You are trying to get a block grinder OUT of Michigan? Good luck! :lol_hitti

Why is there a USPS truck upside down in the ditch by Torquemans place? :dunno:

You mean you guys don't know? He has a special section of road prepared, and the UPS trucks disappear, and then reappear, and the divers have a blank where that hour went... (they often later complain about "alien probes...) but there is always a heavy box missing... :willy_nil

Not sure what part of the country this is in but I figured someone here would want this 3/ 4hp.
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/tls/4916003762.html

^ I googled it, looks like SoCal but I'm not positive.

I called him and asked if he would ship it.

He is checking on shipping costs.

Great, hopefully you can make a deal on it.

I guess I should have called. I messaged him this morning but no response.

Someone must have bought it, ad is deleted.

Yep, LA and....... GONE!

Wish me luck fellas.

I just received a PayPal request from Edward R. Payment sent.

Picture from CL.

Update.

I have a tracking number and it has left the drop-off point in CA and is making it's way East.

Thanks HB for posting the link to it.

Now Outlaw - none of the female drivers have ever complained of probing. :p

Picked up another 1/3 hp from a auction last night. Runs good. Paid $32. Was not listed in ad. Post more pics after clean up.

I kinda think it's funny that Torqueman has cornered so much of the Block market that members are now searching behind the iron curtain to smuggle block grinders back into the country.

Nice one. That will respond well to some Simple Green or your juice of choice.
:rocker:
I'm getting very found of these plentiful 1/3-HP Blocks. I had over looked them, until my brother mentioned his 2 sons and SIL like the round-top Blocks in his garage.

Well, the hunt was on then. :D

Was that one on the Auctionzip.com auction? I saw one just like it online the other day. Good score!

This grinder was a nice surprise. It was not in the ad or any of the photos. It was just sitting on table in the midst of a bunch other stuff. I almost walked past it.

One of the grinders I sold ended up on a Russian auction site. Odd.

The stump goes international. :rocker:

Was that a dual voltage model?

I recognize that stump! And nice grinder.

That is something, any idea what the exchange rate is?

Now, about those references to the Bermuda Triangle, and the Iron Curtain .... all I know is, my brother Bull and I talked about a winter get away for our families.
imagesqtbnANd9GcTXfVP2HEmNlzFyo2uJs.jpg

So, we talked with his travel-agent neighbors, nice couple with sharp kids.
imagesqtbnANd9GcR9IaBXANT71jgKClPjV.jpg

They recommended a warm sunny spot in this area.

We signed on a group cruse with our families. And while on board met an intriguing Doctor and his wife with familiar faces and voices; but, we couldn't quite place them.
Anyway they were very generous, buying us meals, drinks, treating our kids to gifts, and insisting we listen to their home recordings.

That's the last thing I remember, until we arrived home and realized all my Block grinders were missing!

Ok I will play.

Craigslist find a few weeks back.

1/2 HP Commercial Model 397.19440 with stand. Bought it from son who said he had it for 15 years who got it from his dad who allegedly had it for 25 years. That would mean 1975 or earlier.

Have not taken it off the stand to check for dates.

Smooth bearings, long coast down, all tool rests and shields present, good wheels, and light. Light switch handle actually says Leviton. Quench tray was missing but I bought one from Sears Parts Direct.

paid $75

This site costs me money.

mid-1970's would be about right and you can't complain about the price for a 1/2hp commercial with a stand. Nice grinder!

Balane: can you remember the farthest you've shipped a vise or block grinder?

TM: i think that triangle you drew is supposed to have Detroit in the middle. now i see not only all the blocks are making their way to the TM garage, but now vises too? i think we need a Canadian Mountie to straighten this out and any cartoons of Dudley handy to post.

Larry: nice find on the 1/2 HP commercial with stand and i paid twice for mine and i love it. yes this site will keep you broke, but we smile a lot more.

cheers

When I was dragging this one home I thought for sure it was going to require a full repaint but once I got all the dirt cleaned up I realized it was a super clean gem. No plastic here.

Clipped: that paint is just one of several reasons why we like our block grinders. did you use Simple Green for clean up or do tell how you spiffed it up.

Balane: nice looking 1/2 HP commercial and any chance that one might be a keeper and you can spiff up one you've had in use for years to sell? BTW since you probably use your block grinders as much or more than any of us can you tell us if you've ever had any problems and had to replace any parts other than change wheels?

TM: Maybe you better hire this guy to guard your block stash or find it if it truly is missing now.

That powder coated block sure looks nice. Would look even better if you threw a wire wheel on it for a couple minutes and shined up those fasteners.

Took the thought right out of my head.

Alpine: I have to agree with the guys that wire wheeling the tool rests and maybe deburring wheel will really make that awesome paint job pop. Looks good so far. how does it run or maybe you already told us?

I used LA'S TOTALLY AWESOME from Dollar Tree for the dirt and grime. Ran out of SG but this stuff works and it is cheap. Followed with Turtle Wax bug and tar remover. Cleans the paint and leaves some shine. Eye shields were cleaned with Meguiar's Mirror Glaze plastic cleaner.

I went to look at a Craftsman drill press last night and while looking at the drill press, I spied this beauty on the self in the back of the shed. I knew I had to have it when I saw it. It is dirty but it is in really good condition. It's a model 397.19590 1/2 HP.

DIF, I've had probably four blocks for personal use over the years and the only issues I've ever had with any of them is the old wiring vibrating loose from their solder connection to a spade which is easily fixed within moments. Never once has any of them needed a serious repair to keep running well.

I have no interest in a nice looking grinder for my own use, they only get ugly. I keep the beat up ones for myself, the ones with missing parts, faded labels, cracks, etc.
