Always align, tack, recheck alignment, tack, recheck..

Then weld in appropriate various spots...

Then run the longer beads...

Without overdoing any area to pull your work out of alignment.

If you're half-serious at all about learning how to weld the RIGHT way and why (not just the 'tips & tricks!' :S) take classes at a school. There's no shortcut to becoming a good welder. Why blunder and bumble around on your own for ages, and then not even know if you're doing it right?? If you have a decent instructor, he'll let you know what you're doing right or wrong and how to correct it before it becomes a bad habit.
