My 11 year old Dane is retiring. This is an older pic when she was healthier. She's fighting cancer right now.

This is her replacement at 8 weeks old. Just picked her up and headed home.

This is her at 6 months. 102 pounds and growing! I'm expecting 185 t0 200 pounds when she's done cooking. Since I need the weight and height...she should be between 34" to 36" at the shoulders.

They are both "car girls"....just taking a break.

His name is officially Tucker, but that's a little too dry for me, so I call him Chuck. He's ~6.5y/o in these pictures. We've had him since he was 8 weeks. 95lbs, raw fed, purebred.

Removed the 'S' from https in your Imgur inks for you.

He's beautiful! We had a rot for 9 years before we lost her to cancer and planned to get another and somehow ended up with the goofiest most amazing yellow lab instead because she chose us.

Here she is supervising the carpet installers working across the street from us this morning while I was doing some garage cleanup waiting on my deck builder to show up.

This is Australian Cattle Dog Jessie. Better known as Jessie OverHereThisWayThereYaGoGoodBoy. He crawled out of a ravine in the woods behind my house one afternoon 2 1/2 years ago after three days of horrendous thunderstorms, desperately crying for help, completely wet, and holy ****, he's blind too. He'd been lost in the woods for a couple of days at least as I had heard him crying off in the distance earlier. I took him to the local shelter in case his owners were looking for him, and on the way there I promised him that if his people didn't come get him, he would come home to live with me and my two Dachshunds. There was a week waiting period during which I visited him a couple of times and my thoughts went from "I hope his owners claim him" to "Damn I hope I get to keep him". Best companion dog ever, the Dachshunds are not amused.
Anyway, sorry for the long first post, been a lurking member here for a few years, my thanks to all to lend their expertise, with your help, I just installed a subpanel in my detached bike shed, after 3 years of putting it off. Let there be light, dammit.

Not mine, unfortunately - single and a traveling technician doesn’t allow it, for now. My brothers dog, but I get to keep him a week a month or so.

This was Tucker at 3 months old in my truck:

This was Tucker a couple of weeks ago, just after his first birthday. He’s a monster:

No pics in the garage yet. He likes to dip his head in the oil catch pan and crawl under the vehicles while I’m trying to position jack stands, so for now, I keep him in the back yard.

Is Tucker a Goldendoodle? He looks like a giant sweetheart.

Some Labradors and Golden Retrievers can be very big, bigger than the standard. My avatar, Sooner was huge for a pure Lab.

They're ALL good dogs. I'm totally convinced of it. Unfortunately there are some bad, some very bad, and some plain lousy ******* or neglectful owners.

These other owners are the reason why you hear about supposedly "bad" dogs. If they're socialized from the beginning, trained positively (NO punishment) and they know they're loved, they are all great.

This is my 13 year old Plott Hound. She was a rescue and as abused as a puppy. During various medical appointments we discovered she had a fractured jaw, a bullet lodged in her hip, and a brutal thick scar surrounding her neck.

Despite this, she is the sweetest dog I've ever met. Sounds cheezy, but we have a bond on another level. She is cool and calm and seldom shows emotion (except when she sees a bear, racoon, or squirrel) but there's something in her eyes. She's getting on in years, and I'm NOT looking forward to the day I'll have to say my final goodbye....

This is Pepper

964haus - Sounds like she had one or more rotten ******* prior tormentors (not "owner").

SO glad she has someone like you. There's no way to prove it of course but in my opinion your bond with her is her knowing you would never hurt her. It's a dog's "gratitude" for lack of a better word.

best wishes to Dane for her fight against illness

Pepper looks so chilled - must be a reflection on how she feels about you bearing in mind what she's gone through

@964haus, it makes me sad to hear stories like that (as I'm sure just about everyone else in this thread). It's great to hear her rough start in life led her to a much better life!

Thanks all. We only discovered the bullet about 2 years ago - we've had her since she was about 3, and finding out more about her rough start in life was tough. Upside is she now has a pretty plush life...

HUGE kudos to you for adopting a senior dog.:thumbup::thumbup:

Makes me sad some people give away their older dogs because they don't want to deal with their maladies or a puppy is "cuter". Yes, they are cute but a senior is SO loving, calm, patient - usually, and appreciative.

Hopefully your adoptee wasn't abandoned.

Thanks Dan.
He wasn't abandoned, came from a very good home. Sadly he had to go due to personal circumstances.

More than that, it's emotionally difficult. They don't live long enough as it is. I would have a hard time getting attached and then sending them over the bridge in a short time. So yeah, kudos!

And mine didn't get the memo about senior dogs. At almost 9, calm, patient and appreciative he is not. He's an overgrown 65 lb puppy that is becoming quite demanding (unless poppa gets cranky). There are certain things he gets at certain times of the day and you better not be late (we swear he has a swiss watch in his brain)! He bugs us all day long to let him out to the garage so he can play with his "squeaky toy"!

My hat is off to you sir for your loving care for her, her plush life is so well deserved. It makes me sick when I hear stories of dogs especially, but any animal being abused. They truly need stricter laws for these abusers.

Ranger got a new nameplate on his door, so now when he’s wagging his tongue in the wind everybody will know his name.

It’s held on by magnets, so I can take it off to clean the slobber.

I had some idiot calling at my dog in the car next to me at a super busy stoplight one day. Luckily I keep the dog's window at least 1/3 up all the time.

I also don't have my dogs name on his ID tags or anywhere. Also, when someone knows a dog's name the dog assumes they are a friend. Too many assholes out there who don't need to know your dog's name...Or you children's names for that matter. My ID tag only has 2 Phone/text numbers and my address in case someone finds him roaming the neighborhood. I have the same for visiting dogs I might watch.

Ranger looks like he wants everyone to be his friend. He also looks like a dog other people would like to have...Keep him safe.

Ranger was a name I'd considered too. So was Trooper. I went with Cooper.

Always wants to be in my lap, especially so if he’s wet or muddy.

Yes, he’s everyone’s buddy.

He’s rarely left unattended. If so, my neighbors know. We all have dogs, and lookout for each other.

Strokes/folks I suppose but this strikes me as odd as the people that cover the picture of their license plate when they advertise them for sale yet drive down the street in front of THOUSANDS of cars with the license plain to see.:wtf:

I can't answer to why they do that, but as for what I was saying in regards to your example, a stranger can't meet my car at the park with bad intent or happen to see it later and coax it away by saying, "come on PHB-286, who's a good car? Come on..."

Just like cars people steel dogs. Sometimes to keep, sometimes for resale, and sometimes to torture or use them to bait fighting dogs. I'll pass.
