Here is my answer......

After noticing Adam's original holster, in an older MythBusters episode, (maybe 2006-2007). I paused the DVR to try and figure out what was reflecting light and hanging off of his belt.

Here is what I built, out of some scrap Diamond plate aluminum.

It is beat up and worn, but has been a good addition...

Nice. I watched the video and when he started to hammer out the belt loop I was yelling at the monitor telling him he still needs to still bend the sides in. Owell I guess he couldnt hear me.

The only mod I would make is using a jostle for a belt loop and double flush rivet it on. You could even cut the back and make a spring clip to keep the leather man even more tight.

The zoomed in pics, might make it appear to be loose, but it isn't. I can do some short sprints, without it coming loose.

The sides aren't parallel, it is kinda like a cone. And then there is some tight points at the bottom, to lock it in.

After 7 years of service....it has never fallen out.

I've built several horizontal-carry Leatherman holsters out of Kydex. It's a 100% folded design, no fasteners or drilling required. It doesn't wear the pants, belt, or tool. I usually get 3-4 years out of them before they start to crack. Never had the tool come loose accidentally, either. I can take pictures if there's interest.

Mine came in a leather holster complete with a holder that take standard screwdriver bits and a selection of bits.

As requested: Nothing fancy, but it works amazingly well.

Click for the album. You can see the folded rear corner which guarantees that the tool can't get pushed through the back. You can also see that the belt-grip is bent to conform with my side. I wear a Wilderness Instructor's belt, 1.75" width, with a Kydex reinforcer inside (the CSM model).

I basically use a heat gun and a home-made press (yoga mat on 2x12) to form the kydex, then wrap it around an old belt with several layers of cloth wrapped around it (so the belt grip isn't too tight). There's a specific order to the folds, but it's pretty obvious once you start doing it.

Thanks. It's simple, non-metallic, and does the job. I can't stand vertical-carry because your own body is usually in the way of the tool. Horizontal works better for me. The only issue is if I misjudge the distance between me and a doorframe, the LT will take a chunk out of the trim... much to my annoyance with my basement door.

Thanks for the pics. The aluminum holster looks good, but I think they kydex one would work better for me.

One I made a few months ago.

What keeps these things from falling out? My last multi tool fell out someplace at work. I'd like to carry a leatherman, but they're to valuable to take the chance. I'm constantly crawling over, or under, or through tight spaces. What do you guys do about that?

I made a kydex sheath for my Leatherman because I lost a Charge Ti in the snow when it slipped out under the cover of a closed nylon Leatherman sheath.

The kydex is a tight fit, and done right, the tool "snaps" in.
My kydex sheath (vertical carry, upside down, so gravity was pulling the tool out), was incredibly comfortable, and held the Leatherman quite tightly. Until it was broken in, I had to be careful not to pants myself pulling the tool out. It lasted around 2 years, when it started to crack at the opening. Still holds just fine, but the sharp cracks are an issue, so I've gone back to a pocket clip and cheap Wingman until I can find the time to make a new one.

BTW, if you go with kydex, I strongly suggest you use a Tek-lok belt loop, and not make your own. That was the BEST feature of my diy sheath.

See, I don't like the tec-lok clips at all. They require drilling the kydex, and add to the cost considerably. But, to each their own... what advantage do you see over a folded design like mine? I'm genuinely curious, as the only tec-lok sheath I've used is the one from my CRKT ABC dive knife.

Your folded design is great! I really dislike the super wide ones that have rivets all up the sides.

The Mini Tek-Lok is the same width as the Leatherman wrapped in Kydex (the full size Tek-lok is huge in comparison). $12 isn't that awful, and it lets me easily put the Leatherman on, or take it off, without having to unstring all the other things on my belt. Kydex simply does not have the strength to clip onto a belt, and needs to be made into a closed loop to work. Even then, for me, the loops start to crack and tear before everything else, and the Tek-lok is pretty bulletproof. The kydex loop would sit about 1/8" closer, but I've found that to not be an issue.

Good points all around. Right about the time that I get cracks at the front (from slamming into stuff with the Leatherman), the sheath is starting to get tired and a little looser than I'd like. For less than $10, a sheath that lasts 3-4 years doesn't owe me anything. However, if I used a Tek-Lok, I could reuse it... Maybe I'll have to experiment some more.
