Larger screwdrivers, but shorter overall length?

All this talk about screwdrivers actually made me remember something. Usually when I need a No. 3 or 4 Phillips or larger slotted screwdriver, I don't need an excessively long one.

Is there any source for shorter versions of larger size screwdrivers? I am aware of that one Snap on used to make, and I have one of the short Husky ones. Are there any others? I wish I could find a short No. 3 Phillips.

I've got a Craftsman 5/16 slotted that's only 6" total.

Yeah, good tool. Full size handle, short blade. I grab that one a lot for some reason.

A friend had one which I think was a 3/8 short with a full size craftsman handle. Best screwdriver for Dzus fasteners I have used. Would not slip out and scratch paint on aircraft. I think it was pretty old and I have never seen another one.

That's what I'm talking about! I can't find anything like it though, so I may have to make one.

Have you considered using socket drivers?

I use mine a lot, too.
Very handy size.

x3. Mine is the goofy orange that they sold back in the 90s though. I use it every time I need a large flat driver for something other than prying.

Anybody know if Craftsman made Phillips drivers like this?

I have that craftsman shorty too, it is sooo handy, I may just take one of my extra phillips #3's and cut it down and re-mount it so I have a match. Never seen the phillips version for sale and not sure where I picked up the flat one but you could probably make your own too if you can't find one...

Got a picture? I love the orange handle drivers!

I'd like to see someone make a full set of these P0-3 & a few flats. For the most part though, a ratchet & bit driver will easily fit the length clearance and all but a few times fit the swing clearance where I can think these would be really necessary.

But I still want a set.

I like this idea. I use the Craftsman big handle/short stank often and I've wished for other sizes, especially Phillips or JIS.

I use my old Four-in-One screwdrivers often just 'cause they're short for the handle size.

As for a shorter #3 phillips, if you get from CK23 reversible kit from Xcelite, the RB3 blade has shafts around 3".

In addition, Wilde makes a 3/8"x5" #S 46/CS square shaft slotted, its awesome.

Felo makes a 1/2"x8" #0715732362, which I need to order myself.

But I sure would love a stubby PH3, 3/8" and 1/2" with full size handles. Heck, even a 1/2"x4" or PH3x4" would be sweet. Who can do this for us? Enderes? Grace?

Just found this bit kit:

I've been eying these:

I also really like those Pratt and Reeds. The handles are nice, they seem to be the same as the mastercrafts. Great drivers especially considering the price.

One other option is to use a ratcheting driver handle with the short shank and any bit you like...

I've got the Armstrong version of the 1/4" from HJE. Its great.
