Took my shop inspectors, Fifi and Max to the big dog park today before it started raining again. No other dogs were there so they ended up sniffing around, doing their business then looked at me like, "ok where are all the other dogs?!" So we went home. No fun for them especially because I stopped off at the groomer to schedule them for tomorrow. Somehow I think they KNOW it!

Anyone else dog refusing to drink water in the winter?

6:15 he starts whimpering for breakfast/outdoors. I drop his food in the bowl and by 6:20 it's time to GO. By 6:25 he's back ready to be let in for his treat.

Then it's right back to the door. I look out at 6:30 and he's attacking the snow, eating it by the CHOMP.

When the snow melts off he's usually confused for a day then reluctantly rediscovers his water bowl.
Otis does this.

Snow on the ground? He will chomp and eat all he can. He won’t drink water. No tap water, no filtered water, NOTHING.

Here’s a screenshot of a video of him eating snow lmao

Kona didn't think anyone would notice. Keen eye for the eraser dan.
Ha! I've almost always had male dogs. I suppose that's why. FYI: They were perpetually happy to see me too. Well. pretty much anyone!

He's a big doodle, huh. A Goldendoodle or a Labradoodle? I've stopped trying to guess. Every time I think one it's the other. GREAT dogs.

My Fifi was advertised as a 1 year old Labradoodle and has NO Labrador Retriever in her at all. She is absolutely as sweet and gentle as can be. Her eyes are golden and everyone comments on that when they see her and want to know what kind of dog she is. She's 25-26% poodle and American Eskimo dog. 3rd thing on the list of breeds is Pitbull but I don't believe it. She doesnt bear ANY resemblance to them at all. Though her temperament is sweet as all the pit bulls I've ever known are despite their reputations. Little Max the terrorist is the same 25-26% poodle but a baker's variety of little dogs after that. Shih tzu, Shiba Inu, etc. He's sweet too but for some reason is reactive to only SOME dogs. Not reliably big or little, male or female. He picks and chooses who to nip. He never fights but he does warn some off for some reason.

Another rather damp morning walk in the woods. Got back and dried and fed the dogs, and Lucy decided to eat a pan of roasted butternut squash the inlaws had left on the kitchen worktop. They never seem to learn not to leave food within reach of the dogs. They lost a whole christmas roast a few years back to their old lurcher.

Fifi & Max went to the dog park this afternoon. A LOT of dogs today: Astrid the super athletic Belgian Malinois, Duke the German Shepherd/Doberman that has a bark that would wake the dead. Marie, the Labradoodle that's a little bigger than my Fifi.

Fifi won't chase a ball for me. She loved chasing other dogs though for fun. Today she chased a ball one of the other owners was chucking over and over and over. Max stood RIGHT next to me...well...after he nipped Duke. Duke chased him and his huge bark scared the poop outta Max! He behaved after that, ha ha.

Pic right before everyone showed up.

The neighbors ol' Blonde Lab is pushing 15 now. My boy is 12, so they pretty much grew up together. Like brothers. Family of the blonde say he's slowing down at home, potty issues, hard getting up and down, can't do steps anymore. If my boy and I are out messing around, the old man comes over and they run around like they were pups again 12 years ago. Really something to watch....you can just see the respect and love. My boy always gives the old man the right of way. If they're chasing a tennis ball, my boy lets him get it. He will stop short just to let him have it.

Too warm for the wood stove, so he's reverted back to his spot next to me on the couch.

Annual vet visit tomorrow. Last years 1st try didn't go so well (have a thread somewhere about it). Got a bath last night, I picked up his sedatives and some special treats today. I'll drug him tomorrow morning and then again in the afternoon, ought to be really out of it tomorrow evening.

Hope the sedatives work for your pup. They made my little witch even more difficult to handle than without the meds.

It seemed to mellow him, but it was tough to say as it was so soon after the bad experience. Long story short, due to restrictions I wasn't able to go inside for several appointments, something happened and his attitude changed at the vet.

I called Friday to confirm the appointment and requested the vet tech that he saw on his first visit, I think he secretly loves her.

What I really like about Lucy is she is like the "Standard American Dog". She's obviously a shepherd mix and the gene pool in her is so big it's likely she won't have any breed specific health issues like more pure bred dogs will.

She reminds me of my childhood dog, "Slipper" - yeah, weird name. When I was kid we went camping with a family whose dog was "Sock", When we got my dog as a puppy I named him Slipper - I was only 7.

Side note: My nephew's new puppy is also a "Standard American Dog" who looks just like yours though shorter hair and they named her Lucy too. She's a great little pup.

Marginal success...he started out ok, then got scared of the lift table. Vet tech reached over him and that set him off. The Vet, tech and I spent some time giving treats trying to get him calm. She then took him outback and was able to get his vaccination and basic exam done, but receptionist came around the corner and startled him into growling so no blood draw.

2nd dose of sedation kicked in at 6pm and he could barely stand, at that point he was understandably irritated. I had to help him in the truck where he promptly went to sleep.

We agreed that I'll stop in occasionally for treats and pets, and next appointment they'll grab him from the lot and take him right back solo as that seemed to work.

Out cold now:
