Dogs are SO damn great! They're totally genuine, not a fake bone in their bodies. If they find a sheep skull they want it! And they want to bring it to where it makes them happy to show it off. If stretching out against the sofa rubs their privates and it feels good, do it a lot!

Took my pups to the dog park today. The actual dog parks - for small & large dogs - are closed undergoing re-seeding. The entire park is called Horsethief Park and is on a hill leading up into a huge undeveloped area. Lower on the hill is a huge flat area adjacent to; but too narrow for a soccer field. They mow it, it's fenced so most dog owners are now using it. It's waay bigger than the assigned dog areas. Anyway......

On arrival today saw this sign:

I thought about leaving but if there was a bear sighted there are ALWAYS bears. Turned out it had been seen high up in the park well away from where the dog area is.....though bears are fast (and little dogs would make a helluva snack)

I've been working on getting our retirement place squared away. Retirement is a ways off, but we've been trying to prepare. At some point rodents got into the dry food. I hadn't seen any signs of rodents inside before this. Yeehaw. 🐀🐀

I had some rodent repellent spray on hand & hit the area with heavy with some of that. I put our dry food into ammo cans. I set traps, but never caught any.

On the next trip we took our dog Fozzie up there. I never thought about it before, but he instantly went on the hunt. I followed him & took note of where he was focused. Behind the pellet stove there is an access door that wasn't closed tight. He sniffed a lot there. And at the dryer vent in the floor that was behind a stack of moving boxes. Turns out there was no dryer vent pipe, just a hole. I closed both of those off. I continued to set traps for awhile, but have had no more signs of rodents inside since. Good job Foz!

My best rodent access locating assistant. No pics from the hunt, so here's his other favorite activity.

Some cats make great dogs. We had one that realized how good the dogs had it, so he learned to dog. He was a great dog.
We had one too. He would come thumping down the stairs when we came home. I do mean thumping. He was far from feline grace. He has unfortunately passed on a couple of years ago. He lived a good long life.

We just drove over 4 hours to the MK9 Veteran K9 Ranch to meet and adopt our new family member from the Mission K-9 Rescue.

Introducing 9 year old Belgian Malinois Military Working Dog Messi.

MWD Messi W459 has quite the history!

MWD Messi served in the Connecticut National Guard.

He was part of the only Active National Guard K-9 unit in the country.

Messi was a dual purpose PEDD (Patrol Explosive Detector Dog) and worked many state and federal missions.
Including many United States Secret Service missions and a deployment to Iraq.

We fully intend to give this deserving boy lots of well deserved attention and spoiling.

Oh, he is. We are just amazed by him every day. He is super smart and very loving. He is quickly learning how it is to be spoiled rotten. He and his new brother get along very well. We are truly blessed to have both of them. We took some gunpowder and put it in some small metal containers. Then we place them in various places outside and let him do his scent work. It’s really cool to see him work and he really enjoys it.

The newest member of the family and a fixture in the shop- he was abandoned on the yard where I work. Meet Charlie. He’s a Boxer mix with some issues- he can’t hear too well. But he’s an awesome shop dog.6695836A-B161-48DA-8B84-A74773196F46.jpeg
Oh man, with that much nothing to the horizon let that pooch run (would he know to come back?). He's got to WANT to run, sniff and pee on every square inch.

There's a way - though I'm no dog trainer - that you can train him to respond to hand signals. I know some guys do it for bird dogs in the field so there's likely videos on how to do it on Youtube.

His "chassis" looks like a very long wheelbase, or maybe it's just the photo. Give him some belly rubs for me. Thanks for saving him.

PS: My son-in-law has had three rescue boxers. He told me that white boxers are known to frequently be deaf.

I need that sign for my yard. I have some very obnoxious dog walkers...
Once I installed security cameras, I noticed that people pull their dogs off my lawn.

Someone in our neighborhood wouldn't pick up after their Doberman. He was caught on someone's camera and the picture was sent to the HOA management company. The picture was put up on the website and in the newsletter. With a caption. Please pick up after your dog.

He did.

He popped a lead the other day, and an hour later, we had him back.
Charlie is a great dog. He hangs in the shop. A lot.
I've heard that about the white boxers. Heard some awful things recommended by AKC back in the day.
No bad dogs. No bad dog breeds. Just loyal companion.
