Feeling good today so I finished the tool rests also. Found two pieces of flat stock in one of my buckets, I bolted them together to get matching cuts. Measured and cut the lower half and used the leftover for the top welded them together wire brushed all pieces and painted matt black. Now I'm waiting on powder coat to finish up, they are slammed right now, may take a couple days!

That is mind-boggling fantastic work hj!

Just finished restoration on this 115.7575. From 1959. Bead blasted repainted to original colors. New bearings, rewired up to coil. New capacitor. New wheels. Runs like a top.

Nice, I just got another one of those as well. Do a search for the pre-block thread and you will find a bunch of them.

Those Dayton eye shields look pretty good! I sold a set I probably should have kept. What wheels did you get?

That is a great looking grinder, good job on saving another one.
I went to look at another one tonight but got stood up.

Woohoo! Assembly line twins! Mine is dated 1 - 59--although I can't swear I restored anywhere close to original colors. What are you basing that on? I'm waiting for Mattblast to be able to reproduce the aluminum label for me.

I think his matches pretty close from what I have seen.
They basically had brown and tan or the gold with the striped center band for the 1/2 hp. The 1/3 had a cool dark grey that looks pretty sweet (I posted one for sale a few pages back that looked new).

I would imagine he either looked though the pictures online or had enough original paint left to get a match.

Lafester, I'm using a wire wheel and a CGW 120 stone. Eye shields aren't correct but I had these. Will hunt for correct ones. I dont think the light is correct for year. This one is from an early 397 model.
Old radar. I should say very close to original colors. Paint under data tag was still vibrant . Easy to match. Brown was as dark as I could find to match pictures on internet.
My data tag has been touched up. I made a Craftsman stencil and re-shot the red. Then clear coated the whole tag.

Jetmech--

Looks great! Welcome to the GJ! BTW, those were subtle hints by some of the members that you posted in a less-than-absolutely-correct thread. There is a whole thread devoted to our Pre-Block grinders. Exmaxima gave you the link above.

Found a 1/4hp block missing side covers for $25 locally. No light but has both plastic shield and the little tables.

https://scontent-lga3-1.**.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/p720x720/80803637_10215842628203109_3200000589731725312_o.jpg?_nc_cat=102&_nc_ohc=hJKE9jtbNX8AX-Pli8V&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-1.**&_nc_tp=1002&oh=752da2f9be9751c83ebb7feb61edee85&oe=5E913F8F

Seems to have the original sears grinding wheels on it so I imagine it didn't get much use.

I'm guessing for $25 it is worth picking up? I'm trying to see if they can maybe find the side covers for it.

I also just picked up a 1/3hp, bit earlier model with the metal framed shields and a light, all complete and in pretty good shape, however, I paid a pretty penny for this one as I was looking for a nice condition, slightly older model.

That looks pretty sweet! The tray looks like a recast... never have seen one so rough.

Yeah-I blasted the ****** paint off as you know water doesn’t sit well in metallic surfaces.. [emoji2369](who knew[emoji23]) I realized that was horrible casting flash and thought at first it was a crack-but it’s not.. it was a matching dark grey-and dirt but now it’s just bare aluminum..

Thanks—they were actually just dirty... a Simple Green soaked cloth and scrub-a-dub-dub and they’re like new.. (minus the light bulb burns) [emoji106]

On other guards that were less clear-I used Mothers Mag Wheel Polish in the past to polish and clear up the plastic lenses.

Nice cleanup! What did you use for the cleanup? Your before and after pics show you moved the melted shield from right to left side ;)

Shhhhhhhhhh... [emoji41]

I only used Simple Green as I’m usually happy as the non-diluted form even under heavy pressure applied will not remove old paint. I should have dressed the wheels before the pics.. about an hour and a half of rubbing and wiping-and it looks great..I was honestly surprised at the surface shine!

Here’s the largest Craftsman block Grinder that I own. I bought it earlier this month. It’s rated at 1 hp, and runs like it was barely ever used.

I'm sure it's been asked/discussed, but do all of the 1/2 hp square top blocks use 7" grinding wheels?

I assume it is ok to put 6" wheels on a block that is designed for a 7" wheel. Yes or no?

Thanks Jim. I have never run across one of these before. It takes 8” wheels, and this one actually came with an extra set of wheels too. For $100 I couldn’t turn it down.
