleaning and lube or replacement.

Dude, good luck finding a full size box cheaper than that. Even after buying all of the drawer slides, you wont be over 1300 max? Keep in mind, the cost for the drawer slides are PER DRAWER, not per side of each drawer. Not sure if you knew that or not. That box will be good as new, and last a lifetime. +/- a few hundred bucks for slides should not be a deal breaker.

Edit: just did the math. thats about 700 bucks for almost all of the slides. That is a lot of cash. Your call I guess.

I think it's worth the gamble if you want it.I bet they just need cleaned and lube. That looks to nice to need replacements. Some good old tlc may bring it back.

Yeah, I'm still considering it, but at the moment, I don't really need a bigger box as the Cornwell has taken up some space that I need, but is a little more manageable than the snap on.

The only considerations I have truly are:

1. The ability to use the SO top as a bench. I can use the Cornwell top too, but it's smaller area and the fact that if I have something on top of the box and then happen to need something in the top area, then I have to move stuff or plan ahead.

2. Based on the numbers, the overall square inches of the SO is not that significant considering I could add a side cabinet to the Cornwell later on if I need and the cost of the side box being not far off from the potential costs of slides, I think I'd rather spend that money on something optional and not a necessity.

3. It seemed that the guage of steel used on the so box is thinner than the cornwell, but need to research to see.

While none of these individually are big issues that would break a deal, all of them seem to add up.

I'm probably being ****, but since I have a really nice box now, albeit not as big as the SO, box, I've not yet run out of space in the cornwell.

On a side note, the wife likes the cornwell better, if that means anything....lol

Edit to add:

Having done some searching, there seems to be about 2000, maybe less, more square inches of storage in the so box. So while it has a top that can be used as a bench, I think I will stick with my cornwell and look at a side cabinet in the future if I need more space.

Try calling Snap On customer service. They sent me slides free of charge, and even offered to send me eight sets of them, when I only needed four sets. This was for my eight drawer roller box.

I've never had a problem getting slides replaced by Snap-on through the mail. But I've only sent them broken slides. I've read here that they will not replace them for free if they are just worn. Just don't tell them you bought the box second hand.

That is a smoking deal. I looked at a 661 last night that the guy wanted 800 for, and it would have needed atleast 50 hours of restoration. Probably more.

Anyone in the area should go get this box. I am going to pass on it. I called Snap On today and told them I needed slides replaced. They stated no problem, just need proof of purchase for the cabinet. I'm not really interested in having to tell any stories to get something covered under warranty.

The slide are 67 bucks a set. Not a bad price, but I'm already in the middle of replacing an engine in my truck, I don't really need another project. I've got a good box now that will do me for a while.

I had to replace the passenger side motor mount today and having a nice box with working drawers within arms reach was simply awesome.
