Any opinions on this unit and it's worth? It's a bit of a drive for me but if it's worth it I may do it. Thanks for any help
what does he want for it?
How Far round Trip.
What Kind of mileage does you car get.
What will the gas cost.
maybe he'll ship it for you, could be cheaper than the gas, Consider fed Ex ground, and Fastenall if there is one near him and you.

He wants $40. It's a long ways round trip but I'm looking at alternatives. Shipping, friend picking it up and holding it until I pass through the area. I just happen to be shipping a fence charger to someone in his area. I didn't mind the additional hassle but some folks do. If it's a decent unit I'll cross that bridge. All he can say is no.

It's a bare bones model with split phase motor (not as nice as Cap-start), 6-inch wheels, no lamp, no quench tray (no big deal), and needs tlc (which could include bearings in addition to paint). $40 is top price IMHO. I would not go to heroic extremes for that grinder.

Thank you for telling me what I needed to know. I'll wait for something closer to home. In the mean time I'll spend a bit of time here educating myself.

The 1/3 hp is probably the most common of any... at least from what I have seen. $40 isn't bad at all if complete, just a matter of if it's worth it for you. It could be months before something else shows up in your area.

If it was me, I would get it because I might not see another one until next year 'round these parts. Hmmm, I still haven't seen ONE within an hour's drive in the year and a half I've been looking.

You might have better luck buying Lau 38220901. It comes as a bag of 12, but they come in handy if you get the "Block Bug". Google it for availability
Thanks for the lead. Dont know if having 4 Blocks qualifies as Block Bit, but rather than deal with blows, that 12 pack seems the logical choice:thumbup:

The Lowe's picture is wrong, but that IS the correct part #... It's Lowe's item number: 423532

Are you a MyLowe's member? It's free to sign-up and takes like one minute. You can order anything online and get FREE parcel shipping to your door. No minimum purchase... :)

Looking for the rubber feet the grinder sits on. Found the Hillman # 884633 as a suggestion. I have one of these, trying to find more. Looking on Lowes website, the picture shows a REGULAR grommet ? Not the same as the ONE I have. Is the Lowes picture just a general picture of a normal grommet? Will the 884633 be what is needed, as in a smaller top, with a larger bottom ? Local store does not have enough anyway. Nearest store with a bunch of them is 35 miles away. Anybody else stock Hillman stuff ? Thanks.

Yeah, Not Bad if you can get it here cheaply.

Not to boast, never know, But I found one on CL for $10.00.
Don't recall the HP, (1/3 rd. I think) or if it had a light.
Gave it to a neighbor for helping me.

Not to boast,

No, it's all good information. If it were quick and easy I'd just snag that one. But I live close to a lot of population so these things come and go on a regular basis. What's worked real well for me it to do saved searches on Craigslist than forget about it. I was looking to add some nerf bars to my 2006 Dodge Ram on the cheap, like always. I figured my chances of finding what I wanted, consider the age of the truck, were pretty slim. Not two weeks later I get a notice of an ad, exactly what I was looking for, $50. They were still available new but the best price is about $400. I need to be patient. Besides, that Amazons Deals thread it killing me.

So who all has a multitool installed on their block? Found one on CL for a decent price so it should be coming around the end of the week. Guessing I will put it on the 1 hp for best results. It's the 2x36 model.

Keep in mind that you will need to machine an adapter spacer to install onto a block grinder. And you might need a shaft collar to install the drive wheel, unless you are getting an original version MT that came with a tapered shaft lock. Much easier to install the MT onto a conventional grinder. In any case, I would use the most powerful grinder you have as long as it's 3450 rpm.

I doubt it is an original, it looks just like the others posted here.
Mainly curious how they have held up over the years.
I do know it is going to last a lot longer the chinese wen 1x30 it is replacing.

Anyone near Waco, TX interested in this 1/2HP block? Surface rust detracts from the appeal, but all guards & shields appear to be in place.

They're asking $50

Missing the tool rests and quench tray. I would say $50 is pushing it in that condition but maybe he will come down. Oh and the spark blocker things.

There was a 3/4 hp round top for $35 in texas I was trying to get shipped but the guy never responded, and I see it was deleted today. It was beat to hell but complete except for one tool rest. I'll find one eventually.

Had a 1/3 hp one a few months ago, to pretty to use, so I sold it. Seen several on craigslist, from $60 for the 1/3's to $200 for the 1/2's.

Saw this in the background on a CL posting last night.
Looks like a 1/2 hp commercial cap start with 7 in wheels but wanted to run it by the experts here. Not a big fan of the crossover models with the plastic but I have glass shields to put on her if I get it.

Curious if anyone knows if there was a 3/4 hp model in this era? I doubt this would be 3/4 as it has the small on off switch. Anyway, if it is a cap start I will probably swap it with my current split phase flat top as long as the price is right. The guy doesn't even know if he still has it which is odd.

edit - just looked through some catalogs and 73-74 was the changeover period and then 75-76 was the flat top. The 3/4 shows a heavy duty tray and large switch but we all know there are variations on top of the catalog pics.

edit2 - searched the model number and getting all kinds of crazy manufacture dates on these. From '69 and up with the plastic so I have no idea except the catalogs pics lie.

That is bobioz1 setup so I'm not sure. I've seen 3 grinders on proper pedestals this week so don't give up.

The one on the left is a Jet. I shortened it to match the others (kinda sorry I did). It’s stable enough. The one in the middle I like best. Can’t remember the brand.

Bobioz1 thanks I wonder why you like the middle one better ?
Priced a similar JET. I was surprised at just how expensive a good stand is !

The top plate is smaller front to back, side to side. Fits better under a block. I like the cast rectangle removable tray for storage. It seems to have a real paint job on it, maybe epoxy. They all work but if I had to cut back to one stand it would be the one. Bought it and the Jet new from a local reseller for $50 each.

I suppose this has been posted before but this just popped up for sale.
Very tempted to grab it but it's kind of pricey... but none of these sharpening sets are cheap. Sure looks like a block with a belsaw label.

Just looked around and see they have been using blocks for a long time... very nice
