I got the side covers finished today, I found an old piece of 10 ga. in the scrap and used my template to mark and cut out the two pieces. I then remarked them with soap stone and ground them back to the line. Drilled the holes and punched one for the shaft to fit through then test fit them to the grinder and remarked the shaft hole to center it. I use my largest greenlee punch on the shaft hole and finished it with a die grinder. Yes those are dust caps I fit them to the holes and welded them in. Did a final grind and then blasted them. I will drop them at powder coat in the morning and hopefully pick up the pedestal. I am still looking for a block of steel to cut the tool rest from. 989c303be1f9ad9785c12b74f1c575b8.jpg0302bd7864d28a5a1e28c6013742f6ec.jpgd185b7dd8389cacf7b81cddbf463bf3f.jpg388028a8cabf33ae42be2b7c97b85802.jpg3b4f8c5d68edd3412c5ccf0472656a17.jpgbe08aa8d8bfa42163596dc4e6c03c972.jpg1673831f67928dbe489499fd28ee8ab3.jpgbc520f7c90d1190b78b11c03a7e5dd4a.jpgac8cca8b7580a1477318f86e3bc72e8b.jpg

Looking good HJ. Looks like a nice old Parker/Trojan vise you have going there. You might want to post a few pics to the Vises thread. Looking forward to the finished product.

EDIT: By the way, how the F did you cut that out with an angle grinder? :D

Harley: nice work on spiffing up that $10 or was it $5 old block grinder. WOW!!

so who made the new label for you cause I missed if you already said it?

also if you'd like to post up your 12 vises over on my Organizing thread i'll sort them out so you'll know which ones to keep or use to fund other tool purchases.

ALL: here's to all you BLOCKHEADS. may your 2020 be the best year yet!!

I got a little done today on the tool rest, just wasn't feeling it today so I got me a jar of peach and sat and contemplated the universe. Tomorrow I think I can finish them.: headscratchc1c934bb0d7af493ddba5d2ef9ff36d3.jpg9f6f94d5d9b7ad846efdff73afe1dffc.jpg6af685ffc4227a4599f631ccc2eec9c6.jpgc21c4e8c1c30a25a7bae5f26bb30e6f9.jpgf0d2544625ceafd90db498f08b8e6064.jpg84109d7e5ac5805cf847549a79771460.jpg30939df95ace54b82300bac815e8cfcd.jpg3662ecde142d05a00037c06e97e33d49.jpgd7e3e0bd72cf8976270bde0796999de2.jpg

Had to make a set of isolators to go between the grinder and the base. Like the feet on the base I started with 4 sience lab bottle stoppers. I drilled them through the center and mounted them on a machine bolt so they could be chucked in the lathe. I took my calipers and laid out the cut lines then using my angle grinder with a cut off wheel ground out the groove and cut to length. The two on the left were the originals the 4 on the right are the new ones. 918ede9557d6bf94e23524b4974ac41d.jpg9bca22555ccc5b60f31efef049b87276.jpg543d8e66116cab8c80e2bc7aeb95b615.jpg8ef53180af209c791ee626009e5ba622.jpg496fc0694a6fa22e5ca7fa5ea133ea14.jpg

JIM: it's AWESOME that you have the materials and the skills to make the stuff to repair that old block. that said maybe if you'd have known you could buy those rubber feet for your block at Lowe's for I think less than $2 it might have saved you some time.

if you need help or have ideas on how to spiff up your block and maybe want to run it by the group there are many guys on this thread that have rebuilt many of these old blocks and DOC BLOCK didn't get his name for no reason.

pretty sure i've never ever seen anybody on this thread make up grinder wheel covers though and thank you for sharing not only the pictures, but your time.

AGAIN WELL DONE and looks like you custom made them perfect.:bowdown:

Feeling good today so I finished the tool rests also. Found two pieces of flat stock in one of my buckets, I bolted them together to get matching cuts. Measured and cut the lower half and used the leftover for the top welded them together wire brushed all pieces and painted matt black. Now I'm waiting on powder coat to finish up, they are slammed right now, may take a couple days!f22961151480aa7c3a822d9691262770.jpg9e2ce15539495c52b9831b8f9b73e9c6.jpg81cf70e31f5da0552487d6fc08cfc1f4.jpg9ee8e8c92643e258e4b3bd6dd85fb966.jpg91f7b1fd32887c34828f98b69278b2ce.jpgfd0ac130b01ba858a995c9e613bb1506.jpg

Yep. I checked lowes, hd, ace nobody had them. Found the stoppers at ace. Took about 20 minutes to crank them out. No biggy. Thanks for the kind words. Hoping to wrap this one up in a couple more days.

I picked this 1/2 horse up today for $25. Anyone know what the model# would be? All that's on it is 713190153 on the label but that doesn't come up at all in a google search. Seems like a decent grinder, more powerful than a WEN 8'' i have.

Thanks
JG

Didn't even know these grinders had a following!? Needed a bench grinder with tool rests and guards and adding them to the one I had would cost three times as much as I paid for the grinder. Saw this guy on FB Marketplace the other day for $20 with the stand. Picked it up today and the guy said he was inundated with offers after mine for well over asking. But, being a cool guy, he still gave it to me because I was first to reply. It was his dad's who barely used it. Still has the original wheels and everything (I'll replace them along with the bearings). Pretty psyched to know I grabbed a good one.

I did a little more on mine today.
I bought a light at a thrift store for 3.50 then stopped at lowes and picked up a led can light from there discount bin for 4.00 then home to rearrange a few parts as the desk lamp wasn't very bright. The can light had a small transformer in the threaded bulb adapter that I removed and relocated to the brackets that I added to the top of the reflector shortened a couple wires and added a couple longer wires to go down the tube to the switch in the base. 39e3a00fd447a38840ca818b0517bd56.jpgaf4fb2fc44f64c9e702ca18bd475edcb.jpg0e0d7cfc58bd6bd4efde91129175a8dd.jpgfb97fa502fde8d7c4c9820c061f00d4b.jpgf1555802b111259d0d62ba5784749136.jpg4f32d15db64f46eb2147b5cf48e82048.jpg75817fbf6cab850da7de8b142cda9159.jpg

Just found this thread and registered with the forum. Love the old Craftsman tools. Picked up my first CM bench grinder this past week. Pictures to follow.

If anyone is close to Bakersfield CA, you might want to check on this one. 1/2 hp with a stand that doesn't appear to be a CM. Looks like it is missing a couple of covers but $25.

Can't post a link since this is my first post. You can search the Bakersfield Craigslist under "Grinder" and it should pull up.

I think $25 is about all it is worth. Browsing through the tools section I think better options probably pop up fairly often. Looks like an interesting area.

Switch appears to be replaced, too--but $25 is definitely a good deal!

Just finished restoration on this 115.7575. From 1959. Bead blasted repainted to original colors. New bearings, rewired up to coil. New capacitor. New wheels. Runs like a top.
Before restoration pic added.
