Sweet garage...I learned more from your thread about how these are built than from any other source. As far as the ijit contractors go, make 'em wait at least a month for that final check-sorry; cheque ! Nah, better let them sweat for 45 days...90 days ! They dissed you pretty bad after all.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your problems, but the contractor has done a quality job. Delays are normal. Point it out to all my friends, that if the construction workers were "nice" and "on-time" they would be working for corporate and making twice the money for half the work. Truly amazed at how fast everything has happened. Big question is are you going to lower yourself to their level? Yes do NOT pay until finished . . . JMHO

Well called the door company on Monday as my salesman seems to not return calls, and I got hit with the apologies again. He said they ran into some vehicle issues and are behind, is going to check the schedule and get back to me.

Called a couple hours later and said the door will be delivered Thursday and installed Friday. Door came yesterday but the guys delivering drove off the side of the very obvious swail. Went to the highway and flagged someone down to tow them out.

A couple hours later I heard some noise from the back and thought WOW install guy a day early...no just the passage door window installers doing their thing....at least it is progress!

Will see if this trend continues and the OH door installer shows today!!

Thanks for the kind comments! Glad I can get in and actually do MY work in there!!

We are planning a shop warming/New Years party out there so I went and picked up one of these;

MH55FAV.jpg

* Requires a 110v Connection
* CSA certified
* Heats approximately 1250 sq. feet
* Runs up to 14 hours on 20-lb tank (low setting)
* High temperature limit switch
* Continuous ignition
* 10' hose and regulator included

Fired it up today, outside temp was -16C/3F, had it running only 1/2 an hour and could take off my jacket. Over an extended period of time you have to crack something open for fresh air, but even though a little undersized, it worked very well.

Will have to use this for the rest of this year as the power won't be run to the building until spring. But the mezzanine build will start as soon as the party is over :rocker:

Very nice looking build! Now the big question how long you going to make them wait? In this time of communication it never fails to amaze me that somebody cant have enough common sense to pull out there cell phone and let you know what is going on!

Well more to the saga..

I didn't mention it earlier in the thread, but I was unhappy when they installed the window in the passage door. Usually they are 5" from the top of the door, this one is only 2". I didn't notice it the day they were doing it at first, but wondered why when they were installing it they had to use a reciprocating saw to cut through the top left hand corner of the door, and what they were removing looked structural.

Contacted the salesman and he contacted the installer who admitted to the error. They said they will replace the door, but they are low on stock (not out, but low) and asked if I would wait up to two months for the new shipment to come in. Unfortunately payment has been made in full so I can't use this as leverage.

When I stated I thought this was unacceptable stating you would think a company would strive to make their paid in full customers happy, or work on a first come first served basis rather than saving stock for any up and coming orders, and with all the delays for the overhead door, lack of communication on their behalf regarding install appointments, missed appointments without notification, and errors in information being passed to the builders that would have cost Olympic both time and money if they weren't caught by me, I believe I am more than just in expecting my building finished to my satisfaction sooner rather than later.

His reply was that I have a building that is closed up and if he gives me one of these doors that will mean his next customer will have an open wall till he receives the next shipment and just as I didn’t appreciate the opening in my building for a month he is doing what he thinks is best for all parties. He’d rather have me with a window 3” too high than a building with a hole in it, and wouldn’t I do the same?

Am I being unjust in my thinking?

I guess I can understand his thinking, but I know that doesn't make you feel any better given all the frustration you have had to endure. No, you're not being "unjust". You're just tired of all the BS you had to go through, and you want things right. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, this will soon all be behind you and you'll be enjoying one fantastic garage!

EDIT: After walking away and thinking about what I wrote, I think you should tell the salesman that you want his promise to replace the door in writing. A couple of months is more than long enough for this chooch to "forget" the verbal promise he made.

Great looking garage.

I don't agree with some of the comments on delays and the other excuses given by contractors. Although SOME builders choose to chalk this up as common practice....There are many that are punctual and will call ahead if they need to cancel or won't be able to make a scheduled appmt. Just plain ignorant if you ask me.

Great looking shop. Just read whole thread and just a few comments. I to ran conduit in my shop and am glad I did as I have changed it several times. 1 question I had is I did not see no drain when you built? Was that a option or did you not want one. I live in wi and it comes in handy during winter when cars come in and snow and ice melts off. And last thing, what happened to the customer is right? I would not put up with it. Tell that salesman you want the correct door that you paid for, tell him he can have that one to put it next guys to seal that build up til more come in. Well anyways great build so far and good luck.

I thought about putting a drain in, but when talking to a couple of neighbors they said they inquired about it, but it was a hassle...thinking it is due to being just within town limits.

I am planning to only use it as a shop, working on my special interest vehicles...if I do need to get a daily driver in, there is a car wash about a mile away, if mobile I could clean them up first prior to moving them in, and anything that does hit the floor should evaporate with the in floor heat.

I hope it all works as planned, all I know is it will be better than working on the gravel driveway! LOL

At first the salesman said it would be 8 weeks before the door would be in, and would have to make an appointment at that time to install, when I voiced my disapproval he changed it to the shipment was sent in earlier than expected and I should have it in 4 weeks....

Well I didn't reply and his last email to me was Jan 27th...I don't know what calendar he is going by but to date, no reply from him and no new door and no indication of when it is coming....and we are rounding the original 8 weeks...

Tell the salesmen you will give him your current door to use on a placeholder for someone else's door. That way no one will have to go with a hole in their building, and you get your door, their mistake not yours.

That was exactly my thought....Have them bring you out a correct door and let the next victim deal with waiting. I think you have been more than accommodating. I'd be taking that door and putting it through their front door!
