Very nice. I’m still hoping to find the half speeder at a reasonable price.

Picked up an oddball wrench yesterday.

S-7551, no branding.

I messaged Snapmom who described it as Studebaker, 1930ish.

It looks like my later brake bleeder wrench. This is the only picture that I could find and it doesn’t show the part number. IMG_1823.jpeg

Any aviation nerds out there? My neighbor just downsized to a condo and let me have everything he wouldn't have space or a need for. Lucky for me, his father was an A&P mechanic for National Airlines in Tampa and I brought home some seriously great tools. I haven't had the chance to get everything cleaned and organized, but I'll probably do that this weekend and will post an update when the tools are all sorted. The two Craftsman boxes are full and the larger box was Mr. Davis' flight line & travelling toolbox, which includes his notebook full of tech data for the 727 and DC-8.

Enjoy the sneak peek!

In post 4872 I shared the FB-50 box I recently acquired. It was was missing the tray and the original handle and the hasp was different as well. I love to see the meticulously restored boxes on this forum but somehow I didn't feel like that type of restore was right for this one. So, I decided to leave the box as it is and make a tray using materials at hand (i.e., that I've been hoarding for years ;) pine, oak, masonite) in the manner of a period appropriate farmer-fix. A few hours of work this morning and this is what I came up with.

I was making one last pass through the Great Oregon Steam up swap meet yesterday and while talking to one vendor spotted this set at the back of his booth. I asked him about it and he told me he started out asking $800 but had it marked down as he really needed to sell it. I offered $250 and he took it... There was a very similar set, same layout but a few less tools, at a coastal antique mall a few months ago they had priced much higher. It was gone a few weeks ago when I was last there.

I just started researching these super service sets and I think the layout on this one makes it the 25' set. No brass tag or decal on it that I can see evidence of. Here are a few pics of the set and some of the tool markings. The larger 5/8 sockets are marked differently than others so I'm not sure they were originally all together. Most of the drive tools have faint marks, and there is some light rust, so I had to look closely to find them. I'm sure I'm missing a couple extensions and may have a couple newer tools in the set. Thanks for any insights. A few pics. Ed.

Thank you for the link TRZ. I did look over that site earlier and that's where I came up with the estimated date of 25'. I'll study it a little closer now. Ed.
could be 24 or 25. the 1/2 ext is the wrong era. so it needs both 1/2 ext. the V clips on the left, should have a universal and a 1/2 to 5/8 adaptor.
You got a really good deal.
Thank you for the information snapmom. That round bar extension was clearly wrong era and likely just a space filler. I'll keep an eye out for the correct extensions. Also missing the universal and that long sliding T bar doesn't fit so it's probably been added as well. I do believe I have all the sockets and by rearranging them, after my pics, they fit in the shelfs little better. I take it that this box layout came out late 24 into 25? Wasn't completely clear to me from the little I read on the collecting snap on site. I I really appreciate the comments. Ed.

After looking at a few more pictures I did get the drive tools on the socket side to fit a little better. Early catalogs do seem to be a little sparse. I did grab a couple of screen shots from catalog B showing these sets and some of the tools. I also noticed that my flat rat has a hanging hole and OTG's does not. I suppose the set could have come that way or possibly the rat was warranted out. Ed.

I have this one I thought was 24 or earlier because it had no listing for the no. 7 ratchet, which I thought was introduced in 25, but maybe 24?

Those sets always remind me of old folding card tables. That's a terrific find, Ed. Especially from a swap meet. Congrats.
Thanks Lugz. I was surprised to see that set at a swap meet and really fortunate to find the vendor was motivated to sell.

Good pick Ed!!!!!
Thanks Jock. There were a few new vendors there for the 2nd weekend. Also some really nice stuff to sort through. Ed.

My grandfather used to say that, when he looked at his projects, all he saw were the faults. It may be genetic because I often feel the same way. However, I am pretty happy about how this one turned out. In the 2025 Garage Sale Thread (14th Annual) I posted about the second (of two) FB-50 boxes that I recently found. This one was in better (more original) shape than the first but I thought it had been repainted, too. It also had the original handle - minus the leather covering.

To be honest, I thought the box was black. I put it in a tub of hot soapy water and let it soak for several hours - periodically replacing with fresh water/soap as the layers loosened and came off. A soft bristled brush, Dawn mixed with some Gojo and, in the end, it turns out the box - while scratched and missing areas of paint - was the original gray color underneath! Dried it off and worked out a few of the remaining stubborn areas and covered it with some spray satin.

I looked (online, estate sales, thrift shops, etc.) for handles, but I could not find a suitable replacement for the handle - so I did it myself. I have never worked with leather before in my life but, after watching several YouTube videos, I gave it a shot. I really like how this one turned out. Faults, yes, but I think it was worth the effort.

Me too! And I don't see any faults. Honestly, it's much better than the ones I have done, which have nonuniform stitches just begging to be re-done some day. Seriously. I thought it was just @Davefr's work that caused shame. I really need to step up my game. I DO find myself wanting to scuff it up just a little to match the condition of the box, but that's just me and my weird aesthetic.

Found a Snap-On edit: 9/32” drive 3/8” power socket and locking shank together at an estate sale. The shank has a date code but no branding just like other 1/4 bits I’ve found.
