Lost my little buddy today and I'm heartbroken.

Joey was to be 15 in Feb. He seemed to be the healthiest he'd ever been. Full of energy, got the "zoomies" I call them running around full speed and wanting to play.

He stopped eating 7 days ago, couldn't even be tempted by his favorites: string cheese, graham crackers, milk from my cereal bowl, nothing at all but he'd drink a lot of water. He began vomiting bile more and more. What was really obvious is that he'd stand and stare off at nothing as though in a trance.

Took him to the vet today, ultrasound revealed nothing at all wrong internally but he was badly dehydrated and had lost 1/4 his body weight. Down to only 9lbs! She immediately noticed he was cognitively not there. Offered to rehydrate him and give meds to improve appetite but it wouldn't have done anything for the neurological event he'd had.

Absolutely breaks my heart to be writing this. I'm a total slob when it comes to my pups. We lost my mother-in-law at 100 yrs old last week as I posted elsewhere so I hope he goes to be with her. Rest in Paradise, my little buddy til I go to be with you (I hope). -Your Papa

Sorry for your loss. Poodles are great dogs.... smart, easily trained, and loving as hell. Cherish his memory.

Thank you. Joey will NEVER be forgotten. His collar is on my night table next to me every night and his name tag is on my key chain. He was a tiny little man but his devotion to us was huge. Rest in Paradise, my boy.

Trying to get back to normal - as if that's even possible - now that my little Joey has passed on (Post #4750).

Here's Fifi in her usual spot under the side table right next to where I sit watching tv. The little cross bar thing is the PERFECT height for her head rest. Like it was made for her. She found it the first day we got her and uses it every day.

A question for you guys:

My two dogs Fifi (just under 2 yrs old) and Max (5 or 6 we were told) are reactive when encountering other dogs when they're on a leash. They bark like crazy, pull my arm off trying to get at the other dog. Act like they're vicious so of course I don't usually approach as there other dog's owner is typically worried what my ifs will do. BUT, If I let them get close to the dog they wag and though excited they don't bite or act hostile but you'd never know it while they're barking.

At the dog park they get along fine with others. Especially Fifi. She runs and plays chase with the younger energetic dogs. Never any issues. Max sometimes will "bump" another dog that gets close with his snout, even nip if the dog doesn't back off but never truly bites or starts a fight. He'll do it with large or small dogs but not all dogs. No idea which he will react to(?)

PS: Fifi was a puppy when prior owner got her. Max was already a few years old and belonged to Fifi's owner's father. So he didn't live with her constantly but I think (maybe?) he felt the puppy was "his" to protect?

We decided that it was time to add a new member to the family after the passing of our last friend, Duke. This is Siggy posing in front of the Christmas tree. He loved trimming the bottom branches of the tree; even after being asked not to do so. He is young and still learning but seems to be a smart fella and extremely confident. If something startles him, his first reaction is to go check it out! We need to make sure he is trained well as he is going to be a beast; his dad is about 85lbs.

We just drove over 4 hours to the MK9 Veteran K9 Ranch to meet and adopt our new family member from the Mission K-9 Rescue.

Introducing 9 year old Belgian Malinois Military Working Dog Messi.

MWD Messi W459 has quite the history!

MWD Messi served in the Connecticut National Guard.

He was part of the only Active National Guard K-9 unit in the country.

Messi was a dual purpose PEDD (Patrol Explosive Detector Dog) and worked many state and federal missions.
Including many United States Secret Service missions and a deployment to Iraq.

We fully intend to give this deserving boy lots of well deserved attention and spoiling.

Took my pups to the dog park later than usual today. Sun was getting low in the sky and the light looked golden, really beautiful.

Actually, the true "dog park" portion of this park is closed being re-seeded. But this area of the park is unused except for people using it for their dogs. It is fenced on three sides and the fourth side is at a higher elevation so the dogs tend to stay on the fields chasing each other or thrown balls. Even when the true dog parks were open people still used it.

My dogs are the white one and the small one in the middle of the shot. There was a Dobermans, a Weimaraner, an Australian Shepherd and some other kind of gun dog I didn't recognize. They had a ball chasing each other. All were totally cool with each other, even my occasionally-a-shithead little guy, Max. Pleases me to see how much they LOVE going here. I try to do it almost every afternoon.

Love the sawdust pics. Can you imagine how great it would feel if you didn't wear clothes to just roll around in a nice pile of fresh sawdust, then give a quick shake and not give a damn if any was stuck on you? Then go lay on the furniture!

The Lab in the chair with blanket reminds me of our dear departed Bella. She was an odd loving little dog but there has never been a sweeter more gentle soul. Never heard a growl from her. Only ever wanted to be loved. Rest in paradise, my sweet little girl.
