Librarian.... Favourite book is Pride and Prejudice, lol

Sara, Simon, Sahsa, and Darcy.

I voted for Sherlock to keep the S theme. He came to us as "Hemingway" because he has 6 toes on each back foot.

In remembrance of Chewbakka

Our much loved Chewbakka at 13 years, showing that he can do without his walker. He had injured a rear leg when he was about 5 and we thought he would never walk. But, after three operations, he did.

He suffered a similar injury after an enthusiastic pirouette when he was 13, and I thought it would be impossible for him to recover at that age. We and he persevered, we got that walker so his legs woudn't atrophy, and he walked again! What a brave dog.

He passed away not long after. He loved us so. We miss him.

Chewbakka recovering.

Here is a photo of Chewbakka when he was still unable to stand up or use the walker. We used the cart to bring him from the house to the yard. He'd lay on a blanket which we would then use to hoist him on and off the cart. He never complained.

Miss Jane, she is our little mess and a whole lot of fun. 17mo Pitt/Boxer rescue.

This was from the first weekend we got her, helping me in the garage.
IMG_3824.jpg

She was looking cold and confused so I tucked her in with some shop blankets.

Man, she used to be so small.

The first is a pic of my gal Desi. I lost her in January after 13 wonderful years. Second pic is one of my choice of pups at 3 weeks. I'll be picking her up in June. A new monster!

Here a couple pics of of our pups. All three of them. They are the best kind of dogs, pure bred mutts from the local shelter. The two fury ones are 8 and 9 yrs old. The bald one is 2. His mom brought him home with out asking me but I'm pretty attached now.

This is Ace he is about 2.5 years old now and is 100-110 lbs. He is a chocolate lab/chesapeake bay retriever mix. He tries to climb under the dash while I'm working there. If I'm under the car he has tried to crawl under with me. I've tried to tell him that he is too big to fit with me. He doesn't agree with that.

This is Ace's sister Coco, she is 89 lbs. She isn't as pushy as Ace... Most of the time.

I'd posted earlier, but since then I had to put down one of my dachshunds. :( She got immune mediated hemolytic anemia, which is a fancy way of saying I lost my dog and 5 grand in vet fees. But, we've since added a new garage dog, who just turned one year old. A bit bigger than the doxie, and makes an interesting sight when following around her "big" sister, the other doxie. Anyway, my dobie . . .

Andrew, you live in Queens? I'd figure laws there would be super strict concerning "agressive" breeds (bad rap, if you ask me) like a pit bull. She's a beautiful girl and looks very happy sitting there in the grass.

At the track Darby is my pit boss and routinely we walk the track before an event so he can advise me on the driving line.

Here he is at MOSPORT last weekend. This shot was taken after he told me not to leave rubber like this on the front straight. Following his advise, I didn't.

These are my two pups...
IMAG0132.jpg

The landseer newfie is Bowser. He is a very smart dog and actual in the process of certifying as a search and rescue dog(he smells dead people lol). We got him 3 years ago as soon as the breeder let us take him.

The Olde English Mastiff is Lola. She is not as smart as Bowser, but she is incredibly affectionate....almost to the point she thinks she is a lap dog. We got her a year after Bowser so he would have a companion while we were at work. And it just so happens that their birthdays are 20 days apart.

They arent really garage dogs cause its tough to keep an eye on both of them, but they do know when someone or something comes on the property.

Beautiful Lab R1chy, looks just like my boy!

Thanks, have you posted a picture of your Lab?

Darby is our second Lab (Kirby was almost 17 when she passed away). Darby hangs with me most everywhere and loves to go to the track with me.

He likes it best when I can position the rig so he can watch the track out the front window and is always happy to see me come in from my session. I've been tempted to strap in him and sneak him out for a run, but I'm sure the corner workers would black flag me.

Wow. My lab is 13 1/2 and close to done. 17 is an extremely long life for them.

Nice looking dog BTW.

Here's mine......

100_0387.jpg

Man, that's true.

Dudley - the reason I started this thread years ago now (Hard to believe) lived until just after 14 and he was in bad shape the last year or so. I LOVED him like crazy. Petted him and spoke to him softly til the end. It broke my heart. But I'll not let my current lab, Sooner linger too long if he's in pain.

I'm not saying your did that with a dog that lived to 17, just remarking that I'll swallow hard and let my much loved pet go before they are there for me instead of for themselves.

Dudley (Rest in Peach, my boy) and Sooner, now about to turn 9:

...Dudley - the reason I started this thread years ago now (Hard to believe) lived until just after 14 ...

Our previous Lab Kirby for a period had occasional seizures and she was a cancer survivor (our vet has a new wing financed by her treatments). Regardless she could out last us walking on the beach, in the Vienna Woods or up and down the Alps. She was even strong enough to walk two miles the day before we had to put her down, but we promised ourselves when the time came we could not, would not let her suffer. The vet said it was time, almost 17 and her body was starting to fail, with heavy hearts and tears in our eyes we sat with her as she slipped away.

We never saw ourselves replacing Kirby, she was a second mother to our son. I was an early subscriber to your thread and with all the great photo's and dog stories it made it really hard to be without a dog - something was missing. We gave it a year and when we were ready it was easy to rescue Darby - an internet picture of a sad looking heart worm infested dog tied to a chain link fence and within days of being euthanized. He is very different from the trailer queen, he is all boy and loves to roam the paddock at night checking out all the other cars.

I am a great fan of this tread. Been said several times before, it is amazing how many of us share and interest in garages and a love of dogs (or other pets). Thank you.
