She's a looker! I have 3 Shepherds and 1 Shepherd Collie mix and she looks a lot like my Charlie
We actually lost her this year. Had to put her down just a few weeks ago. She was 14 and a half years old. We were lucky to have had so much time with her. I have 2 more Labs, 8 and 10 years old. She was my 'one' for sure. 14 and a half is a good long run for a big dog, and we did a lot together. Lots of miles riding shotgun in the motorhome going racing. She loved the attention at the races! Every year I'd take her to the SCCA Solo Nationals. 1100 competitors, and almost a full week of racing. That's a lot of folks to pet your pup.
Enjoy your time with him. Every day is a gift.

Somehow yellow labs and racing just seem to go together.
Darby is track side for every race and is the best crew member I've ever had. I'm always greeted with a wag of his tail and a wet lick no matter how I do on track. If I could only get him a hot pass and teach him to take tire pressures in the pits I'd be set.

Lilly and the rest of her litter was found in the back of a junk yard, in a box when they were all about 4 weeks old. Rocky was found by my Sgt in the river bed by my work when he was maybe 1-2 weeks old (his ears were still closed and still didnt have the walking concept down). and Itty was a rescue from a family whos father was a drunk and would beat the dog just for fun.

While they will both go into the garage when there's no work taking place, it's a scary place with some of the noises so they avoid it when it's active.
What they specialize in is supervision of yard work. Yesterday was really nice outside and we trimmed some trees, cut the grass and spread some mulch all under their watchful eyes. For some reason they have no fear of mowers, weedeaters or chain saws and if I drive the truck up into the yard I have to make sure I know exactly where they are as I think I could drive right over them before they'd move.

As you can see they are keeping a close eye on things. Well at least such things as they can see without having to move from the shade.

Good on you for rescuing him, too many go abandoned after racing. Here's my best friend...Red.
We rescued him a few years ago and couldn't have asked for a better dog...
His racing days are over and spends most of his time on the couch or our bed, 85lbs of pure laziness these days...
Racing Record: 73 races/Grade A
1st - 10
2nd - 6
3rd - 7
Not too shabby...
My new shop dog...a cutie.

Is that a long haired miniature dachshund? I got my wife a mini-dox for her birthday (see post 2145), he will be 8 weeks on Sunday. He is a blast to play with, has all kinds of energy...
... and the weiner is...
As you can tell, Darby was excited to be on the podium.
Maybe a little too excited?
