So what would a 1/2 hp on pedestal in good condition need to be to get a "You ****"?

Considering some folks will pay a $100 for the stand, alone, I think Jacob got a steal. Plus, the commercial designation of the grinder drives some folks to pay more.

Usually I see the stand go for more on their own, for some reason. When a grinder is atop it seems to be the same price (or less).

I've been searching this thread for a couple hours, looking for where someone posted a close paint match to the original colors (397.19580), and I've been out of luck. I did notice that satin aluminum looks like a decent match for the tin. I did notice in the "Craftsman Block motor Bench Grinder - resources" thread that Torqueman posted a picture of a 397.19580 that looked like a close match in the castings, but wasn't able to figure out who's grinder it is. Any help would be appreciated!

Jacob's: that's the best deal I've seen so far in term of cost, condition, model, and stand. WOW WOW WOW. I think you got the #1 Garage Journal "You ****" award so far.

Grinders, grinders, grinders.

This isn't Craftsman Block Grinders.

But I have come across a bunch of grinders with Baldor motors, Kalamazoo motors etc.

All single phase and up to 3/4 HP.

Here's the thing....They are missing all the wheel guards, or wheels, or flanges and some have the cords cut off. All run good. Would make good buffers or even wire wheels.

This guy just threw away the guards and used his own setups. He did a lot of welding and grinding and wire wheeling. These were his spares. And he's selling for under $50 each.

Any interest?

Bill

Take a look at the new thread, bottom of page 2.
The links may take you to what you are looking for.

The one: "[Gray] Dupli-Color Truck & Van Paint T 267 Smoke M " is a reply (w/o pic unfortunately) to the same question I posted on the OWWM site.

sent you a pm

Ted,
I am going to go over there on Saturday and pick out a few of the best ones and I will let you know what I get. I am going to have first choice, and you are #2. When and if you decide on one, I can drop it off on the way to Ludington.

Anyone else want to get in line?

organ - Nice job sniffing this out.

"I'm asking $125.00 but would consider a reasonable offer."

So, like $25 without the home made wooden stand?!?

It's a nice stand, compound angle cuts; but the grinder is worth $25 - $35 in SE MI, Central NY and in between.

Question, why do so many of these grinders show signs of wood grinding?!?

Anyway, here are pictures.

A few more photos:

OK,
I went over to Farmington Hills today and picked all of them up. Got the following:
1 non working Dayton 3/4 HP Model #1Z707X
1 working Dayton 3/4 HP Model #1Z707S
1 working Dayton 3/4 HP Model #1Z707Y
1 working Kalamazoo 1/2 HP Model #2SK7 (Gave to my brother)
1 working Kalamazoo 1/2 HP Model #2SK7
1 working Dayton 3/4 HP Model #4Z909E
1 working Baldor 1/2 HP Model #712

All are missing every part outboard of the main casting/base, motor and shaft.
One big Dayton has a non working switch.
A few have cut off cords (With temporary lamp cords and plugs). I will update list with which ones.
One has the spin direction reversed.
All the Daytons are discontinued model numbers.
These would make fine buffers, but you would need nuts and spacers and flanges (Cheap at Graingers) and buffs.

Not sure which I want to keep yet. They run real smooth, and at least a couple of the Daytons have automatic braking feature. Kalamazoos have built in quench tray and were originally a belt sander and grinder combo.

Photos later.

BCZ:nice score on all the quality $20 grinders. if your shop is big enough you'll never have to change a wheel again unless you wear one out and also have every wheel made.

Feet.....

Just did a check on an alternate source for feet for our block grinders.

I was in Harbor Freight and looked at their box of grommets, thinking at least one size would fit...

No go.

They were all too small or too large in diameter and not thick enough.

So the ones at Lowes are still the go to ones. I picked up a few the other day, and they are substantial and fit great. A little expensive at .96, but what are you going to do.

Note: I ordered mine off the net with store pick up. Stock only showed 3, but when I got there and checked the bin, there was 20. So be sure to do a physical check.

Good to know, thanks. Which dept. were the bins? Tool or electrical?

Drill bit holding attachment:

A funny thing happened on the way to getting the one off CL.

I want and picked up that little grinder motor and stone mounted to a board that my brother picked up for me. You know, the one I posted that had the flat blade sharpening attachment included, and all for $15.

Well, I just went down and looked at the whole thing, and right there, mounted on the board at just the right angle, was a drill sharpening attachment!!!

I'm still getting the other one though.

I picked up a Craftsman 9012 sharpening attachment last week.

I also put in many hours with a wire brush and paint stripper on this guy:

I made two new tool rests out of 3/16" cold-rolled steel and I'm going to re-wire the lamp to have an on-off switch this week. Unless someone has eye shields they are interested in selling, I'll probably go with the Zoro.com replacements. If you have the period correct flat plexiglass ones, PM me.

I think the beat up label with new paint is good combo. Pictures to come! (A little delayed gratification will do this thread some good :D )
