My time with these two has come to an end.

IMG-6276.jpg

The ******* the left, Maggie, is a couple of years older and is always the leader in pretty much everything they do together. As in, first in or out of the door, first to be fed, first to be leashed up, first to get into her bed, first to go toilet....................

The ******* the right, Tilly, well she is always looking for reassurance, be that her companion or me. She also needs more affection than the other. And because Maggie inhales her food so quickly, I couldn't just feed them and walk away, I had to separate them to give Tilly a chance to eat her ration, again looking to me for reassurance.

WHY has it "come to an end"? Did they pass away? PLEASE tell us you're not giving them away, an obviously bonded pair. Such sweet pups.

Oh, ok. They were "loaners"! Just like my two pups when we went on vacation. They were at my girlfriend's sister's house 7+ hours away. That was ok-ish BUT our dogs came home with fleas!

As far as I know my dogs have NEVER had fleas since I've had them. I use Frontline on them monthly in the summer months. Took them to be groomed before we dropped them off. Then I treated them with Frontline again and took them to be flea bathed again! I don't think it worked that well. I sprayed the hell out of the yard too. I've washed all bedding, done everything I can think of.

Day after tomorrow I will re-apply Frontline on them (since I have it already!) and I will re-spray the yards again too. The idea being 10 days between treatments to get adult fleas but also eggs, pupa, larvae, whatever other damn flavor they come in!! PS: I HATE my pups suffering a flea.

I was house sitting for one of my gardening clients while they went on vacation. Ends up being half the price for me to house sit and look after the dogs than putting them in boarding kennels. Considering I've known these two since they were puppies, it's probably better for them to be around someone they already know.

Despite working for them for 20 years, this was my first time house sitting. I didn't even consider it in the past as I was just so weighed down with stress and work. In my entire time working for them, they have always had two golden retrievers. I've seen many come and go during that time, some passed from old age or cancer.

Bonnie was one of my favorites, she was quite old when I started there. She would often come up to help me with the weeding, waiting for me to put something in my bucket and then took it back out again.

Quincy (below) cut the deepest as he was such a handsome, lovable soul, the best natured dog you could hope for. Being so big and strong, he ripped the leash out of the owners hand in pursuit of a rabbit. Never to be seen again.

Beautiful, beautiful pups. But the line in your entire post that jumped out at me was the, "...never to be seen again" line. That REALLY kills me. I couldn't stand losing one of my beloved pups. I'd be waay over-the-top in my efforts to find them.

Trust me, efforts were high in trying to find him, even I was called out. I suspect someone found and kept him, they are quite a valuable breed. He was tagged and microchipped, so the owners could have been found if someone wanted to. I think you can piece together what I'm implying there.

I've lost mine for a day, only tracking his way home after being hit by a car. It was the worst day of my life and it breaks my heart thinking about how anxiety ridden he would have been, he's such a clingy boy that being without someone he knows would have been hard. He recovered, but it was long and hard due to the Covid restrictions at the time.

Poor poochie boy. In a lot of ways they're like little children. They trust completely - even when they have (*******) abusive owners - pardon my vulgarity, but there's no other word for someone who would abuse an animal.

Both my mother and I are cut from the same cloth when it comes to animal cruelty, we can't even watch a film or TV program where a dog passes away without falling to pieces. I just can't bare to see dogs being abandoned or mistreated, its such a betrayal of their trust and loyalty. Quite often, I'd much rather the company of a dog than certain humans.

I could not agree more. I am part of this online petition group called Animal Victory, almost every other day i get a petition to sign for this group going to bat for some poor animal who some scumbag hurt (or killed) intentionally. Breaks my heart every time i have to read the story of what happen to this poor animal, but then i sign and add my name to the petition and this group goes to the court date and provides all of it to the Judge. They provide updates with that piece of scum's court hearings as well how they were convicted.

I think you're in pretty good company with that comment. The betrayal is it. It is the worst. All they want is to love, and be loved.

Mine have all been rescued. I've got boxes of ashes all around me from a lifetime of loving dogs, and as important, having them love me, often when I was unlovable.

My 3 legged wonder dog, Buddy, was dumped in some city in Kentucky, hit by a car, ran around for months with one leg flapping in the breeze, nobody could, or would catch him. Thank God, and I mean that, someone finally did, and he ended up in Canada minus the leg. Another 6 months waiting, and I saw him. I had lost my special needs, rear paralized epi dog earlier in the year, and was looking for a special needs dog. Turns out, there isn't much special needs about Buddy. Go go go.

We don't hear a lot about all the great stories it seems, but the news dives on the cruelty ones. Bad news, cruel news, seems to sell. I never, ever read or watch any of that stuff. I'd be in danger of a heart attack. I'd rather use that energy to help where I can, and take good, loving care of my furkids.

Buddy is a good helper with the firewood too. ;)

Camping sounds like more fun the mowing!
Don't like doing either when it's 90F plus outside:LOL: Boy is 12 now, can't quite make that leap anymore. Needs a little boost. You can tell it bothers him. Cooling off gradually, and with the kiddos going back to school means empty state parks and campgrounds soon.

This is Duke. He puts up with me and is my garage companion. My wife can't stand him. Sometimes that makes me like him more. He's good with most things that make noise except the grinder. I think it is a combination of the sparks and the noise. When I weld he doesn't seem to mind. He didn't use to like riding in the car but now that I have taken him on several trips from Ohio to Alabama and back I think he has gotten used to it. He runs at the chance to go for a ride to the local HD.1000054770.jpg
