My welding table is dual purpose, I usually have a sheet of 5/8" MDF on it for non welding task.

Bout ~1200lbs, rolls like a Bently tho.

My benches are just junk cobbled together as it happened, never really have stopped to build one. The thing that makes them work is location in relation to the other floor space, doors and human traffic. I use 2, one is really an oversized vise stand.

Thanks guys! It has had a big impact on my quality and production speed.

Oh those, a reminder to finish the table I suppose. No, they are mounting plates for some very nice floor locks that I have laying around. Im hung up on finding a good+cheap material for the footing ie rubber, silicone, etc...

Hockey pucks are just a tad to small, and everything else seems to be way to much money for a chunk of something in the durometer range.

Latest creation: An outdoor bench (or crafting table as my kids would say) Outdoor? Yes this is in AZ.
Cost: $70 for a HF vice.
Use: Grinding, sanding and other jobs that make a big mess. Painting, welding, ect.

I picked up this tailgate from a 67 ford a friend had in his junkyard. It was bent severely along its length, so I drove my truck over it a few times until it was reasonably flat again.
Legs are ex-fence posts, sch40 2.5". I capped bottom ends so it doesn't sink in the gravel, and also made provision for anchoring to concrete.
I welded plates to the tailgate sheet metal to make flat spots for leg attachment points. This way I can replace the tailgate with something else in the future if I want to.



Not sure if this is final location. If so I need to add a way to anchor the legs. and lighting. and power. and compressed air.

Yes no more folding tables or my vice-on-a-jack. Seems odd that I built a 1300sqft building, just to put a bench outside. But the building has to serve many purposes can't just let the sparks fly, yet...

Getting close to being finished with a table. No where near as large as most here but should suit my hobby needs just fine. Still need to add receiver tubes (have 4 just not set on placement yet), lower shelf (likely expanded metal) and some sort of slide out shelf for my Makita cold saw.

Top is (2) 2'x2' 1/2" blanchard ground (seconds from a place that makes griddles) and frame is 2"x2" 1/4" wall tube. Also have adjustable feet on each leg for leveling. Castors are off a harbor freight 44" US General box.

Here is me making sure my landing gear would work before I moved on. It did work. The wheels lift down when I jack the bottle jack.



After paint I wired in 2 4 plex outlets and to iar line hook ups



Has a 10 pound ABC fire extinguisher ready to go


Here she is in action. I was rebuilding a toro wheel horse 520lxi this was the transmission for it on the bench.



Still have a few things to finish up on the bench but pretty much finished up

The wood is Australian Red Gum that I salvaged from a railway bridge some years back.

The boarder trim is just plain 1 1/4 x 5/16 flat mild steel and I just left it the way it was, mill scale and all.

Hi fellas,
I made 3 benches using old school house classroom doors. The frames are mortised with all thread rod draw bolts and open on the front. The doors are 1 3/4" solid particle board (and heavy) 7' long (tall). I had 16 gauge steel formed to wrap around the front edge and at the rear for a back splash. Each bench has 2 Steelcase computer keyboard drawers screwed to the bottom (they were new/never used about to be scrapped).
I've been using them for 16 years now. My only complaint would be: there is NEVER enough bench top space!

Some seriously awesome craftsmanship in this thread.

Here's my humble addition. 1/4" steel top. Legs and shelf fabbed out of pallet racking materials. It's the smallest bench I've owned and, so far, the one I like best.

This is what I came up with for my first work bench build...

It doesn't look as good anymore, but has been really solid!! The height has worked out great too...
