I can see a permit for outside of the house, but if you want to add a wall, or finish off a basement, I feel it's no ones damn business.
I understand inspections, but no the permits. When I started my garage, I read through the paperwork and as long as the structure was more than 25' from the house, I didn't need a permit. While the footers were being dug, I had to run to Lowes. When I got back, there was a guy standing there with a clipboard. He ask me where my permit was. I told him that I'm more than 25' away, so I didn't need a building permit. He tells me that I am correct on that, but I need a "Township Permit". Well WTF!!!! Then he tells me he just happens to have all the proper paperwork in his truck. Well go figure.

He fills out a few things, has me sign it, and I'm out $140.
About a month later, I'm finishing up the garage, and decide i need a driveway to the garage. A County Engineer truck pulls up. Where's your permit. I show it to him that it is taped in the window. He then tells me that what I have is a Township Permit. Soooo

Then he ask....where's your driveway permit? What the hell? I needed a permit to put a driveway in because I had to put a culvert pipe under the drive.
Why can't people tell you all of this **** up front. When I went to get a building permit and show the County Engineering office my plans and they tell me I don't need a building permit, why the hell didn't they tell me that I needed a Township permit and a driveway permit. Bastages!!!!
