Hi All - Picked up a 1/2 hp today off CL for $50 and hoping I can get inducted into the club. It works good and is complete except for one eye shield (see attached). Also got the blade sharpener with it. Thanks for all the great info on this thread. Two questions:
1) anyone have the instructions for attaching and using the blade sharpener.
2) anyone have a source for a 7 inch diameter, 1 inch wide wire wheel with 1/2 inch arbor.
Thanks again.
I have been redoing a # 397.19590 1/2-HP industrial rtop. I didn't notice until reassembly tonight that it has 2 different inner wheel guards. Can someone with the same model look and see what the correct inner guards are or give me the part numbers.
Good find & welcome aboard.....

So they came originally with 2 different style inner guards? Wonder what the reasoning was?I have the same grinder, the wheel guards are correct. If you have a spare right side wheel cover, I'd gladly purchase it from you. I've been trying to find one for three years now.![]()

Left side.
Right side.

Thanks TM no need to pull the covers, wheels etc to get the part numbers. From the pictures it looks like mine. Now I guess we'll have to research the big question "why".
I guess I can go ahead with the reassembly.

Harley: nice color choice. how about a couple nice wire wheels or what's the plan?
I'm pretty proud of the light fixture. I spent close to 20 hours polishing it by hand starting with 320 grit all the way through 2000 grit.
.I questioned my sanity a time or two during it. .....lol. ...Holy smokes! It's gorgeous but that would make me.

I want one of those secret decoder electro sonar black box transporter block sucking magnets so I can gather the blocks like you. .... BTW another great finds and roundup. ....[emoji106]So, on the road yesterday from CNY back to SE Michigan, I recalled some one posting a comment about hearing a giant sucking sound from Michigan, then I spotted this at the boarder of NYS and Pennsylvania along Lake Erie eastern shore!

That 3/4 hp round top is amazing, I've never seen one before. What size are the wheels on that?
NVM, I looked it up. 8" wheels, wow. Love that grinder. I would mount that one in my bedroom.
I like your home decorating ideas.![]()
I love you man, no homo...
Oh, sorry - thought you meant Mr. Simpson.

Just gorgeous, even the eye shields glass look intact. ..
Thanks, I got lucky on both these 3/4-HP Blocks. Both sellers held them for me to pick-up with just my 'word' and no $$.
Doc: how does that gorgeous 3/4 commercial block with all the goodies run? nice find BTW
Nice and smooth. I thought it was bolted down, but no. Just real smooth!
That's really nice!
20 hours! Holy ****!
Sweet! Great determination.![]()

Would anyone in this area be willing to buy this grinder and ship me the outer wheel covers?
http://reading.craigslist.org/tls/5121658789.html
And looks like it only has one outer cover. ........You do realize one has the center busted out (and I'd bet the other is cracked at least)
Harely,
Really nice looking Block and those old lamps shine up great. I noticed there are a couple of Vimco lamps on eBay for big bucks ($100+). I found mine for $50 and thought that was a lot.
That flat with the slot on the right-hand wheel cover must be for mounting something. My guess is the drill bit sharpener.
Now put that thing to work and get it dirty again! [emoji106]
All I'm really after is the outer covers. Specifically the one that's in bottom left of the picture. If both covers are there that's a bonus.
Done for now. Still missing one of the work rests, so may just end up fabbing up two new ones. Also, shield glass could stand to be replaced, but I have not found a source for the safety glass. Tried to reuse as many original pieces as possible. New bearings and replaced all the crumbling cloth covered wiring.
TM,
That's the sucking sound! I had to run to garage and make sure my Blocks were still there.
Yeah, I should have warned everyone here when I was returning from CNY.
Kind of early for water spouts, isn't it?
It's not in the picture, but there was a 2nd one to the left forming/collapsing extending about 1/2 way from the cloud to the horizon.
I always thought that took cold air and warm water.
1st one I've seen in person.
Anyway, great job finding those 3/4hp big boys.
Thanks.
What are your plans for them?
Fix 'em up and put them on eBay.
