Hmmm, I checked the Sears/Craftsman tool catalogues I have, starting with 1962.
The first 3/4-HP flat top model I found was on pp. 100, of the 50th Anniversary edition of the Sears Power and Hand Tool Catalog, 1976/1977. However, it shows 6x3/4" stones.
I do see a listing for 3/4-HP Blocks with 8" stones, in the 1974/75 catalog, it has the separate HD cast iron base with integral tool rests and cooling tray.
I'll let you know if your model shows up in a later catalog.
$50!?!I was very lucky to pick up this 1 hp tonight with stand. Missing the side shields but couldn't pass it up for $50.

I sure like the attachment of the tool rests on those better than the ones that attach to the inner guard.

I realize my old eyes aren't as sharp as they once were, but these two 1-HP flat top Blocks look like twins!
The stands are different, but the thin LH white wheel and marks on the cooling tray, and both need the side wheel guard covers -- got my attention.

Looks like he made $10 and kept the factory craftsman stand!
Closer look, seems like it is sitting on the bench corner.Stands nice but I just wanted the grinder no room for a stand. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a big 1hp for a long time haven’t seen any they must be rare

I made it nearly a year without buying a block grinder, until I came across this one. Not new in the box, but I'd call it new out of the box. I can't see any signs of use on it, and it would make sense based on the other NOS Craftsman items that were part of the same estate. No date stamp on the bottom, but the owners guide was printed in late 1976.
LOL. Yep! Capitalism at work.Looks like he made $10 and kept the factory craftsman stand!
VW - let me be the 1st. OK, the 2nd. LOL
Great job!
What brand and model paint did you use? It really is a sharp look!

here is mine, i'm getting some glass cut for the guards and need to get the label sorted out, was my grandpas i believe the date was September 27th 1965, i tore it down fixed some wiring replaced the bearings and gave it a fresh coat of paint and she runs like a champ

I bet that 1/3 hp pre is more powerful AND cooler looking. Does it fit 7 inch wheels?
I agree with Radar, the HD 1 and 3/4-HP's I've seen/owned, had the set screws on the bottom only.Nice!! You're set for some heavy duty grinding!
I bet the upper set screws were an PO mod. My older 1/2hp cast round top only has set screws on the bottom. From you #4 picture it looks like there is only a upper screw on the right side. Maybe he had a grinding wheel out of balance and it was vibrating the tool rest loose.
