This is "Kirby".

Theoretically my wife's dog, but since I feed him, pick up his turds, wash him and let him out/in, he thinks he's mine.

He follows me around the house, camping outside the bathroom door when I take a dump.

My wife hates it when he goes out to the shop with me, because he gets so dirty, but he is immune to noise and tools, and compressors, and everything else he should be afraid of if he was smart.

I have to really watch when I move the forklift, because he'll just lay there while it is running.

Is your dog's name "DeWalt"?

It is now...

It makes sense as he's a one man wolf pack that tears holes through anything in his path.

His hobbies include:
-chewing on 4x4s
-sleeping
-eating
-drinking beer
-looking up women's skirts
-the end

Here is my now 11 month old lab Oakley. The picture is a couple months old. We haven't been able to work on a bunch of stuff together in the garage but he loves being out there. He also loves Bud Light and playing fetch with his pheasant dummy. Some days I wonder why I ever got him because he's a pain but most of the time I wonder what I'd do without him.

Hi Ben, I have updated the info in my profile, I live in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Fred, where does one get an ostrich bone, ( besides an ostrich)

From an ostrich actually, we just let the dogs out the yard and they go catch themselves one..........

Joking! It comes from a butcher, ostriches are farmed here, both for the fashion trade and for meat. The meat makes for good eating. I include some more information below for your interest

Nice family!
Thanks, my wife is a Ballet teacher and they have all danced from the age of 4.

I bet those girls have caused a few sleepless nights........

Hi Rambo

That picture was taken in 1996, so they have grown up and moved out by now. Yes, they had the fair share of male admirers but were on the most part quite sensible, although their were some exceptions. The worst was one Fathers Day when we woken by a phone call in the early hours of the morning. Youngest stepdaughter and her boyfriend had a single car accident on the way home from a party, writing off his car.

He was driving too fast, almost hit a street light in the middle island, swerved and skidded over a pavement, knocked down a good stretch of a 6 foot high garden wall, bounced off, then hit a tree and spun back into the middle of the road. We had to scoop up a tearful daughter, pacify an irate wall owner, etc etc and take her home. 3 sides of the car were stoved in and how they got out alive with just bruises and a few cuts is an absolute miracle.

Yes, booze was involved and there were some very stern words spoken later.

Cheers

Ostrich farming started in the Klein Karoo in 1864, just off the South-Eastern coast of South Africa, by chance when farmers started to farm with ostriches instead of crops after a massive drought period in the region.

They could do this successfully in this naturally dry region, since these tough birds feed off a certain grain and do not require grazing fields. The weather and geographical conditions in the Klein Karoo area are absolutely ideal for ostrich production – making Oudtshoorn the ostrich capital of the world.

These flightless game birds grow to a height of up to 2.7m, can weigh up to 160kg and produce an average of 60 eggs per year. One ostrich egg equals 24 standard chicken eggs.

Ostrich feathers are utilised for fashion items, such as boas, fringes and marabou. Whether plain or dyed, they also make fantastic feather chandeliers and are extremely popular as feather dusters. South Africa manufactures over two billion ostrich feather dusters per year.

The ostrich’s universally recognised quill socket leather is internationally sought after for producing exotic leather handbags, leather furniture pieces and even clothing items and shoes. Ostrich leather is supple and durable, and products made from ostrich leather are remarkably popular in Europe, the USA and Japan.

The health characteristics of ostrich meat makes it a sought-after alternative to conventional red meat – especially in European countries. Ostrich meat contains almost no fat and cholesterol.

From a farming perspective, ostriches are extremely versatile. From an ostrich, the leather (32% of income), meat (62% of income), feathers (6% of income) and eggs can be used.

This is my mate Zeus - 2yo purebred Black Labrador. He's a good puppy, doesn't run off, though his only issue is a love of black retic poly pipe.. seems to have mostly gotten over his digging habit

Peter,
If you go back 5(!) years to when I started this thread, on post #4 was my lifetime best friend, Dudley. He was a black Lab just like your beautiful boy and the best dog I've ever had, and I've had a few truly fantastic dogs in my life. Now that Sooner, my blonde Lab has matured, I'm truly in love with him and he's making a run at Dudley's record for greatest dog ever.

I've found that Labs are fully mature physically at one year but they're still juvenile til after two years. That's when Sooner totally stopped randomly eating my landscape plants, chewing my plastic pop up sprinklers, etc. He's as calm and sweet, and friggin SMART now as Dudley was. I'd bet almost anything that your boy will do the exact same thing. He'll just keep getting better and better. I doubt I'll ever have another big dog that isn't a Lab.

Said every Lab owner ever.

Refer to my post just above. Age two years plus is the magic age for Labs. They're smart enough to get themselves into all sorts of trouble and not QUITE smart enough to get themselves back out of it. Then at two, they just mature out to the greatest dogs ever in my experience.

Dan,
Yeah indeed. The family has had three labs over time.. they have always been good smart loving dogs. We got Zeus as our families first dog when our daughter was only just crawling and the his ability to be a complete idiot and yet avoid her is amazing(apart from a couple of times). She has no fear of him because there no need.
He's a great travelling companion as I usually drive back to home (900km) and the family flies.. nice to have him around and develop more of a bond
He's right now behind me snoring...

This couldn't be a Labrador trait, could it? Ha ha ha.

Look familiar? Dudley did it too. Nothing feels quite so good as their warm chin on your leg.

I see your lapdogs, and raise you two.

By the way, have I ever mentioned that my dog is smarter than you guy's dogs? I'm currently trying to teach him to read a slide rule :spit:

I have three (3) ferocious guard dogs.

Casey the rescue terrier

Jasmine, the sweet schnauzer

and Pearl, the spoiled Alpha Pug

If a burglar ever comes into my garage they will follow him around.

With out a doubt they are the best dogs, if you and said dog survive the first 2~4 years together.

Hi everyone.

Time to show you some picks of my "pack":four Rothweilers encharged of the security departement from both house and shop/garage!

The younguest: Vodka, a female 2 yo, daughter of Gim and Kitty(Kitty is not mine)

Allways ready to run after anything that moves...

Vodka's brother: Micha, aka the terror of football balls! One bite in the ball and BUUUM!

My oldest dog: Elektra.She's 10 yo now and she's Kitty's hunt/granny.
She dosen't like cameras, allways to busy keeping the perimeter!!!

Finally, Gim,the master incharged for garage survilance!
He's 11 yo, but I got him he was 3yo allready...He was "sentenced to dead", because previous owner coulden't kip him anymore and due to his "temper",no one whanted him: everybody feared him...
Luckely, I could them rescue him and today ,he becamed one off the most desciplineted dogs that I've ever met!OK, he has some "issues", but no one his perfect, wright(if you consider chewing stones an "issue")???

This picture was taken obviously after a long work shift, in a very hot day!!!
Hope you like them!
