Get a Portuguese Water Dog like the Obamas. Apparently they are a good dog for people with dog allergies.

Man, He's BEAUTIFUL. He looks so much like my dear departed lifetime best friend, Dudley. Dudley was a Black Lab and Dalmatian mix. Dudley lived to be 14 and there was never as good a dog as he was. I hope Duke turns out to be the same.

So far is has been an absolute blast to raise and enjoy. Super easy dog to train. I feel we really lucked out, getting a healthy and intelligent dog in a handsome wrapper

It is a sad day here. We had to put our dog down this morning. I let him out last night and he ran into some trouble. It seems he got in a tussle with some kind of animal and then got hit by a car. The car hit broke his RR thigh bone and pelvis. My wife and I made the tough decision to let him rest instead of subjecting him to the numerous surgeries and long recovery the doctor described.

The way things are going in this world, the more people I meet, the more I like my dogs... ha.

The black looks like your standard (if huge) floppy puppy and Thor, God of Thunder cannot stoop to be annoyed by mere humans.

Hey, seriously though I always heard Great Danes don't live much beyond 7-8 years. Is that overstated? Isn't 12 like incredibly old for a Dane? How's his health?

Though not really a garage dog as such,here's our Red Kelpie Dixie.Purebred,Runt of the litter,breeder gave her away.Because she is a working breed as a pup she was uncontrollable,so we sent her to a obediance school.End of story is we have the best dog i have ever owned.

That's how I feel about Labrador Retrievers. I've had two now and each was/is more intelligent and more loyal than any other dog I've ever had.

I love the look of Shepherds too; just not my style but beautiful dogs, no question.

Scary dog, huh? The reddish one is Duke, some sort of German Shepard / Chow mutt from the humane society. The other one is his cohort in crime, Penny. Austrailian shepard is the best guess we've had so far, also a rescue dog (no one wanted her because she's old, and old = half price. Happy Valintine's Day babe, I got you an old dog!)

You've got it. Watch out for the "ankle biters"!

Haley is a Dane and should be between 150 1nd 160. Her parents were 160 and 180.

As for THOR, he is VERY old for a Dane. He is my 2nd one and has been relatively healthy for a 12 year old. My first Dane, Sarah, lived to be 13!! I'm hoping Haley has a long life as well. As rule, a 9 year old Dane is OLD! Their hearts or their backs usually give out.

Today was the first day I had the dog in the garage. I ran the saw to see how he would react and he could care less. That's great but should I worry about his hearing? I know that theirs is a lot more sensitive then ours.

I was working on the woodworking shed (barn) a while back. It was raining. The golden retriever came in and laid down where the cut offs were landing. I was careful but several of them tapped him. He would just LOOOK up at me and lay right back down. He didn't even jump when the pancake compressor started up or the air nailer went off. He was just glad to be warm and dry.

That was several years ago. He still thinks that the "barn" is his doghouse.
