Biggest problem with penetrating oils. Noone lets them sit long enough to do their job. It's always spray it on, and 20 seconds later, out comes the impact...

"Biggest problem with penetrating oils. No one lets them sit long enough to do their job. It's always spray it on, and 20 seconds later, out comes the impact...

This is the truth, just give it enough time to work.

I had to keep spraying an old John Deere seed drill with PB blaster for over three months to break it loose. The machine had been parked in the open and forgotten for about ten years. I had to clear all the vines off of it and cut the small trees down that had grown around it before I could start soaking it. I got it broke loose and use it several times a year now for planting.

The WD part of WD-40 stands for water displacement. It was formulated to protect aircraft assemblies while they were in storage. It's not even a penetrating oil.

I use PB Blaster becuse it's easy to find. If Kriol was available localy I would give it a try.

I have used pb and it is okay. I have used zep as someone mentioned earlier and I think it works better than the pb. I have never tried kroil but I am definetly going to get the google deal and see if it is as good as the hype.

I have also use some stuff from Kimball Midwest, I am not sure if it can be purchased on a non company account. But that stuff is awesome. They also have a whole line of other tools and 90% of there stuff is us made or so they claim. I am going to try to get some of there drill bits to I was just wathcing there vid
and at 1:30 that bit looks bad a$$.

I know it was not one of the choice but this thread has got me wanting the kroil just to see.

It's sort of an inside joke. The ****** fluid/acetone mix is always brought up whenever the "best penetrating lubricant" discussion is held around here. Primarily, it's people saying: "I haven't mixed any up yet, but I hear it's better than Kroil." then "No way, Kroil is the only thing that would get the bolts on my..."

You get the idea.

I think the OP was wanting to keep this thread to PB vs. Kroil. Thus the references to the "mix we do not mention".

As for me, I like Kroil, but I've been wanting to mix up some...:bounce:

Gotcha! Thanx!

Also, another forum mentioned Blue Mountain Sports in NB. This forum was related to guns, apparently Kroil is used widely by gun owners.

Blue Mountain Sports Inc.

I have Kroil Oil and AeroKroil from the Gun Forums as well. Haven't used any on my Garage stuff yet. The Gun forums is how I found out about Ed's Red as well.

How many creeps do you have to render for a can of creep oil? If you lived in Tennessee, you would know that Nashville is the best source. Great stuff, by the way.

Now that's Funny!

I had a problem I tried to use PB Blaster on about 6 months ago. It failed miserably and I didn't know about trying Kroil at that time.

The problem was I had 2 spray heads on some Garden Hoses and they were stuck. I soaked PB Blaster for about a week and nothing happened. I had to cut the end off and repair the end of 2 nice hoses. Really pissed. I didn't have the Aero Kroil at that time or know anything about it.

I've used a fair amount of both and I prefer Kroil hands down, when I can get it. I even like the smell.

I'm guessing ordering from the kano site it takes awhile for them to process the order?

I placed my order Wednesday afternoon and the charge was posted to my account yesterday afternoon. Don't know when I will actually see it, but they have processed my payment.

I'm disappointed! The guy that sells Kroil at the flea market has jacked his price for a can of Aerokroil from $2 to $3!

Garden hoses with brass couplers? IE no rust? I don't think penetrating oil would help at all for something like that...

When ordering from Kano, I just put my own name for a company name. That has never been a problem.

Kroil hands down. Use it all the time in the engine room of an aircraft carrier, so almost every fastener has had massive amounts of seawater or steam exposure. I can't remember a fastener that I have snapped while using Kroil, and I use it all the time on my rust-bucket of a 240sx. PB Blast is a few grades below Kroil in my opinion. I'm not sayin'...i'm just sayin'

You are joking right? Must be, because those prices are way too low.

On the other hand, if Kroil really is available at the flea market (even at normal prices) where is the flea market?

If you decided to try ATF/Acetone-- it does work very nicely-- be careful of what container you store it in.

Don't ask...

I am a converted PB user. Kroil is some pretty impressive stuff. About the flea market kroil, there is an expiration date for kroil which I was surprised about. Forget what it is, maybe 2 years.

I have not had any penetrating oil get down into the threads of a seized bolt, especially wheel cylinder bleeders. I have found that penetrating oil helps fasteners cut down on friction after it is broke loose and reduced the chance of the bolt shearing off on the way out.

I use PB and Liquid Wrench on the "everyday" ugly looking bolts, but the Kroil comes out for the bad stuff. I too think Liquid Wrench is better than PB, but I buy them both.

Kroil for the win - but just don't read the MSDS...

______________________________________________________________

This is suppose to be better.... http://www.handloads.com/articles/default.asp?id=9

CONTENTS: Ed's Red Bore Cleaner

1 part Dexron II, IIe or III ATF, GM Spec. D-20265 or later.

1 part Kerosene - deodorized, K1

1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits, Fed. Spec. TT-T-2981F, CAS
#64741-49-9, or may substitute "Stoddard Solvent", CAS #8052-41-3, or
equivalent, (aka "Varsol")

1 part Acetone, CAS #67-64-1.

(Optional up to 1 lb. of Lanolin, Anhydrous, USP per gallon, OK to
substitute Lanolin, Modified, Topical Lubricant, from the drug store)

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS FOR "ER" BORE CLEANER:

Mix outdoors, in good ventilation. Use a clean 1 gallon metal,
chemical-resistant, heavy gage PET or PVC plastic container. NFPA
approved plastic gasoline storage containers are also OK. Do NOT use
HDPE, which is permeable, because the acetone will eventually evaporate.
The acetone in ER will also attack HDPE, causing the container to
collapse, making a heck of a mess!

Add the ATF first. Use the empty container to measure the other
components, so that it is thoroughly rinsed. If you incorporate the
lanolin into the mixture, melt this carefully in a double boiler, taking
precautions against fire. Pour the melted lanolin it into a larger
container, rinsing the lanolin container with the bore cleaner mix, and
stirring until it is all dissolved.

I recommend diverting a small quantity, up to 4 ozs. per quart of the
50-50 ATF/kerosene mix for optional use as an "ER-compatible" gun oil.
This can be done without impairing the effectiveness of the remaining
mix.

I have only used PB Blaster, and I don't think I've had it actually work on anything I've used it on yet!

Well, not as intended anyway. One time I was trying to replace my shocks, because they were rattling so bad from bad rubber bushings. The bolts wouldn't budge, so I sprayed them like crazy with PB Blaster and let them sit overnight. I tried to remove them again, but they still wouldn't budge, however, the PB Blaster, worked it's way into the bushings, and plumped them up! The rattle disappeared. I still wanted to replace the shocks, so I sprayed it every day with PB Blaster for several weeks, but never got it to budge.

With the rattle gone, I just let be. It's been over a year now and the rattle hasn't returned. So the PB Blaster worked for that anyway.

Then there was my brother's throttle position sensor attached to his throttle body.

It went bad, and I tried to change it out for him. The screws wouldn't budge no matter how hard I tried. They had corroded into the aluminum throttle body so badly.

I sprayed and sprayed the PB Blaster on the screws, and they never budged. Ended up having to go get a whole new throttle body and sensor from the scrap yard.

After I got the new parts, I tried again (now not caring if I damaged it) to remove the TPS from the old throttle body, and I just couldn't do it no matter what I tried.

My most recent failed use of it was when a steel hose end corroded to my furnace drain. I tried everything from hammering, using my Channellock 460's on it, etc. I sprayed it with PB Blaster every day for weeks with no luck.

Finally, I just got my hacksaw and cut it off. Inside the hose end was loaded with rust, but was dry as a bone. The PB Blaster never even penetrated in to it.

I recently bought some Liquid Wrench, but have yet to try it on anything.

One of these days, I'm going to have to give Kroil a shot too. It has got to be better than PB Blaster, at least for me.

Just got my shipment too.

Here's a question for those of you that have been using Kroil for a while:

One of the uses it gives on the can is air tool lubrication. Anyone use Kroil for their air tools?
