Kroil here.

I started using PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench when I started working at my job wrenching as that is what my boss was buying. I thought they both worked OK but didn't really have much to compare it to other the WD40 which I wasn't really impressed with as far as a penetrant.

About 10 years ago a local sales rep brought me in a can of Kroil to try. I fell in love with it almost instantly. I started using it at my home shop as well and have had great results for the past ten years with it. We have a local supplier that sells us our Kroil.

Mike.

So far kroil is meh.. I felt more like you are paying for the name.. I tried to take my nut off the exhaust stud but the stud came out of the head so maybe I need something else to try it out on.

Kroil or other light penetrating oil is not suitable IMO for air tool oil in its own, but it does come in handy as a cleaner. Flood the tool with the penetrating oil, run at mid speed under no load until the crud stops coming from the exhaust, then follow up with a normal oiling with proper air tool oil.

Kroil for the win - but just don't read the MSDS...

This is suppose to be better.... http://www.handloads.com/articles/default.asp?id=9

CONTENTS: Ed's Red Bore Cleaner

1 part Dexron II, IIe or III ATF, GM Spec. D-20265 or later.

1 part Kerosene - deodorized, K1

1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits, Fed. Spec. TT-T-2981F, CAS
#64741-49-9, or may substitute "Stoddard Solvent", CAS #8052-41-3, or
equivalent, (aka "Varsol")

1 part Acetone, CAS #67-64-1.

(Optional up to 1 lb. of Lanolin, Anhydrous, USP per gallon, OK to
substitute Lanolin, Modified, Topical Lubricant, from the drug store)

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS FOR "ER" BORE CLEANER:

Mix outdoors, in good ventilation. Use a clean 1 gallon metal,
chemical-resistant, heavy gage PET or PVC plastic container. NFPA
approved plastic gasoline storage containers are also OK. Do NOT use
HDPE, which is permeable, because the acetone will eventually evaporate.
The acetone in ER will also attack HDPE, causing the container to
collapse, making a heck of a mess!

Add the ATF first. Use the empty container to measure the other
components, so that it is thoroughly rinsed. If you incorporate the
lanolin into the mixture, melt this carefully in a double boiler, taking
precautions against fire. Pour the melted lanolin it into a larger
container, rinsing the lanolin container with the bore cleaner mix, and
stirring until it is all dissolved.

I recommend diverting a small quantity, up to 4 ozs. per quart of the
50-50 ATF/kerosene mix for optional use as an "ER-compatible" gun oil.
This can be done without impairing the effectiveness of the remaining
mix.

This REALLY makes me want to try and make it now, and have my own Kroil. I always use kroil.. love it, love the smell love how it works. I would just have to find a container to put it in and mix it all. I'm in the process now for a week on spraying my ranger's bed bolts with kroil 3 times a day so that tomorrow I can remove the two last remaining bolts that wouldn't budge otherwise. It's one of those things where when I was younger I would just simply use force and the bolt would either strip or sheer off, I would swear and get pissed...now in my life I am trying to avoid that and be patient with things...lol

Some things are too far gone for any penetrating oil alone to make a difference. Exhaust fasteners always get heated with a torch then sprayed with penetrating oil before I go to loosen them. I ******* hate removing broken studs.

I assure you kroil works and works well but it does have its limits
