I’ll attach a few pics as we go.
This is a 30 x 40 in the backyard. It’s pretty basic compared to some out here but it’s mine.

I’m in the process of trying to decide what size and type I’m going to build but I am pretty sure I’ll be capped at 24x36 although I’d love a 30x40.

What type building are you doing, pole barn, stick, metal?

I’ll be following along.

Shew, you sure picked a cold week to start! I bet its a muddy mess back there now.

I sure envy that view. You're not in city limits are you?

Thanks all!
No, we’re out in horse country. We’re zoned AR, agricultural so as long as I don’t have anyone living in it I’m pretty free.

It’s a pole barn structure. We did have a very cold snap but that’s over for now. All they had to do was clear the snow off.

The base is a former round pen with years of stone dust built up and relatively level.
There will be 6” of #75 gravel leveled with 4” of 4000# concrete.

All of these pictures so far are from the first week, actually only three days of construction.

Just a quick couple of shots from today. All the gravel is in and level. Going to attempt concrete Friday.

Apron. Anyone interested in videos of the build? Not yet sure how to post them here.

I'm about to go to the lighting section and look for ideas.

But, am looking for thoughts on placement of a set of 10 8' Barrina LED lights. My first thought is to put two strips of five each down the long length of the shop, basically short wall to short wall.
Then I started to consider a more staggered placement like a big X starting in the corners, meeting with a pair of tubes basically in the middle of the building.
Looking for ideas, mistakes, re-do wishes, etc.

Heres how I ran my barrinas in my shop. 2 lights on each roof truss.

I feel like I have a good bit of light in there and only thing I would change would be to add more lights under the loft area.

Anytime. Lighting can be a hard thing to get correct. I guess I just got lucky with these. I didnt have a ton of options for placement so I am glad this setup worked out. They are on 2 switches one for front half and one for back half.

Hi all. It's been a bit of a few years.

Within two weeks of posting these pics my wife fell deathly ill with an autoimmune response disease. Her immune system tried to kill her along with an unknown virus she picked up along the way. The outcome was CPAN or cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa. Her immune system attacked the linings of her veins and arteries causing much of her skin on her legs to ulcer and open like burn wounds. Had she responded with SPAN systemic polyarteritis nodosa where her major organs are attacked she likely would have died. CPAN just makes you wish you were dead.

I didn't go into the shop for a very long time during her recovery, which took months. I was laid off in late 2024 as I just couldn't keep up with everything. It took me nine months to find another job in this economy and then they laid me off in January of this year. So I'm back pounding the pavement and training to do DoD/W CMMC Assessment work.

I've at least moved most of my stuff into the shop and got my requisite flag up. I builtShop 2026.JPGShop Door.JPG my own bifold doors over this time but that's about the most productive I've been out there. The weather has been absolute icy **** here for weeks so that's been my excuse to not go out there. I am looking forward to warmer weather in the spring and forcing myself to get out to the shop and put up my cabinets etc.

How do you all handle life distractions like these? Do they drive you to the shop or make you just not care at all?

Thanks for listening.
