FordExec, for now, I'm going to just stick with the graphite I have mixed up, I think it'll be ok. I imagine it would be difficult to color match something as reflective as that surface and have it look right later, as the color would seem to change based on what it might be reflecting.
I did however get the doors primed, and got the graphite on one side and the black on the frames on the other side. I was going to finish them up today but I ran out of painters tape and have to go to work in a little bit, so I guess I'll have to finish tomorrow. A few days to really dry, and then on to hinges and pulls, and I'll be pretty much done.

Well, other than doing the lazy susan and 1 more door pull, the workbench/cabinets are done!
The third pic came out a little blurry, I'll have to go get another, but here's what it looks like now:

I'm out of excuses now, I'd better get the hot rod put back together and give this toybox a serious bath lol.

Things are coming along very nicely in there, V-10. Looks like you're on the home stretch. Great job. I really like the checkered flag stripe around the garage, but I'm a bit partial to those

I would be interested in hearing your comments on the coin-pattern worksurface rubber mats. What's the cost compared to other coverings? How easy is it to wipe clean? Do you think it can it be replaced easily as time goes by or a patch gets really damaged? Does it "grip" the object you're working on pretty good or does it just slide? I know you haven't had it installed that long, but any insight would be appreciated.

I would like to do at least a portion of my bench with a rubber surface for the jobs like working on cylinder heads, bike parts, and such. I really like the coined pattern as opposed to some of the others out there. I'm guess any pattern will hide the small nicks that occur over time and keep it looking reasonable good as the years go on.

The rubber mat, lets see what I can say. It does hide imperfections very well. I have one spot that while laying on the concrete for the last 3 years got a little chewed up by some fluids that ran down behind something I had setting on it. Looks like it pitted it a little bit, but unless you're looking for it, you can't find it.
It's very easy to clean. Liquids just wipe right up, and anything else I just use my little shop brush and brush it right off, static cling is no problem with it.
It was a little slippery at first because after I glued it down and washed it with soap and water, I shined it up with a little tire shine. It's not as bad now as day 1, but there's definately less friction than say a particle board top. Probably the same as a clearcoated butcher block surface or new hardboard finish.
As far as ease of replacement, I put it down with contact cement, so if I want to change it out now, I'll have to get myself a sharp scraper to pull it up.
I don't feel that the cost was all that bad. I might have paid $350 for the mat (shipping included), but that gave me enough for the entire top, liners for 5 drawers, and all the rest I put on the ground as you see in the last pics. I doubt I threw away more than 3 cubic feet.
You could probably glue a few inches right against the wall for a liquids backsplash pretty easily.

I'm so stoked that I found this thread! I am in the planning stages of my 30x36 garage, hoping to break ground early May.

This is so close to what I have planned, it's scary. One main difference is 12' walls and I plan to have my man door(s) on the same side as the small storage shed door.

This is pretty much the exact plan I have though... right down to the hoist. I love it. It's been so good to be able to give my wife a visual of what I'm building.

I would love to o the epoxy floors, but I just don't think they would hold up to welding, cutting, etc. that will happen in here. I don't want to put down drop cloths every time I weld, ya know.

I love seeing what you have done! Beautiful work!

thanks... lots of work into her to get over 700 at the wheels... thats a hard hump to break. I lived in Midland after college, might have to make it down for a Loons game and we can go for a cruise when I get back to the Mitten.

I wish I had the time/energy/skills to make all those units. It is very similar to what I am hoping to achieve, except I am using bought units which although they will look nice will not be as strong as yours, and I will not get anywhere near the same satisfaction from using them as you will!

Every task I've done on this garage has been a lot of fun. A little scary sometimes a the start, but nothing a little pre-planning doesn't take the sting out of.

Hopefully I can muster a little energy soon to get that TA put back together soon. I've been on mandatory overtime since I finished those cabinets back in January. I'm finally back to a "normal" shift work schedule now lol. 144 hours every two weeks for 2 months can burn a person out lol. As soon as we can get everything labeled/boxed/moved for the big rummage sale in early May, I'll make sure the last of the painting is done, and spit-shine it all up for some good pics.

I finally had a 4L80E with transbrake put together for it. If this engine ever eats itself, I'd considered an iron block with F1 Procharger setup. But that'd probably just be trading one set of headaches for another.

Just throwing in a quick update with some pics.

I finally managed to get the lazy susan set up in the corner of the workbench. Only downside, I bought 2 8' sections of aluminum banding, and the perimeter apparently wound up being 8'2" lol.

I also picked up a small vise, and an aluminum plate that will fit exactly on my reloading accessory plate, so I can store it when I don't need it. Still gotta drill the holes so pics aren't up yet.

Just get a short length of that aluminum and put a 90 bend in it as shown, and it will look like you were just reinforcing the corners Plus it will cover up those sharp edges. (I'm sure you thought of it already)



Great use of space in that otherwise hard-to-reach corner!

Thanks for the comments guys, sorry about the delayed response. Hunting season and all The lift was from Greg Smith Equipment. The epoxy was Epoxy-Coat brand. I originally planned on a lighter blue than what I put down, but other than that, I'm a pretty happy camper.

Hey all
The epoxy is holding up great. I have one or two little chips where I dropped something that landed point down, but only I can see where they're at, they're pretty small. Other than that, all is good with it
The lines were very easy to tape, really. I just used regular duct tape and pressed it down hard after it was where I wanted it to make sure there were no "no-contact" spots where the epoxy could creep under. Then I just taped some painters paper down over the duct tape with regular painters tape. Just so I couldn't overshoot the duct tape with the squeegie/roller. I did one color, waited about 2 or 3 days, and did the other. I'm very happy with the result

Pictures can be decieving lol. I have my Trans Am's motor/******/engine compartment completely disassembled right now (as usual) for fabbing up a new 91mm front mount turbo system for it. I have **** EVERYWHERE now.
