Maya has had a good run and a loving family, we hope she heals fast. Jake and I will include her in our prayers tonight.
She had a rough night, but finally started eating soft foods around lunch today.

Older dogs recover slower than young pups.

Wife in set her up a bed by the front door so she could watch the cars go by.

Max & Fifi were groomed Christmas Eve day and they shaved them too short. Some kind of miscommunication. These are Southern California dogs and of course being MY dogs they are spoiled rotten.

Max laid down on my bed on a spare blanket and curled in a tight ball. I wrapped the blanket over him and he slept that way the entire night.

Dan, same groomer gave me that haircut years ago. The young lady did not have scissors so the whole process was done with an electric clipper. Scars on my scalp provide lots of cowlicks. It was my fault for choosing a $10 shop.
I wish their grooming could be had for $10. Both of them shampooed, dried, cut and brushed out is $125-150. EEK. But they're "doodles" which are popular right now - usually at least 2 or 3 more every time I take them in so groomers must be making good incomes.

For the cost of a couple haircuts, you can buy an Andis commercial grade clipper and the couple heads you need. I do the boys, or I'd be in it for as much as you are.

I DID buy a set of good clippers and they HATED it. Would not hold still enough for me to do it safely. I even have an overhead tie for them like the groomers have - no dice. Kills me to spend that much. All my other dogs got backyard hose baths and were towel dried, end of story.

My good boy Zeus (Boston Terrier/Rat Terrier mix) was 18 years and 2 months old when he passed away last week. He was 7 when given to my roommate (code for not married but decades living together) and myself by our nextdoor neighbors before they moved. We really had grown fond of him, as he had to us, over the two years they lived there and were happy to welcome him into our family.

Z0.Z2013-05-12_15-40-30_214-1-1-1.JPG This was Zeus at 7 years old, shortly after we got him 11 years ago.

The three of us had a great life together but no one can stop the effects of aging or cheat death. Six years ago my roommate died after battling a terminal illness for 1-1/2 years. It was a difficult time around here. She and that dog really loved each other. Following her death he would lay by the door just waiting for her to come through it and give him some loving.

The years are starting to show - 12 years old, stressed by 4th of July fireworks wearing a thunder shirt.

As hard as it was for me to get up every day and go to work, knowing my soulmate was gone, it was made much easier by the thought of the happy and excited greeting my good buddy would have waiting for me upon returning.

VERY sorry to hear of your losses. So glad you and your roommate gave Zeus a loving life. I just don't understand people who can give away a beloved family member - which are what dogs are to me and apparently to most of us on this thread. I jokingly say they're people without voices or thumbs.

@topp64, death comes for all of us. Sometimes it takes a loved one far too soon and sometimes it waits too long to bring relief. The only good thing death can give us is an appreciation for the life we have. You gave Zeus six years of love and he gave it back in equal measure. Your job now is to honor the lives your two loves shared with you. Mourn them as long as you need to but don't forget how important you were in their lives. Every day is a gift, even the flaming bag of poop ones.
