Looks great! Someday I'll find a nice 1/2 HP :)

That pic came from a youtube video:

Would be very cool to find one like that. Maybe Cajon has one?
I was just posting the best pic I could find at the time.

I pick mine up on Thurs and will post some pics then.

There have been members to find new in box ones, maybe he was one?
They really command a premium if you go to resell them.

Well it wasn't as nice as I was hoping but I still think it was barely used. I swapped in my glass shields and lamp cover since the new one is cracked. Looks nice and clean inside however the bottom cover tab is broken. I'll probably just drill a hole on the other side and mount it there.

No date stamp unfortunately. I believe these metal switch versions were 1970-71.

That first one is nice and complete. Someone else just posted one in the other grinder thread. The second is just like the one I posted above... But missing quite a bit.

Huh looks like the same one in the other thread.

Just picked this up this morning.

The label says 1/2HP Model: 115 7575 255...underneath that it says Type CR 22 E and below that in small read 5219015.

It seems to be in good shape, no cracks etc, and it seems to be complete with the lamp and eye shields, tray etc. The stand doesn't seem to be original, though i could be wrong? Does the lamp and other parts look original? Looks like its missing something from the left tool rest. I like the collection bag!

Does anyone know the year?

I'm going to clean it up the best i can and put it into use with my '69 block grinder. HUGE difference in weight between this and my '69 block...am i right in thinking this is cast iron and the '69 block is cast aluminium?

Yep, definitely a cast iron 'pre block'. There is a thread on them that might help with dating. I think those are mid 50's but not sure. Looks like most everything is there and I really like that lamp!

Here she is in her new home. Sorry for the mess...
Got the sander mounted and cut some 3/4" thick rubber mat to go under the grinder.
Still need to trim it up and get it straight but it should eliminate any vibration.
I just left the bottom plate off because of the broken tab. I don't think anything can get in there as mounted.

I need that sander attachment, is that original for these block grinders or after market? Anybody know where one is available?

That is a sweet setup. Is the twin base from a jointer?
It’s hard to argue that a rubber sheet isn’t going to do a better job than the original metal bottom cover of keeping debris out of the internals. But isn’t it also going to significantly reduce heat exchange on the rotor cooling fins? Considering they claim it is “totally enclosed” when there are obvious air gaps around the bottom plate and the original rubber grommet feet, I’d think the air exchange there is intentional for cooling, despite allowing some fine dust to be drawn in. Especially with the extra mechanical resistance of the sanding belt attachment, I think heat diffusion inside could be important.
Also, I’d be a little worried the bottom cover, which has the wiring diagram on it(?) is going to get separated from the grinder and eventually lost. Did you run into a problem with the plan to drill & tap a hole in the other tab?
Finally, about the missing date stamp, I believe whatever ink they used is fairly easy to wipe off. I was cleaning one with a rag (can’t remember what it was dipped in...mineral spirits, alcohol, detergent?) and noticed it coming off. Could be that happened to yours, or maybe it just missed getting stamped at the factory.

Check out McBrownie's post for details but yeah these are still being made. You have to make a spacer but that took like 10 min. I believe I just used a 3" hole saw and a 2x4. Cut another hole for the arbor and then drilled out the bolt holes. Then sand to width and install.

I will probably saw out a hole in the middle, but the rubber feet are still on so it is not a solid seal all the way around. I did not mess with the cover yet as it needs the tab to hold it in place, no matter which side is mounted. Just don't want it rattling as I use it. I may try to jb weld the tab back on eventually. It won't get lost as I keep it with all the parts I took off for the sander.

Oh and the double pedestal came with my first 1/3 HP grinder purchase. These are lathe pedestals and do not come up very often. They are nice as the mounts are exactly the same as the grinder mount.

Ditto. I now know what I want to do with a spare block I haven't started rebuilding yet! Watching to learn more info on the sander attachment.

McBrownie's thread is great and has all the info you need. I found one on CL and got it shipped for about 1/2 price of new... and got 10 belts with it.

I don’t own any pre blocks but I think your date is on the label. 2 of 55

Half price?!?!? Dammit! I'll have to start looking for deals like that. Thanks for the mention and here is the link for the build for the PA Multitool on Craftsman Block Grinders.

I still use the belt attachment regularly. Last summer, I used it while making a set of Adirondack chairs. It made quick work of sanding curves.

Estate sale find, runs smooth
$7.00

X2.......:beer::lol_hitti
Good find, just needs cosmetic work!

I got a real nice one last summer for $10.00, but stupidly gave it away to someone I thought was going to be a good friend and help me move, and (he has a CDL) drive the truck and everything.
He turned out to be ALL TALK!...........:headscrat:headscrat:mad::mad:
Oh well?
Live and learn I guess.

Here's a pic of mine. Also a pic of an old school belt driven grinder. That was my father's. The Craftsman I picked up on craigslist.

I had a 1hp like that for awhile. Are you running an 8" wire wheel? Sounds like an industrial fan on high and can take skin off before you know it. They sure clean stuff up fast though.

I'm currently running 6" on my 1/2 hp but may start looking for 7" to get better reach.

I finished up my 1/2hp. i havent quite decided what its ultimate use is. I will probably go with that multitool sander I've seen on this page. Does anyone know if it is a direct bolt on or require some fabrication????

Im not sure about the other side. Maybe a wire wheel? I have a 3/4hp Baldor for actual grinding. I really only bought this because of the bad infulences on this site. It will get put to use. I committed sacrilege and used a non standard color that another member used way back in the early pages. Its the rustoleum light blue. The cooling tray and eye shields are still getting touched up but I have them.

It does clean stuff up in a hurry. Yes, it is 8". Knock on wood, I've avoided skin removal with it thus far. To that point I am not a fan of the pivoting tool rest though and would prefer it lock into position. I may modify that. It is set up just as I bought it from an older gentleman who realized his days tinkering in the garage were over.

I went to pick up an old metal butcher table from a work friend which still had his stuff all over it. I asked if he cared about any of the stuff, and if he wanted the grinder. Told me to just load it up with the table.
I have so far put on a new DeWalt 8-in wheel and wire wheel. Light bulb housing is loose, but everything works. Been using it along with my Wen Sander to restore old tools and build combat robots.

Not the older "pre block" with cast iron. The giveaway is the switch location:the older model had the switch mounted lower, on the ledge, of the center oanel.
