Yes, they come nested from 1" to 1/2; the trick is getting one narrow enough for the blade, even allowing for the clamp/washers.

1977 397.21157 3/4HP Flat Top
Greetings all,
Picked this fellow up today: 1977 3/4HP flat top with factory pedestal. 397.21157 (Canadian obviously), C 3558M1, 5.3amps.
Totally clean, nary a mark. The 8" wheels are basically out-of-the-box having only 1/8 of an inch of wear. Some glazing, but that's nothing. Wee bit of rust near the tray, but that's it. Bearings need to be replaced, but again, that's nothing. Basically it's never been used.
Bought from the original owner who bought in '77, put it in his basement and left it there. Came with the Owner's Manual too, which is nice. Nice deal at US$50.
Other than giving it a bit of a scrub I'm going to use as is!

I have not seen a Canadian made 3/4-HP HD flat top Block posted here until now.
The CM stand is different than other CM stands seen before also.

I was beginning to think the big boys were all in hiding. Then I spotted the round top 3/4-HP with HD base last week and this 1 HP Block, with HD base. It was a new listing, in a town a 15 min ride from me, Plymouth. 
It was too late to call, so I sent a text and received a reply. We agreed on a meeting time the next day (yesterday) and the seller sent me the address of the meeting place.

That's not SE Michigan; that's north central Indiana. 
Oh well, looked like a good day for a drive for a fine big Block!
Oh, the guy had a number of gasoline powered stationary power plants he had restored. 1 was nearly as long as his F150, but weighed several hundred pounds more!
I don't know if I am happy or not that I only brought enough $$ for the grinder.
He had several pieces of shop equipment he was selling; including a really nice Sears branded Columbian 4" or 4.5" vise with swivel base and an equally nice 4.5" or 5" Columbian vise with swivel base, for $40/each.
I don't need more iron.

OK, they are there now...

7 or 8 inch depending on the model, with latter having a 5/8 inch shaft. I have one of each right now that includes a 397.19350 (7 in with 1/2 shaft) and a 397.19450 (8 in with 5/8 shaft).
Making progress with my 397.19450 restoration as the motor covers are stripped and painted. Next up is a bearing swap and the center cover.

Makes me wish I lived in OH.
My 397.19450 is in pieces still I had to re thread the left arbor as it had been messed up by the P.O . I also had to get one of the tool rest support arms welded , now working on a way to either make new rests or find them some where. The rest is just clean up and paint already did bearings and cap. Have you found a reliable place for the 5/8 - 11 left thread fine jam nuts ? Or a good part number for them and maybe even the tool rests?

I am in the same boat with some thread issues on the left arbor along with having one broke tool rest arm. At the least the threading on mine is concentrated under where the wheel sits, but I still would like to run a tap across it. Are you sure on the thread count as I measured 18 on mine with a thread gauge?

Sorry you are right 18 I went out and got thread gauge and the die for the left side I bought and yep 5/8 -18 NF Left hand thread. Guess the memory is not so good lol

The Sears Parts website will often list part names for other equipment types. The Craftsman Commercial 12" lathe has parts list has names for lawn equipment and radial arm saws. The same parts, especially hardware can be used on several machines.

I know that some of you have mentioned trying to find original lamps for your grinders. I stumbled on these lamps the other day, and although not original, they may do well for other task lighting chores.
