She's always in the garage with me, pushing her ball under my creeper or feet:mad: She will fetch a ball 24/7. I'll do party tricks at night and throw her ball over the house, release her and my bud's are amazed when she comes back a few minutes later with the ball in her mouth. Great hunter, companion, and family dog. My kids, along with the kids in the neighborhood can just torment her and she just enjoys the attention.

Part of me hates this thread as it makes me realise how much I miss my old mongrel Mutley. The other part of me loves it and keeps coming back because it reminds me of all the good times Mutley and I had. When I retire I will definitely get another.

Last vet visit he was 181lbs.

W had a Fawn colored English mastiff that was 283# when he was 5yrs old. He had great bloodlines and his head was as big as a pumpkin. English mastiffs are great dogs. I have had 12 of them over the years and have had nothing but positive experiences. They are very laid back dogs. with a good nature. I currently have a 186# Apricot female. She is almost 7yrs old. I will try to get some pictures up soon.

My Boxer always wants to be out in the Garage with me...Even with this Crazy Heat Wave that we are having.
She lays on a Blanket on the floor and watched me Block Sand a Chevelle all day.

Thats OK, dont get up!

greybeard the std. poodles are great dogs we have 2

When my wife and I were both working - we always had two Standards. They kept one another company when everyone else was gone for the day.

I got Max as a puppy when I retired - - - so in effect, I'm now the other dog around here! My wife keeps me - to keep Max company while she is at work.

Best dog I've ever had, far smarter than me:bowdown:

Living now with my 4th Standard - - I don't believe that Max is actually smarter than me, I don't fall for every one of his tricks {although I sometimes do let him think I did}. Max just seems smarter because in the 10 years we've been together - I've never heard him say any of the purely stupid things I've said - nor has he done any of the purely stupid things I've done.

Humm.... maybe that is why my wife thinks Max is smarter than me. Nonetheless I know how you feel.

FWIW,
Carl B.

Here is a recent one of my pooch.

Now 2 years old, Duke the Plott hound.
Regardless of the task, he is always around, "helping" in one form or another :)

Here he is just last week. I spent about a week up at our property building a small cabin.

Also note the bald spot on his right armpit.

dukecabin02.jpg

No more than 10 hours prior, he required 8 stitches. 5 in his shoulder, and 3 under his neck. From what I can tell, he tangled with a VERY mean sticker bush out in the woods. I used a pair of vise grips to remove two 1" long thorns that were imbedded into his scalp more than 1/2" inch.

Oddly enough, he didnt whine, or even limp. My wife just noticed him licking his leg enough to warrant a closer look. One tough pooch. :wtf:

Its a good think I always carry a sutcher kit. Otherwise this would have meant a 2+ hour drive into town to see a vet.

Jesse is full grown now, but I've always liked these pics of her "discovery" days.

This is my best buddy in the world Cooper. He is a Golden Retriever and is now 9 months old. He is not a very good helper but he is entertaining.

Here is our sweet little girl about a month after we brought her home from the shelter. As you can tell by my avatar and the "dog tag" on her, we are just slightly into Mopars :lol_hitti ...so of course her name is Hemi.

IMG_0654.jpg

My wife was taking pics of the pond one day and Hemi just went out there and layed down.

We couldnt have got a better dog. She hasn't chewed, made a mess, ran off, or anything since day one.

I love a good rescue story, maybe the very best things I hear in life actually. How old was Hemi when you brought her home and how old is she now? She was, and is, healthy?

Nothing like the feeling of bringing a dog home from a rescue or shelter, you get an awesome companion for life. All of my dogs have been rescues. I don't understand why somebody would buy a dog when so many are waiting to make somebody happy in shelters all over the place. (And I know there's usually fees involved.) But, to each their own, I just love to see dogs getting good care and a great family no matter the situation.

I would have to agree with you balane, rescue dogs make excellent companions, more people should look into them before "buying" a dog.

The top pic was when she was 8 months old, the shelter told us she was shy and timid. When we went and looked at her in the shelter and took her outside we could tell she wanted to go home with us. We couldn't take her home with us that day because she had to be spayed before we could take her. When we took her back inside to the pen, she just leaned up against the wall as if to say, please don't make me go back in there. Broke our hearts!

She is healthy today at 4 years old and the best friend you could have. We take her everywhere we can. I forgot to mention that the vet says she is a Lab/Brittney mix.

This isnt my dog.. "Oliver" is owned by my Aunt and Uncle and is treated exactly like one of the family members. He loves to play and bark nonstop till you pay attention to him. Last time I saw him I was sleeping in the guest bedroom.... I heard the downstairs door shut... split second later I heard him run up the stairs and into my room! I had to think quick and throw the covers over me! He jumped on top of me and all over the bed.. barked a lot and ran down stairs. I thought it was over so I poked my head out from under the covers and I heard him run back up the stairs again! That dog has no clue how good he has it. He gets to run around on 30K acres of land... my aunt and uncle wrap presents up for him on X-mas.. What a life!

Here's Sunny the cockerspaniel. I'm amazed at how protective he is of our children, didn't think the breed would be like that. He likes to visit the garage and thankfully he doesn't leave any surprises on the floor.

He's still young too.

Here's Isis around 9 months old - she's finally starting to grow into her paws/legs, and actually stands a really good chance of being a well behaved dog if we can get some basics through her thick skull:

Here's my Micro Border Collie. Actually a Long-Haired Chihuahua but she doesn't know it or act like one of those yappers so we won't let her know she is a yapper. Very friendly and loves to greet everyone.

lbrowne - your Cocker Spaniel looks like my one I lost a little over a year ago. Sweetest dog ever. I never heard her growl in the 14 years I had her, she only barked maybe 4 times in her lifetime.

Here's my garage dog...Chili. Of course at 1 year (next week) he's still getting things into his mouth that don't belong. On top of that, he notices ANYTHING new in the garage and rats me out to the Mrs.! We'll have to work on that.

Here he is discovering his first snow. That's what happens when you drop your treat!

I just love all of your dogs and I love the fact they all look very well taken care of and important parts of your families. There's nothing they wouldn't do for you if they could. I wanted to do some volunteer work at a local shelter so I went in to talk and take a look. I'm just not strong enough to deal with it. My heart was broken for a long time after I left, I know if I stayed there I would end up getting in trouble with the city police for owning too many animals. Honestly, for what it's worth you all have my deepest respect as great human beings. Many dogs out there didn't get so lucky and find good people to love them. Every dog taken in makes a difference so thank you very much.

Edit: My wife and I do work with a local, private shelter. We donate food and time and try to help steer people looking for a dog to a good shelter. Private shelters do an amazing job and save a lot of wonderful animals. http://www.petfinder.com is an excellent resource to locate your next best friend.

Here's Tank. He's a 5 yr old English bulldog. We adopted him from a cousin last year. Pic is outdated. He's since had the the cherrie eyes removed. No matter how many times we pushed them back in, they immediately popped back out. So, far no issues with his tear ducts after surgery.
