Finally underway!!

The pad is 30 X 45 with a 16" X 16" thickened edge, 1 1/2" foam under, on the sides of and 4' past the pad, 10" of compacted 3/4 down. In floor heat is also being installed.

The shop is going to be 30 X 45 with 16' ceilings and a 16'W x 14'T O.H.D. Steel inside and out.

Too early for that even way up north. End of November usually. We don't want to rush that white stuff yet.

Temps are ranging from 30 to 52 F or -1 to 11 C, have insulated tarps if need be.

So waht is thei 70 yrd of 3/4 stuff? I thought that you were getting ready to pour footings or a monolithic slab

Poly, 1 1/2" foam, re bar and forms are tomorrow...in floor heat (PEX) is Wednesday and pour is Thursday. The 70 yards of 3/4 down is for a 10" base.

It looks like crushed stone. How deep is that black soil in your area?

Yes crushed limestone. We are in farming country so the black soil goes down fairly far, then it usually hits clay.

The area we are digging is an old farm road, the first 6" were as hard as a rock, both skid steers had issues with breaking the surface, when they did, it peeled off like asphalt. Even the soil where we dug down for the 16 X 16 thickened edge is rock hard.

Well after 3 days of rain and wind advisories and in some areas of my province heavy flooding everything is back on its way. Ground is not frozen, and we have postponed the pour until next week to give the pad area a few days to dry out. It is forecast to be 30 - 50 F or 0 - 10 C next week, and after the pour the pad will be covered with insulated tarps to help with curing.

The building is scheduled to start Nov 24, but they can build in any weather (may not be as happy about it, but it can be done...LOL)

Will be working on the car in my avatar as well as a few others...my wife has a 1983 Cutlass T Top car with a 355 in it that we are installing a 700R 4 speed and 373 posi, and I am also building a 1949 Chevy 3100 truck which I am putting on a S10 4X4 chassis for a year round vehicle.

Foam, vapor barrier and re bar done....PEX being installed tomorrow as well as inspection, then pouring on Monday!

Great looking form work. One thing I dont understand is why you aren't using rebar chairs to support the rebar.

When I was doing flat work we used concrete brick as chairs. It looks real good and will be a nice size shop.

banzaitoyota as Motown 454 said...had the option to go either way, but after talking to a few concrete guys, this is the way they usually support the re bar. Cut old concrete, bricks, sidewalk blocks....

PEX is in, inspection passed with flying colors, ready for pouring Monday..

My pressure in the lines has dropped from 50 psi on Friday to 42 psi this morning, I am not sure if I should be concerned with this, or if it is due to temperature fluctuations from day to night.....

Looks like I couldn't ask for better concrete pouring weather for this time of year, as long as environment Canada is right (which I know 99% of the time they aren't)

Talked to the local heating contractors and they said it was due to temperature fluctuations...said they would only worry if it was at 0 psi.

Notice hers is further along, shiny and new looking!??! Happy wife, happy life!

Sweeeet! I dont know if your going to be doing the framing yourslef or not but if you do you'll be gald you have the pad poured first. It makes it so much easier working on a nice flat surface.

Fat Fender- looks good, what kind of heater are you using with the Pex install? I have a 24X40 shop and hopefully next week will be getting a friend to help me hook up the heaater. I found a Hydro Shark 3 boiler ( 9.6 kw) that should do my space. As I am just east of Brandon ,Man. looked out and 4 inches of snow fell overnight. Hope you avoided it!!!!

Yes my poor little pump...trying to decide what globe to put on it to use as a yard light.

last inspected in '87...guess it was still in use then?
