lupinsea,
When you remove the Dura Hooks is the pegboard hole enlarged or damaged in any way ?
Looks like a nice idea.
Nope. No damage.
The Durahooks use a specially made screw with big, broad, coarse threads. Believe it or not but there's no damage when you take out the hook. I've put hooks in, removed them, and reinstalled them in the same holes repeatedly with out any ill effect.
Most of the "hooks" in the Durahook system are rated at around 45 lb. holding power. On one double hook loop I have a very heavy 100 ft power cord in a reel that I hang on it.
I got my hooks from a local hardware store (very surprised they had any) but they are available all over the place on-line from Amazon.com and other retailers. Just type in "durahook" or "triton durahook" and see what there is.
There are also a very wide range of hook types, spring clips, and bin clips available in the Durahook system. One spring clip I especially like is their spray can clip. It lets me keep a number of different spray cans easily at hand (black spray paint for touch-up, brake cleaner, various spray-on lubricants, etc.).
Also, because of the way the Durahooks are attached to the peg board they can be run in 4 different positions, left, right, right-side-up, or upside down. It gives you further flexibility in figuring interesting ways of using them.
I started off with a kit that had a nice assortment of all their different hooks and clips and such. It let me see them in person and experiment with different configurations. From there I ordered more hooks as needed.
The hook system may be a little pricey but it is very very much worth it. I can't tell how much it freak'n bugs me how typical pegboard hooks pop off the pegboard when I go to grab a tool.
Pegboard vs Slatwall
As to a pegboard vs slatwall comparo someone inquried about . . . . Not sure quiet how the two stack up in comparison. I think the pegboard and all the various hook options out there (Durahook being just one, but all the different hook holders and stuff) probably give us significantly more flexibility for hanging hand tools and smaller items. The pegboard is (I think) weaker and only available in up to 1/4" thick sheets and needs good support.
The Slatwall stuff looks like it has larger scale hooks for larger items, shelving, etc. But I haven't used it, nor looked into it closely.
So to me it would depend on what you need it for.
