Lawn mower storage ideas?

So one item I seem to need on a regular basis is a regular push mower. I have a messily two (compact) car garage. My craftsman 22" mower takes up as much space as a motorcycle and a half. I'd love to figure out some way to store it and not take up valuable space.

The back yard isn't an option according to the wife.

Ideas?

I put mine in a rubbermaid cabinet behind the garage.

The cabinet is about 2 ft deep and 4 ft wide and high. The front has 2 doors, and the lid lifts up.

The mower just barely fits in crosswise. I have to loosen the upper part of the mower handle to get it to fit.

Keeps it dry, and out of the garage.

Just like rharman above ^^^

You could use a bicycle lift to raise it out of the way. Here's one style http://www.harborfreight.com/bicycle-lift-95803.html.

I was thinking something along the same lines. I just made my own bike lifts and after looking at that kit. The pulleys in that kit are plastic and the rope is the equivalent to shoe string. HF sells metal pulleys on their own I would go with those and some paracord or some other cheap rope.

My idea is to stick the mower on a reinforced plywood square strap it down and mount eye bolts at each of the four corners of the board. Run rope through each eye hole and then up to a single ring and do the rest like this picture.

if you can't fold the handles, perhaps you can convert the handles to a set that does fold so you can take advantage of small shed idea.

That's what I do - my shed is 3 ft deep - hardly takes up any space.

If it the kind that came in a small box with handles that fold in the middle then you can fold the handles down to where they almost touch the ground.
If so, drain the gas and oil, fold the handles all the way down, and hang it on the wall.

The handles do fold but it still takes up valuable floor space. I like the hoist idea but the results of a failure would be pretty bad. As far as mini sheds, HOA no-no unfortunately.

I need one of those reel types that Keanu almost eats in Point Break. I could hang that on a wall.

i park the riding mower in front of the garage during the time it gets used.
it gets parked uncovered around in back of the garage during the winter.

The best thing you can do is to get it out of the garage. As many others have said. Figure out some sort of protection for it and store it out of the garage...you'll never look back! The small rubbermaid shed is perfect for such a thing. HOA or not, I'm sure you could stick it somewhere outside the garage that is inconspicuous to "them" and pleasing to the eye of "her". Put as much garden stuff in it as you can and then clean up the garage. You'll feel like you accomplished something and it's a great excuse for the wife.

plus it has been doing this with the maine winters.

one of those rmaid sheds. I'd get it out of the garage. That said i got so sick of trying to find a place to put all the yard **** (no shed here) and with 2 kids i said why the hell and i spending what little free time i have on this and i got a service...but mowing in florida summer humidity gets kinda old =)

When i did have it i folded the handles and put it under a work bench. At some point i'll do my own again but there will be a shed no hoa where i'm at. With only a 2 car the number one thing that drives me nuts is staring at expensive space populated with yard **** (but i'm not a yard guy).

If hoa, Maybe you have a deck you can conceal it under?

Under the back of your hot rod...

Find a way to hang it on the wall or ceiling. Or build a garden shed/box to store some of that kind of thing.

I have an electric one. With that you can hang it vertically on the walls if you'd like. I do not but I have thought about it.

I have a similar situation and plan on making a simple, elevated platform to wheel my front-throw mower onto and the rotary mower will slide under the platform. Two mowers for the footprint of one. Sorry no pictures, as I havn't made it yet. But it's going to be a 2' X2' plywood platform elevated about 20" off the ground with 2X4 legs. The ramp to wheel the mower up will be hinged to the edge and once the mower is up, I'll raise up the ramp and latch (bungee cord or rope tie) it to the mower's handle.
I promise- a picture once I finish making it!
