Hello Snapmom
I'm not an electrician, but... my sister's dance studio has those old fluorescent fixtures on the ceiling, and as each one dies (usually a failing ballast), I pull them down and buy a "plug and play" LED fixture.
Last one was about $80 bucks at Home Depot - 48 inch unit. "Strip light" I believe they called it - not even a "bulb" per se - looks like a piece of sparkly tape.

She loved it. Girls love it.

I will never again replace or attempt to repair a fluorescent fixture - the LED is too easy, way brighter, and they last forever.

I agree with rlitman. The ballast was removed and the fixture looks to be wired for double ended LED ballast bypass tubes. All the Load (hot) wires are shown going to the tombstones on the left and all the Neutral wires are shown going to the tombstones on the right.

You can buy good quality ballast bypass tubes for about $8.00 each. You would need 4 for that fixture, so about $32.00 for all four. You can get Halco brand LED ballast bypass tubes at Home Depot. A lot of people on here have mentioned that they are a good quality LED tube manufacturer and they recommend that brand as an inexpensive option. I bought a box of 10 of them a few years ago to retro fit 5 old fluorescent 4 foot two tube fixtures in my garage and they were worth every cent!!

Here are the Halco brand I bought from Home Depot. These are 5000k in color and they are sold in a box of 10 for $76.00.

Dont get clear. Get frosted instead.

The Halco LED tubes are frosted thankfully! They give off a really nice light with no strange shadows or other things. I remember you had suggested them a few years ago when I asked if anyone had any recommendations for a good, mid-level cost replacement ballast bypass LED tube bulb. That is why I bought them!

I have some two tube LED fixtures that I bought at Sams Club and they have clear tubes. They not only are hard on your eyes if you look directly at them, but they give off a strange light pattern the farther away from directly underneath of them you get. That is because with clear lenses you can see each individual LED in the strip.

That, and if I am writing on a piece of paper with a pencil the clear tubed fixtures put a shine on the pencil lead making it almost impossible to read the writing. This never happened with any of my old fluorescent fixtures or the Halco LED tubes.

And when the LED's **** out you replace the entire fixture, and they do not last forever.
