I finally picked up a TK-550 6-24v tester to match the continuity tester I already had. They threw in the little white Vaco 70308 neon tester too. Good thing it was free, because it doesn't work, lol. I also just noticed that the two testers have the two different handle styles being discussed above (one with the flutes to the end, and one that doesn't).

Just another DUH-4, nothing special. Except it is for me. For one thing, I clearly remember being a kid in the hardware store with my father when he bought it from a counter display.

And, it's the one family tool from my childhood days that survived the wildfire that got the rest of the tools that I had. At the time of the fire, I was doing fieldwork and blissfully unaware of what was happening. I had the Vaco driver in the field with me in my backpack, because the double-headed driver was handy for working with a particular piece of equipment. Pretty cool to still have this old pal.

At some point in the last 15-20 years, they switched the handles from the molded style with the real comfordome, to the extruded style with the sharper flutes. I keep an eye out for all real comfordome handles, especially NOS.

The factory I worked at in the 80's issued Vaco screw drivers to us in Maintenance. They would wear pretty quickly so toss and get a new one a couple times a year.

I found a screw starter today at a sale. Finally one that wasn’t frozen solid. IMG_1374.jpegIMG_1375.jpeg

Never found a pocket screw starter in the wild - ever. Very neat!
Vaco finds from over the weekend - need to find a cap for the screwdriver

I've been known to buy cracked/buggared bit screwdrivers just for the caps to finish a nicer driver that's missing one.

Cleaned Epstein out of their 8mm. We use Southco rotolocks on a lot of our builds and so we’re always in need of a 5/16”-8mm t handle.

I was in El Cerrito, about 10 minutes from home. It is odd that we found so many of the same tools, right down to the same Utica military pliers with the same Taxi number. IMG_7241.png

Four pages and no hex key set yet? I can fix that. Here is their 6 key heavy duty set, #70147. Overall length is 5.25 inches.

It is marked with their 5 digit zip code so it can't be older than 1962.

I looked in all Vaco ITCL catalogs and the only hex key sets were in years 1968 and 1972, but they were 7 key sets and were model number “HK-17”.

Markings on mine:
Vaco Products Co. Chicago, Illinois 60610 Made In U.S.A.
Vaco Alloy Quality No. 70147 Heavy Duty Pocket Hex Key Set 1/4 5/16 1/8 5/32 3/16 7/32

Found this super long 5/16" nutdriver. No VACO - just "Made in USA". But it looks just like a VACO.
18" long shank, nice condition, wish I'd had this tool 10 years ago.
