Looks great! Someday I'll find a nice 1/2 HP![]()
That pic came from a youtube video:
Would be very cool to find one like that. Maybe Cajon has one?
I was just posting the best pic I could find at the time.
I pick mine up on Thurs and will post some pics then.

That first one is nice and complete. Someone else just posted one in the other grinder thread. The second is just like the one I posted above... But missing quite a bit.Browsing my local marketplace and this these two came up... Never seen one like this myself. Is it as great as the blocks I have seen ? Asking 150. the other block on the big pedestal is asking $70
Just picked this up this morning.
The label says 1/2HP Model: 115 7575 255...underneath that it says Type CR 22 E and below that in small read 5219015.
It seems to be in good shape, no cracks etc, and it seems to be complete with the lamp and eye shields, tray etc. The stand doesn't seem to be original, though i could be wrong? Does the lamp and other parts look original? Looks like its missing something from the left tool rest. I like the collection bag!
Does anyone know the year?
I'm going to clean it up the best i can and put it into use with my '69 block grinder. HUGE difference in weight between this and my '69 block...am i right in thinking this is cast iron and the '69 block is cast aluminium?
Yep, definitely a cast iron 'pre block'. There is a thread on them that might help with dating. I think those are mid 50's but not sure. Looks like most everything is there and I really like that lamp!

I need that sander attachment, is that original for these block grinders or after market? Anybody know where one is available?

That is a sweet setup. Is the twin base from a jointer?
It’s hard to argue that a rubber sheet isn’t going to do a better job than the original metal bottom cover of keeping debris out of the internals. But isn’t it also going to significantly reduce heat exchange on the rotor cooling fins? Considering they claim it is “totally enclosed” when there are obvious air gaps around the bottom plate and the original rubber grommet feet, I’d think the air exchange there is intentional for cooling, despite allowing some fine dust to be drawn in. Especially with the extra mechanical resistance of the sanding belt attachment, I think heat diffusion inside could be important.
Also, I’d be a little worried the bottom cover, which has the wiring diagram on it(?) is going to get separated from the grinder and eventually lost. Did you run into a problem with the plan to drill & tap a hole in the other tab?
Finally, about the missing date stamp, I believe whatever ink they used is fairly easy to wipe off. I was cleaning one with a rag (can’t remember what it was dipped in...mineral spirits, alcohol, detergent?) and noticed it coming off. Could be that happened to yours, or maybe it just missed getting stamped at the factory.

Ditto. I now know what I want to do with a spare block I haven't started rebuilding yet! Watching to learn more info on the sander attachment.
I don’t own any pre blocks but I think your date is on the label. 2 of 55Just picked this up this morning.

McBrownie's thread is great and has all the info you need. I found one on CL and got it shipped for about 1/2 price of new... and got 10 belts with it.
Half price?!?!? Dammit! I'll have to start looking for deals like that. Thanks for the mention and here is the link for the build for the PA Multitool on Craftsman Block Grinders.

I still use the belt attachment regularly. Last summer, I used it while making a set of Adirondack chairs. It made quick work of sanding curves.
That looks like one of mine only because I recognize the bed liner and if you look in the back of that pic looks like a wilton 63200A anniversary vice & hammer combo box which I had several at one time and yes it is a sweat lil machine.

That's nice!!

IIRC - they were a victim of the Photobucket debacle. Is there a wiring diagram for a 1/3hp buried in these 600 pages somewhere?
Thanks!

Here's a pic of mine. Also a pic of an old school belt driven grinder. That was my father's. The Craftsman I picked up on craigslist.
It does clean stuff up in a hurry. Yes, it is 8". Knock on wood, I've avoided skin removal with it thus far. To that point I am not a fan of the pivoting tool rest though and would prefer it lock into position. I may modify that. It is set up just as I bought it from an older gentleman who realized his days tinkering in the garage were over.I had a 1hp like that for awhile. Are you running an 8" wire wheel? Sounds like an industrial fan on high and can take skin off before you know it. They sure clean stuff up fast though.
I'm currently running 6" on my 1/2 hp but may start looking for 7" to get better reach.
I went to pick up an old metal butcher table from a work friend which still had his stuff all over it. I asked if he cared about any of the stuff, and if he wanted the grinder. Told me to just load it up with the table.
I have so far put on a new DeWalt 8-in wheel and wire wheel. Light bulb housing is loose, but everything works. Been using it along with my Wen Sander to restore old tools and build combat robots.
Damn, that looks like one of the older iron body grinders! 3/4hp to boot. Free!?!? You **** sir![]()
