Just found this thread, and I'm digging it. I grew up with cats. I always liked dogs, but never had one until 2003. Now I'm a total dog ***** and I understand what you "dog people" have been saying all along about man's best friend.
All of ours came from rescues & shelters. Used dogs are the best!

Cooper (named after the car), our first. 2003-2010 Border Collie mix. He'd go everywhere we did. Always on guard duty.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=77826&d=1284696476

Claire, Vizsla mix. My girl. Won't go near the garage. Doesn't even like the basement.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=77827&d=1284696476

Nelson (named after me, in a derivative sort of way), full Great Dane. Will go into the garage if invited, but otherwise not. Visits my in the basement workshop a lot.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=77828&d=1284696476

Rion (named after the star constellation Orion, not by us), German Shorthair Pointer/American Bulldog or Mastiff mix. He'll hang out in the garage or workshop to watch whatever I'm doing.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=77829&d=1284696476

Chloe, AmStaff pit pull. Doesn't give a flying fig about being anyplace but the couch, her cage, or oddly enough, the animal control truck (which she loves to sit in).
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=77830&d=1284696476

Vincent, American Pit Bull Terrier. He'll go anywhere I am. He hangs out in my basement workshop with me a lot. Loves to watch what I'm doing whilst sitting on my lap. Even if I'm standing.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=77831&d=1284696476

Plus there are the babysat dogs, visitor dogs, fosters & transports. And the cats. And the rats.
The ironic thing is that they've pretty much consumed most of my free time for a number of years, so that I haven't been doing shop or car work, but now that they are older (the youngest is 3), and respond to verbal commands and hand signals, I can just take them with me when I go do some work.

Neil

Here's Moxy who'll be 11 months next week. She's terribly mischevious at times but always so lovable. She was born with a severe heart murmur and the vet said she'll live a shortened, but pain-free life. We're glad to be the ones who have gotten her as she's going to get the happiest five years a dog could ask for.

This is Butch the Blue Healer. Had him since he was 8 weeks old...now he's 6. Spent the first few years of his life riding around in the truck with me. Best dog I ever had - pretty mellow, smart as hell. Everybody tries to adopt him - my Dad tries to keep him every time I visit.

This is Maddie. She's ah....special. She came from the shelter and was very antisocial. Now she actually likes people...if they're not strangers. Totally alpha dog...she's pretty agro...actually fearless. I watched her chase an attacking 70 pound pit all the way over a six foot fence a while back. Oh yeah, she might weigh 34 pounds on a good day. But she's a good watch dog and very loyal...she'll sit in my lap all day as long as I keep petting her.

Here is my shop foreman and union stewart, Matoska and Kolaluta. They're the Brothers Chow. Matoska (Lakota for "White Bear") and Kolaluta (Lakota for "Red Friend") will be 2 years old January 2nd and are from the same litter. They go nuts when they hear the dually fire up, because they think they're getting to go camping!!

The large and the small of it....

My youngest has wanted a Chihuahua for a couple years now. His favourite book is about a Siamese cat that thinks it's a Chihuahua. When our 13 you American died :( I said "No small dogs" and got the Golden (there's went the shoes and stairs!). But ever since he kept asking (OK begging) and this 3 yo came up for adoption. SO we added Tito to the family.

Well I dont have a dog or a cat. I do have a chicken that hangs out in the garage when he's not out traveling.

Here he is enjoying this thread...

And here he is at Bonneville Speed Week this summer...

I belong to another forum, 67-72chevytrucks.com (love them trucks) and right now Bonni the chicken is in the process of visiting as many members as possible. So far he's been to North Carolina and Texas.

He is visiting some NW members of the board now and will soon be off to who knows where. I just draw names of people that wanna participate. Looks like he will be spending some time in Europe and Australia too...If their names get drawn =)

Hey CG, Did you get to make it down to our All Truck Nations last weekend? You're club had a great showing of trucks!

I second that. Way to go, guys!

I tried to adopt a rescued dog a few weeks back. We ready to bring her ( a 3 year old Female Saint Bernard) home with us, BUT after we filled out the paperwork, they didnt bother to do anything. Did not call the refrences they wanted, do the home inspection they said they required, or even call us to explain why we couldnt adopt her. Now they wont return our calls. Some rescue Group... Try to do the right thing...

Buddy is 4, kind of a strange dog. Pound had no idea what he is. I have a thing for brindle dogs. He's short and fat, the sloppest eater I've ever seen, has a head like a brick and a mouth like a bass. And he's the best friend I've ever had.

Oh man, very sorry to hear about the loss of Hoover. I can fully relate; I lost my best friend of 14 years, Dudley last year too. I held "Duds" in my hands at 6 weeks old and I was stroking and talking to him to his last moment. He was my never-to-be-forgotten best friend and I hope to see him again at the end of MY days.

What are their names, Shorty? Are they Bloodhounds? They kinda look like it from that shot.

She's realy my wifes dog, but has grown to be "ours" over time, especially since my wife started filling in at the office. So now Chloe (a 5 Y/O Whippet) comes to work with us everyday (can't leave her home or she gets into too much trouble)
She hangs with me in the shop when the wifes out running errands / getting lunch.
The best part is she (the dog - not the wife:bounce:) is a perfect judge of character and lays under the desk lightly growling when she hears people come in that we know are ***holes / idiots / PITA's -- one of which is our most disliked coworker:thumbup:

We ave 3 more dogs and 2 cats at home. But no pic's now, though.

Left to right: Max the Rhodesian Ridgeback, Molly and Mandy the weiners. Mandy loves the garage and rides on the mower with me. Molly's too fat, and doesn't last long in the Texas heat. Max is huge now and gets into all kinds of trouble on a daily basis.

This is my boy. He's not my only dog, but he's the only one that I trust in the garage. He's border collie... and something bigger as well. Smart dog.

He's content to crawl under the kwiklift and watch me work. He's also broken into the garage twice.

Once he ate the deadbolt off the door (What was I thinking, $18 kwikset deadbolt? Can't even keep a dog out!)
the other time he unwound the wire on the foundation vent and crawled in. How a 65lb dog got through that, I don't know.
