Dennis has been in this thread before, about year ago. My best friend has grown up since then.
He likes to be close to me, but is not too comfortable with noise. So he's usually sleeps beneath the door in the background when I'm working. Every now and then peeks in to see what's rolling.

Nice mural.

Here are a couple from when my little guy Kota was a puppy hanging in the garage with me. He is now about 115#. We adopted another akita, Bella, two years ago and they are both my garage dogs. Bella is a little smaller at about 90#. Enjoy.

This is Brandi. We got her not quite 10 years ago. She's been one of the best dogs that I have ever owned. She's also been through a lot with her back legs and a botch surgery on one to repair a torn ACL. 24 hours later her other ACL went out so we had to have TPLO surgery done on it. But due to the other surgery the day before, they couldn't do anything with that leg to correct it. Those surgeries were in '05 I believe. Her right leg has muscle atrophy due to an infection. She slipped at the groomers the other day and has had a bad limp since. So we took her back to the vet on Monday just to make sure her hip wasn't out. We then found out she has bone cancer. The vet said she may have a month. You can tell she doesn't feel well. He told us that when the time came to do what I always hoped I would never have to do, that we'll know. I'd rather cut my arm off than have to do that.

Here are my three coming back from the sandbar. They love the water. I also attached a video with a great song. One of my Boxer's is seen at the end of it.

Hahaha love your boxers! I have now become a HUGE fan of the breed! How old are yours?

This was my best friend for 13 years. HANK--Catahoula Leopard Hound. I've had a lot of dogs in my time but this guy was something special. Herded horses and cattle and let the grand kids ride on his back and pick at his mouth while he slept and kept the boogie man at bay. Lost him a year ago next month.

The little scrapper Yorkie (Abner) aggravated the pooh out of Hank. Hank could have killed him with one bite but tolerated the little cuss

Kevin,
Sorry to hear about her troubles. Hang in there and take it a day at a time. Look at each day as a gift and try not to worry about tomorrow.

Here's Chili! I've posted pictures before when he was a puppy, he's now just over 2 yo. He's had a rough ride. He developed a condition called megaesophagus earlier this year, and later was also diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. At the end of August he dropped to 55 lbs and lost most of his energy. It was at that point I started preparing myself for the end. Since then he has gained 10 lbs (first time all year he's gained a pound) and seems to have found his way back from the edge. He eats and drinks in this chair every day. Gravity gets the food and water to his stomach. The doctors are still experimenting with prescription diets and steroids to find a sustainable plan for him, but he's a trooper! He puts up with all the silly little antics we put him through. As long as it involves him getting food, he doesn't care what we ask him to do!

RKA, glad to hear that your dog is starting to gain some weight. They are amazing and as long they have the will to live, just do your best to help them live the best life possible. I have a beagle with allergies that have made just finding a food she likes and can eat job in itself.

The two males are three years old and the female (pictured with the orange Harley Davidson collar) is a little over a year. The male without the collar is a rescue. He went from living in a small outside kennel being starved to death, to having the run of the house and sleeping in the master bed. When we go to the sandbar, I have to take his collar off because the female wants to constantly bite at it to pull him around.

This is Kevin. Found her on the streets, judging from her health and appearance she had been homeless for a long amount of time. She's great though.

Kevin,
So sorry to hear of Brandi's struggles. When the vet told me that Hank(pictured below) had cancer and that he probably had about a month or two and suggested that I put him down, I rejected the idea without a thought. Hank lived for another year. Although he had some bad days, most of them were good and he was happy. This picture of him was taken about a week before I put him down. Although he lost quite a bit of weight, he never showed any sign of being in pain.

One thing you might want to keep in mind Kevin. When THAT TIME comes, Brandi will be depending on you to be strong and spare her any unnecessary discomfort. That is when she will need you the most. You have my best thoughts friend.

Thank you. I know that I'll have to be strong for her. But you know, the older I get, the harder it gets to do that deed that everyone hates to do. We get animals that no one else wants. Our cats we either got from the pound, or were strays that just showed up. Brandi's sister was a Collie that we got from the Animal Shelter. The shelter said that they found her along the road and she was maybe 6 months old. I think she came from a breeder and just wasn't good enough to keep around. She had the typical hip dysplatia that is common for that breed. She was maybe three or four when we got Brandi and immediately Nikki (our Collie) started to mother over Brandi. Those two got along great. Sadly, two years ago we had to have Nikki put down. She started to wander off whereas she had never been out of the yard before. Then she started falling where she couldn't get back up without help. So I called the vet and he said to bring her right down. Our vet is a very compassionate person and I got choked up just speaking with him. He sounded more like a preacher than a vet at that time. He would give her a shot to put her to sleep, then another that would stop the heart where she wouldn't know at all and have no pain. I couldn't stay in the room to watch it but my wife did. I went back out to the Blazer where Brandi was. She has a stuffed duck she takes with her on rides. She brought her duck up to me and laid it in my lap, then laid her head down beside me. That in itself just brought tears to my eyes. Brandi knew what was happening. For the next month, Brandi slept in Nikki's bed for the next month.

The vet gave Brandi a shot of steroids the other day along with a scrip for pain meds. He told us that when the time comes we will know it as she'll start having bad diarrhea and will quit eating. In the meantime, she'll be pampered and made as comfortable as possible.

We were going to get a sister for her a month or so ago and had been looking, but nothing suited us and the time just didn't seem right. Now I know why the time wasn't right when we found this out. Brandi has a place waiting on the shelf in the house beside Nikki. We have our animals cremated and the ashed are in nice wooden boxes with a plaque with their date of coming into our life and the date of departing from our life along with their name and nickname.

Beautiful Golden, Best dog in the world if you ask me. I've had many since I was kid and they are as smart and loyal as they come. I have a 6yr old Male who couldn't be more spoiled, my wife was afraid he wouldn't bond with her, guess what He did:thumbup:. Still my dog though.

Kevin
Hang in there, losing a pet is never easy, its like losing a part of the family. With all your physical issues I'm sure Brandi was great comfort throughout your ordeals

Here is a pic of Hobey

Well, my daughters rescue dog, was pretty skinny when she adopted it at our county fair in August, but she's getting some meat on those bones now. My Daughter named her Peaches. Mostly Golden Retriever with some Australian Shepherd according to the shelter staff. She is not yet a year old and seems to need something in her mouth constantly! lol She seems to have adopted the shop since she can usually find something to chew up or chew on. Her favorite thing seems to be shredding blue shop towels, doesn't eat them, just rips then into tiny pieces and leaves a pile, I thought I had rats for a while! lol

Nice looking head on yours - you work him/her? What lines if you know? I'm heading to France in a few months to buy a couple more for ringsport.

This is Ace and his sister Coco crashed out in the kitchen. Ace seems to think that if I'm under the car or under the dash that he needs to join me. He just doesn't understand that we can't both fit.

This is Bella our newest addition. She is 9 weeks old here. Haven't exposed her to the garage just yet. Not sure my wife will be too happy if I steal her princess to hang out in the garage. But time will tell.

This is Elli my new garage dog. Here she's camping out at her bowls demanding more chow. She's about 12 pounds here but is on her way to 100 or so. She loves the garage, but thinks everything is something to chew on or eat at this point.

Fletcher Dog!

My rescued rhodesian ridgeback, plott hound mix. We've had him since April and couldn't omagine being wihtout him.

We also have a plott hound - a rare find up here. She's a gently, soulful dog and wonderful with the kids. She's a rescue so can never be off leash, but a great companion.

They all become such key ingredients in our lives.
