Thanks torqueman. A great addition to the flock. I also received notice that a new ( to me ) 3/4hp with HD base was on it's way to me. Pics of that one on arrival.

Wow! A 1hp and a 3/4hp within a week of each other. You must be living right.

We are going to have to start talking in terms of total block horsepower if this keeps up. I'm currently at 1.75. Who has the most TBHP? :)

I'm at 2.58 TBHP.
I would have been at 3.08 TBHP, but I gave up a 1/2hp to another GJ member this afternoon. :dunno:

Here's the 3/4 that's on the way. Complete less the one end cover. I may have to use parts from one of my other ones, or convert to buffer.

I have the same machine and really like it. Mine was missing the right hand tool rest assembly, which is why I put on one of these. Solved that problem!

Picked up a 1 HP Industrial block grinder (257.192190) for $50. Runs and is in pretty good condition, but it is missing a few pieces. The left side is complete, but the right side was set up to run a wet honing knife sharpener, and the owner said he got rid of the many of the parts that belong on the right side. Currently missing the right side cover, the right side outer flange, right side tool rest, right side spark arrestor and the right side clear shield. Quench tray is also missing. Everything else is there though, and the left hand grinding stone appears to have never been used (no grinding dust, just dust from years of sitting around, as well as it has the original wheel on it).

I'm not worried about the quench tray or the right hand cover (as those appear to be still available for order). I'm also planning on making my own eye shields for both the 1HP model I have and the 1/3HP.

Tool rest and spark arrestor will probably have to be fabricated.

What I am missing and am worried about is the flange. I have the inner flange for the right side (thank god! It has a built in spacer and woodruff key, probably would have been nearly impossible to replace). The outer flange is gone. Not sure what to do about that :( Pictures of the flange from the left side posted below.

The honing attachment also seems to be missing a cog that goes in between the metal geared wheel, and the larger black plastic geared wheel. Don't really need the attachment, but if there is a simple solution for a few bucks, might as well get it working again.

Also a photo of my 1/3 horsepower block grinder. It's a 397.19581 that is entirely complete except for the broken eyeshields. Probably needs a good restore to remove the scratches it has.

TM, so you are saying that you have had 5.66 TBHP pass through your lair?

Do you dare share with us how much TBHP you still have on hand?

TM: are you allowed to report the want to be block grinders like Baldor, Milwaukee, Dayton, black and Decker, jet, and the rest or might Mrs TM see that post?

Los: most of us turn a missing guard side of a grinder to a wire or buffing wheel and remove the guard. Good luck

All: 1/2 & 2 1/3 and one of the 1/3 should be on its way north soon. Now if I count the want a be grinders and hand grinders then I'd be typing for a while.

TM: thanks for sharing and maybe when you drive out to visit your son and his family I'll have a jet bench grinder left to send you home with one. Pretty common in our area because I think Jet tools started in this area and were having tools made in Japan.

All: once I line mine up I'll make a list of the few I own. I really need to get them lined up with all the different wheels attached too.

April 25, 2015 - UPDATE

As pictured above, the Block arrived with no wheel guards/covers, eye shields, spark arresters, tool rests, or quench tray.

I asked if the previous owner came across the missing bits 'n pieces, as she went through her dad's estate, to let me know.

I received a hoped for, but unexpected eMail from her about this nearly NIB 3/4-HP ftop Block.

Attached to her eMail was this picture.

Looks like I won't have to cannibalize it's siblings after all.
Update - April 30, 2015

The parts arrived today.

I will put this guy together and put it on the very nice $15.00 CL CM stand.

Check This listing out 1/2 HP On stand

http://delaware.craigslist.org/tls/5003148482.html
.....
1/2 HP Craftsman grinder on heavy duty pedestal. Good operating condition. Missing spark sheilds- make reasonable offer. Craftsman Table grinder - $100
"Missing spark sheilds (sic) ..."

The spark arresters are there, mounted at the bottom of the wheel guards.

The quench tray, eye shields, and maybe the LH tool rest are missing, however.

I'd say forget the HD stand and offer $40 for the Block, but be prepared to go to $60. :D

hehehe, not everyone is a blockhead guru like you. If you look carefully, you can see the LH tool rest. It is positioned (tucked in) nicely below the spark arrester.

Oh, and I think (not sure) the wheel housing is on upside down too, that is why both spark arresters are at the bottom instead of the top. Which make me wonder which way the wheel spin

The wheel guards have slots on top and bottom because they can be mounted on either side of the grinder, the spark arresters however should be mounted at the top. I'm thinking they threw sparks right at you when grinding if mounted on bottom.

Go back a couple of posts and look for the "block resources" link in TourqueMan's signature.

Btw, they should be 6203's and you can decide between shielded versus sealed.

Here's a partial list of the bearings I've fitted to different Blocks.

Use this site to double check yours. ---> http://www.ntnamericas.com/en/

The $12.36 bearings below, are from a local Bearing specialty supplier I use when time is of the essence or I have a technical question. Grainger, McMaster Carr, Amazon, and eBay are just some on-line sources.

Note: Whatever style, sealed or shielded, you choose; be sure to re-fit the felt and spring washers to the arbor/shafts.

That camshaft block is great, hope someone from here ends up with it!!

Bearings should be common auto part store replacements, pull one and verify the part number on them and match them up there. As mentioned, sealed or shielded, shielded will require occasional oiling, sealed are permanent lubed.

6203 being the magic number for a "modern" 397 prefix, which is what the OP was looking for. Btw, it's 70 degrees this weekend in CLE which is prime block grinder stand building weather. :) Check out the "PA Multitool" block grinder thread for updates.

The latest purchase arrived yesterday from Indiana. Brings my total to 10 grinders and 6.3 HP. Guess it's time to weed out the smaller ones and get to work on cleaning up the rest.

MT: I'm pretty sure you have bought the most big blocks here the last month or two. Do you plan on setting the up with different wheels or just passing them on after you spiff them up? If you do have multiple wheels planned please let us know what it is. Cheers

drivesitfar: Looking to keep 3-4 of the HD ones. The rest will probably be sold/traded. Not sure of the exact setup just yet.
