This is Duke. He puts up with me and is my garage companion. My wife can't stand him. Sometimes that makes me like him more. He's good with most things that make noise except the grinder. I think it is a combination of the sparks and the noise. When I weld he doesn't seem to mind. He didn't use to like riding in the car but now that I have taken him on several trips from Ohio to Alabama and back I think he has gotten used to it. He runs at the chance not to go for a ride to the local HD.1000054770.jpg
My Wife couldn't stand Junior, God rest his soul, and he couldn't stand her. I guess that's how it works sometimes.

She bought this collar for him for Christmas one year.

My dogs would pick pears, tomatoes and grapes from the source. Always found pure evidence later even though they denied any knowledge.

45 years back our Junkyard German Shepherd X Wolf mixes would strip an ear of corn off the plant, pin it down with both paws, rip the husks back with their teeth, and then nibble of the fresh corn kernels, and they would get every one of the kernels too

So crazy hot in LA. My pups are NOT "Labradoodles". They're doodles mixed with whatever breed does NOT like water! They never get in the pool but today was so damn hot I put them in and their paddling rinsed them pretty good and definitely cooled them off.
Fifi (larger, more poodle-ish) got a serious case of the zoomies afterward - even though it was well over 100*. She was dry in 10-15 minutes. Max (the miniature terrorist) HATED getting wet and didn't like her zooming around much either!

This is what food time looks like with these two.....................

IMG-6905.jpg

Maggie inhales her food in less than 30-seconds, Tilly likes to take her time and needs reassurance before digging in. This is problematic because given the chance, Maggie will hoover up Tilly's food as well. Hence them being separated until Tilly finishes.

No offense to the wife, but she did not know what she was missing with that pup. I love all dogs but GSD's have a special place in my heart, and he looked like a good companion pup.

Spent most of the day with my little buddy. First, he came with me to work while a serviced a client's chipper shredder. While I worked, he got to play with my two temporarily adopted golden retrievers. Then we went off to the small engine shop for parts, followed by a trip out to the resource recovery centre to deposit a container of waste oil, then a quick stop at the auto store for some supplies.

After finishing the service, we got back in the car and headed to one of our favorite walking tracks. Being so close to spring, the Wattles are in full bloom.

Being an old man now, he was naturally all tired out after our day out.............................

I guess they're literally being kept "at bay" 20-30 of those nasty creatures kept trying to come ashore right next to our camp. Boy was having no part of it. We left for an hour and came back and they were all around on land. Had to hold him on the long lead and let him force them back into the water. Oh how I wanted to turn him loose:rolleyes: Could have had roasted goose breast on the spit.

I love ALL dogs, big ones, little ones, it doesn't matter. They're ALL better should than almost any person.
But I gotta tell you your dog is wicked cool looking in this shot! He kinda looks like a cartoon of a super hero dog. The colors just add to the look. Go Otto GO!

Many years ago I adopted a Norwegian Elkhound from a shelter. His coat was extra thick and full. Vet said he was likely used to living in a very cold climate. He said, "Maybe someone on vacation lost him". Anyway, one day I took him to my local park that had LOTS of ducks on shore. I let him loose thinking he'd just scatter them all to hell.

Instead he ran full speed toward them and just before he got to them he cut one way then circled around the other way til he'd gathered them into a tight group, quacking like crazy and pushed them toward the water. It was SO cool and I would have had no idea whatsoever how to train a dog to do that much less an Elkhound which I NOT a herding dog at all. They're not a "bird dogs" either. He didn't live long. He got ill and passed away about a year later but he was a truly great dog.

I've always read that among other skills that elkhounds were herding dogs. Yours sure sounds like he showed that.

The only place where I've seen any indication was with my first elkhound Tanya. When swimming with another dog she kept circling the other dog & nipping near her cheek, keeping her in the water. The other dog was much larger & not especially fond of swimming.

As for birds, Tanya was the only dog I've ever had that could catch birds. Not sneaky like a cat, but in a full on barking charge. The birds would take flight & Tanya would jump & catch them in the air. She was incredibly fast.

That's every day at my house. As long as they're having fun and not eating the furniture, I'm fine with the mess.

That's my view of it as well. I even feed him political paraphernalia come election time, he seems to enjoy tearing those up as much as I enjoy watching him do it. And doesn't he look pleased with himself.........................

There have been a few casualties over the years though.....................

One night I walked into the kitchen and could hear something in the adjoining living room. I looked down and could see my little black doggie had turned himself into a white little doggie. He had somehow plucked a 1 kg (2.2 pound) bag of flour from the pantry, dragged it onto the living room rug and proceeded to eat said bag of flour. Of course, he had flour all over the carpet and himself. I just wish I had taken a photo because, on reflection, it was quite a funny sight. At the time I was naturally quite annoyed and priority one was getting him out of the way to clean it all up, photos were not top of mind.
