Bluwolf, that’s a great photo of the two dogs together, each on opposite ends of the size spectrum but still buds that get along.

Well, the little one was my neighbor's. She could be a little $h*t disturber. But Trooper was a get-along kinda hound. At the dog park he was known as the peace keeper. When a couple of other dogs looked like they were about to square up and fight, Trooper would just walk between them and stand there. That usually diffused the situation. He was also good with little children even when they climbed all over him.

Sounds like Trooper really was a “trooper!”Rest in Paradise Trooper til your loved ones can be reunited with you.

The rescue named him that because they didn't think he was going to make it. He was in the hospital for a month and a half after two guys carried him out of the Everglades. He had an abscessed snake bite on this head, his feet were torn to shreds, and a really nasty case of the mange. Along with a bunch of other cuts and gouges. And he only weighed 60 lbs. His normal weight was 105.

Yikes! Sounds like he truly was a survivor. Very very glad you took him, gave him health, a long life of affection and good treatment. He deserved it!

This was Trooper, 1/2 shepherd/ 1/2 Bloodhound. He was a rescue found in the Everglades, half dead. We lost him a week and half ago. He would have been 16 in a week. He was still going strong except for a brain tumor. God I miss him...

Wow, what a big handsome guy! He looked like a perfect mix, and sounds like a good mix of temperaments, too. Good on you for taking him in. 16 years is a long life for big breeds. My condolences on your loss.

That was all my wife's doing. There is a whole kitchen cabinet just for the dog's pills, potions, powders, and vitamins. And that doesn't include the healthy treat drawer. Or the first aid kit for the dogs that looks like it was made for an EMT. Us, we have a few Band-Aids in a bathroom drawer. Then there is the library of dog books including medical encyclopedias. Our neighbors and friends consult with my wife before they go to the vet. She's the type that actually understands what the vet is talking about.

Our Huskies lived to be 15 and 16 also. When I die and come back, I want to come back as one of her dogs. I can't complain, I'm treated like one of her pack so I've got it pretty good too. Right now she's focusing on our (her) Beagle. When she's ready, we'll rescue another big one.

This is Alice, she hates the workshop, only time she goes in is when I'm not there to look for chocolate wrappers. She is terrified of the bike, when I go anywhere near it she runs inside the house scared I'll start it. when I do start the bike she hides under the sofa, shaking. Soon as I stop the bike she rushes outside again and jumps up in my lap. Not sure whether she's trying to protect me from the scary thunder machine or asking me not to start it again.
After spending $15k trying to save her sight over three surgeries, she's all but blind now.

We had a chihuahua a few years ago. When ever the wife went out, he'd come out to the workshop and I'd have to lift him up and put him on a shelf near to where I was working. Everyday when I came home from work on my Triumph, he'd be waiting for me at the garage door. I'd have to pick him up and stuff him inside my jacket so he could ride with me up the driveway and into the garage, I also had to put a box on the ride on mower for him, so he could help me mow the lawns, otherwise he'd follow me around the yard barking at me, demanding he sit on my lap.

Just spent an hour looking at everyone's dogs and loved it! So many breeds, so MUCH love - lol!
We went though a couple dogs in the past 10 years - but my sons Chihuahua has outlasted them all (dammit anyways - lol!!). He's a cranky, cantankerous little ankle-biter that - at 19 this year - is making his way towards the RECORD for OLDEST Chihuahua (apparently 19.5 years). Here's a vid of the little **** in action - pushing our newest family member Danika (Patrick) around...

That is too funny, we had a dog name ET because he looked like ET when we adopted him until we fattened him up, but that was too long for our neighbors kids, so they called him T.

We had to put down 14 year old, Oly this morning. He was 1/2 GSD and 1/2 Doberman. A long life for such a big dog. He was found wandering in the desert as a small puppy, taken to a rescue and our son adopted him. Has never known anything but love and comfort and became a gentle giant loving toward all living things though he frightened people because of his size and huge bark. He will be sorely missed but especially to now65EA126B-8ABE-46C0-920B-E49D8AA68718_1_201_a.jpeg 7-1/2 year old grand daughter, Charlotte. From the moment she was brought home he watched her, slept under her crib, allowed her to use him to steady herself when she was too small to walk. He wouldn't move so she wouldn't fall.

Rest in Paradise, Oly. You have left a big big hole in many lives.

I'm sorry for your loss. He can hang out with Trooper. I'm sure they'll have a lot in common and a lot of fun together.

We had Garage Dog Visitors yesterday. A Berndoodle and little I-Don't-Know-What dogs. Fortunately both were very mellow and didn't respond to my new adoptees who are still learning socialization. After a couple barks and chases early on, all was well the rest of the day.

I was very impressed with the Berndoodle. He's an absolute horse yet mellow as could be. Our little newbie was snapping about his ankles and he didn't care at all. Doesn't shed.

Lost this guy last fall. Almost 14 years. Constant companion he was...
For me, Labs are the PERFECT dog. Yeah, they're friendly with everyone - some people don't like that, I loved mine. They shed, but they give more love & devotion than any other breed I've ever had. Very sorry to hear of your loss. Hopefully he and my lifetime best friend, Sooner (avatar) are running free in a giant meadow somewhere.

Haha she's had that toy since the day we got her, she has completely destroyed every single other toy she's ever had but that one.
