Let's see the wood shops!

Hey folks,

Not to promote any segregation, but I'd love if there was a place where we could see shops that cater more towards wood work than metal. My own (very modest) garage shop is roughly 90% wood, 10% metal:

Welding equipment is out of frame, but my specialty is cold welds that break apart with finger pressure :)

I do about 40% wood, 30% metal, and the last 30% is the heavy modification of already-made items or the restoration of old ones. I'm looking forward to getting into some welding next year.

The reclaiming of the garage from storage duty has been a long process. Used to be that 60% of the space was for stored ****......I've been on a tear, getting rid of stuff we haven't touched. I just reclaimed another 3 feet...and I'm marching toward 100% shop and 0% stored ****.

What do you do for dust collection? I picked up this HF collector a while back and plan on piping the shop soon.

 nice and organized. If i ever build my dreap shop, i'm going to leave a little section to close off for wood only.

My woodworking shop is in the basement of my house. There is no room in my 1150 sq ft garage for woodworking tools.

Dust Deputy. Works as advertised. Vast majority of sawdust is removed by the cyclone. The shop vac & its filter stays clean so suction stays strong. Before the filter clog up and vacuum would drop off.

Nice photos guys!

Mike, your place looks like it should be in one of Fine Woodworking's "Shop Photo" pieces.

Thanks for the compliments folks, it's all pretty low budget, and we've only been at this house for a year (our first house... you should've seen my shop attempt at our previous place -- apartment carport with a chain wrapped around the table saw). As for the organization, it only looks like that between projects :).

Nice! Glad to have some company here :) I've got a Delta 50-760 also not pictured... Not plumbed yet, though, so I have to cart it around from tool to tool.

That looks great, Mike. Do you have more pictures?

Well if it isn't my own garage hero/primary source of inspiration! Thanks for chiming in -- I have no other proper shop pictures yet as I'm knee deep in a project and shop layout transition. I'm trying to combine elements from your garage design along some elements from this island workshop: http://www.finewoodworking.com/Workshop/WorkshopArticle.aspx?id=23974

Too kind, they'd probably laugh me away since my current primary workbench is a 3/4" melamine atop a set of retired kitchen base cabinets :)

I wouldn't. I worked for a long time with that same setup as one of my primary workbenches. Lots of storage underneath.

It's hard to do much wood work in a "car shop" like mine. Sawdust goes everywhere. And if you think trans fluid is slick on an epoxy floor, I invite you to try fine sawdust sometime! I need to fab up a good dust collector for the table saw.

What works, works. I started with some wood shipping crates and three 2x6s. Got to be glad for what you have LOL
