So I am having some problems when trying to guide people where to park in between my lift posts. I wanted to get this, but I want it to display a line instead of a dot. Might anyone have some suggestions how to accomplish this?

I am not sure how much lasers help but painting some guide lines on the floor works to get started square. I have some slash marks for how far forward the wheels can go and swing the arm in.

I was considering that, but I think the line down the center on the hood will be more helpful for some. I am reading that it might just take some kind of cylinder at the lens to turn it into a line...no idea.

I like that. Just like a circular saw! Good idea.

I know a lift company already has this, but just trying to keep it on the cheap side. I like how this product will shut off after 90 seconds too. I have been looking at plug in type lasers, but how to get the power to the laser when needing to align a vehicle and shutting it off has me a bit disheveled. I have the liftmaster jack shaft openers with the wireless lights...I was thinking that maybe I could tie the laser into that, but once again I am lost when it comes to powering a laser.

Also, the big problem I have is that I have my lift in a wide configuration...which it is showing that I need some of the vehicles exactly the same distance from both posts to get the pads on the points. I recently had a friend pull his SUV in and he was two inches off to the left, tried to get him to the right and he was more off that way, then again to the left...it was brutal.

I was considering that, but the Ceilings are 12' and I don't think those would show a visible line...not sure though, the only one I had broke.

I could, but unfortunately I sometimes have the same problem.

This looks like it might work.

I would just need to figure out how to convert the battery power to wire it directly to the light.

Well if I could do that then I will just get "the clapper" and plug that into the ceiling outlet with this plugged into that. I will do some research on the converter, last thing I need is this to start a fire.

You should easily be able to do it. Figure out the input voltage and then get a power supply that is near the same spec, listing says it uses 4AA batteries so look to see if they're in parallel or series, my guess is they're 2 sets of 2 batteries in parallel(So 3v). Make sure input voltage is correct also, I've seen two-pronged(like you'd see in a 120v unpolarized plug) 220v power supplies...this would obviously give you half the DC output. You probably have one that will work and didn't realize, an old phone cell phone power supply might work...they're normally 5v-7v, 500mA-1000mA. An old router power supply should work also, they're normally 12V and about 1000mA.

This is why you should never throw power supplies away!

Went a different route...
eBay laser and a remote operate switch. Here's what I got.

I like the laser idea. I used to have the pad with bumpstops and in the winter (like -40) the garage got so cold the glue didn't hold. It pulled the pad slightly off when I went to work.

Coming back I parked in the spot, closed the garage door and scrrreeeech the garage door scratched my rear bumper really deep. $180 fee when I returned the lease ^|™©°÷•÷|π¥

Downside is you have to be pretty careful of reflections...but it is a pretty cool light show with some smoke in there.
