This thread is cool. Other forums have a Hall of Fame section, If GJ had a hall of fame this one should go in there

Wow! I started this thread months ago after my lifetime best friend, Dudley passed away at 14 and just to show off my much loved, now 6-1/2 year old blonde Lab, Sooner....who loved Dudley and has done a great job since "Duds" has been gone.

I love seeing everyone's dogs and how they are in our lives but what I REALLY like is that no matter what our politics are, our interests, religion, race, etc, an UNDENIABLE, and un-argued American value is loving our pooches!

Great work everyone. Keep those pictures coming.

Here is Tank, my English Bulldog. He is not a fan of actually being inside the garage. All those loud machines scare him.

OMG how old is your german?

Here is mine in a recent picture from a week or so ago: They look just alike..all the same markings.
100_1784.jpg

Shelby is just over 11 weeks how. Her ears are finally standing up almost completely. We got her right at 6 weeks. They are so smart. By 9 weeks she was sitting, laying and shaking and was pretty well potty trained completely. She still has an occasional accident, but usually because we arent paying attention and shes sitting at the door.

My "real" shop dog's name was Senna. We had him for 13 years. he was the best dog I ever had. Unfortunatley he died before his time - hit by a car while we where on vacation......broke my heart.

sennainshop-1.jpg

So we got a Golden Retriever, thinking they where super smart and super social, good with the kids, etc. Well, after a year with her, I hate to say it, but she's the WORST:(! She still digs holes in the yard, takes off after other dogs when off-leash, bolts at rediculous times when just hanging out in the yard, has chewed the corners off the garage stairs, ate several pairs of everyones shoes and more. I'm not sure I'll make it to the 2 year mark....

The only dog in the house that answers to me, all of the others are my wife's show dogs, except "Arabica" aka Glentom Cocoa Mint Expresso

Not enough exercise, Goldens have a ton of energy and need physical activity. Leave toys for her everywhere so she chews on them instead of your stuff. Digging in the back yard, good luck with that but her being tired will help out with that

As much as i hate to say it, that all sounds like a training problem. We have had multiple goldens. They have never been in a fenced area and have never taken off and none of them have ever started digging or chewing.

Hah! Third Senna in this thread. Must be a great shop-dog name.

Best of luck with the rascally Golden.

This is one of my puppies at 1 year old. He's a bit bigger now. He's 1/2 Neapolitan Mastiff. My other dog is a Tosa-Inu that is solid black. They are both currently about 120 lbs. and still growing a tad. They are the friendliest dogs on the planet when we're around. If we're not home, you would NOT go in the back yard.

My first post to the board but I got to show off my buddy.
Country boy Deirks named by my fiance after Country signer Deirks Bentley. He's a rescue from Tennessee who is a little too smart for his own good.

I didn't give you enough info to infer otherwise, so it's OK... She gets walked morning and night, with off-leash time to run. She was easily trainable - took minutes to train her to sit, up, down, shake a paw, roll over.... she's great in the house, very docile, but hates to be alone, which is when the the chewing happens....but she has to be alone once in while.

The "bolting" happens when I'm training her "off-leash"...so not sure what to do there. Hopefully she'll calm down over time:headscrat

Some dogs don't do well by themselves. I hear it is a pack thing, and some dogs feel vulnerable when alone because the pack is gone. This may sound odd but you may want to get a second dog. Life got better for us when we went to two dogs. The two dogs keep each other occupied when we are gone and play with each other all the time so there is no separation anxiety or pent up energy. We have one male and one female. I hear same *** dogs can sometimes have issues establishing their pecking order.

I always tell people that two dogs are easier than one. Before we took the plunge, we watched a friends dog for a week while they were on vacation.

We do travel and camp allot with the two dogs, and it is not an issue either.

He was probably 3.5 months in that picture. 5.5 now. Ears still aren't up constantly. not worried about it though.

Daisy was supposed to belong to my daughter and son, but she won over the whole family. She never ceases to welcome you home and loves nothing more than to be around her family. She is 13 months old is probably going to top out at 7 lbs.

Thanks Chris!! And since I know that to be true - you just talked me into it. Mrs E-tek always wanted a Jack-Russell, so we're looking for one of those now!!

(As well, we have been having several of our neighbours dogs over to play with Nikki, in an effort to work her out. She absolutely loves other dogs...)

Dont think I'm telling you what kind of dog to get, because I'm not.

I was thinking of something more like a golden or a lab. They would have roughly the same laid back temperament. We watched a golden with our lab for a week and they were a perfect match. I never had one, but I understand that a Jack Russel Terrier is a extremely high strung and don't always get along with other dogs.

One way to find out for sure is via the "rent-to-own" program, a.k.a. foster a Jack Russel. If then you find him compatible you can adopt him, if not then you only have to care for him until someone else adopts him. In either case you'll help out a local rescue organization.

Just a thought, R1chy

Shoulda named Mildred, "Inaction Jackson":bounce:

Seriously, what's the REAL deal with Pitt bulls? There is SUCH a disconnect between the media sensationalization of them and what their owners say. Every person I've ever known that had one (and I've never known an inner city guy that was fighting them) says they are ultra loyal, intelligent and completely trustworthy with their own people.

As a side note, I own a 102 lb. blonde Labrador Retriever male. He looks EXACTLY like the dog in the movie "Marley and Me" and that's a real problem. People - not just kids - think he is like the Labs you see on commercials, movies etc. They walk right up to him and stick their faces down to his. BAD PLAN. He's as mellow as the breed is known for IF he knows you; but he is also as intellignet and loyal as the breed is known for too so he's suspicious if he doesn't know you and he can be aggressive if you make what he considers an untoward move toward me or my girlfriend - like walking up behind us, or walking up to us silently, or sticking your hand into "his" car where we are, etc. I bring this up because of the stereotyping dog breeds. He's a cute cuddly Lab, unless he decides to eat you a new one then he's STILL 100lbs of teeth and claws and it is stupid to act...well,...stupidly around him.
