Duro Chrome / Indestro also made one very similar. Model 648. There was one listed on Ebay the other day. I don't change batteries often enough to warrant buying one, though.

CRTI - that Herbrand Carburetor Tool Kit is too much! Float gauges and linkage tools and everything still in there!

I picked up this Herbrand No. 2146 half moon wrench yesterday at the flea market. I have a very meager half moon wrench collection (see Pic 5), which is the drawer this specimen will go in, rather than the Herbrand box, but it could also go in various WWII tool-sets, as it has one of the magic numbers (WPB allowed AISI low-dose triple-alloy steel formula "8642") forged on it near one of the box ends (See Pic 3). The interesting thing about half moon wrenches (typically for starters and manifolds), for me, anyway, is that you'd think they'd all have the same shape. I mean, a half moon is a half moon, right? The opposite is true. They all have unique shapes. And this Herbrand is one of the jauntiest in my collection.

Today at the local flea market I found this pair of Herbrand battery terminal lifter pliers. They are in amazingly good conditon for a battery tool! They come apart easily at the slip joint and the part that presses on the battery lug has grooves in it that are used to clean up the inside of the terminal.

I am also posting a page from my 1939 General Tool catalog that shows this tool.

I am used to the "gear puller" type of battery terminal puller, and this pair is the first "plier-type" terminal tool I remember seeing.

 Those are beautiful!

A forum buddy gifted me with a pair of 177 battery pliers like that. They are very unusual, and fit right in with my Indestro level and Blue Bird gear pullers.

It's only a cool battery carrier if you get it centered on the battery before picking it up and walking it across the parking lot to the customer's car.
Otherwise if you get the battery off-center it can tip and you can lose it. (Ask me how I know this. ;) )
We had both those and the strap type carriers - the straps were simpler and less expensive.

A good excuse to provide a visual prop from the K-D Wing of the Lugzsonian! :)

It's a Blue Bird. I have a pretty complete collection of their wrenches...
I've got Blue Bird branded 6" duck bill tin snips if you need them. Picked them up as placeholders in a WWII GMTK (ideal choice is WISS, verified supplier) a long time ago. What OEM is Blue Bird, anyway? I don't see it often, and now I'm curious. It's not something I'm aware of beyond guessing it was a house brand for an auto parts type store.

Bergman Tools is the manufacturer - I think Woody 73 has a thread on them.

Looking for Herbrand Script DOE ‘S’-wrenches with the bolt sizes marked rather than the opening sizes.
Just these three so far.

Found this Diamond-H Herbrand DOE with integral blade.
I assume a contract item to some machinery supplier.
Maybe for making adjustments and for lock-nuts in the textile industry or something.
Anyone have any information?

I found this little 1/4 in Herbrand 22000 ratchet at the flea market this morning. It isn't market USA anywhere on it. Anyone know where this was made? For $3 I thought I might as well take a chance on it. :headscrat

Pretty sure those ratchets and the sets they came in were made in Japan. Not exactly Herbrand's or Japan's finest. I came into a bunch of broken 1/4's recently, and many broken 3/8 in the past.

Picked up these six (6) matching 1/2-inch drive sockets today, including a deep. They're all 12-point. Believe it or not, these are the first wartime Herbrand sockets I have ever found. Block logo, bearing the VAN-CHROME branding, though I highly doubt they contain vanadium. They also have the Herbrand triangle symbol, no H. Deep crosshatch knurling, cadmium finish. I have some older ones, with the script logo and the light ribbed knurling, and I see Triangle era often enough. I am impressed. They are well-made and good-looking sockets.

I like the herbrand stuff, just don't see much of it
I love their deep sockets from that generation. They are really rare as well. Maybe see 2 sockets a year.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

I have found just one other deep socket in the wild, a DS-26 (13/16"), and it's earlier, with the script logo. See Pics 1 & 2.

I do have another rare piece, though, an A-394 1/2(F)-to-3/4(M) adaptor, also earlier with the script logo. Maybe I will start an auction on eBay and then list it as a BIN for $1,894! See Pics 3 & 4.

I picked up this kit at the flea market yesterday. Mike (txlonghorn1989) says he has the exact same one. I don't really collect Herbrand with this logo from this era (late 50's), still in Fremont, O., before Kelsey-Hayes and Triangle. But it was too nice (original paperwork!) and too cheap to leave behind.

This has apparently been my month to find Herbrand tappet wrenches. Here is a nice early matched pair I found at a garage sale yesterday. These are cad plated with the block Herbrand rather than the script logo of the one I found on 3/2/19.

Saw this tool box over the weekend. I like the style, but this one was kinda rusty and a bit high priced for me.

I was very surprised when I came across these in a small town here in Sweden. It's not often you see vintage USA brands here.

I was happy to find both ratchets working perfectly, if a bit gummed up by old grease.

That's a beautiful set, Tjo. The tools, box, and decal are in great condition. Based on the markings (mix of fancy script logo and block lettering logo) and finish (natural steel) it looks like wartime (1940's) to me. One of the ratchets even has an AISI steel number forged in the beam (87XX, 86XX). (The other might too, but you are only showing the flip side.) You won't find this on AA, but these were part of a small number of so-called "New Emergency" steels - all low-dose triple alloys - approved by the War Production Board during WWII, along with manganese steels and carbon steels, and you will find Herbrand tools with those AISI numbers in this period as well.

Bravo!

Thank you! Yes, both of the ratchets are marked 8742.

If they are that old, it's even more strange how they wound up here.

Considering much of the war was fought in Europe, the amount of American equipment lent to the British and used by USA and Canada, I'd say it might make perfect sense.

However I am nothing close to a true knowledgeable historian.

Hi all

Here are mine, found at a thrift store in Norway. This store has a lot of military surplus.
After the war, the Norwegian army was supplied by the US so there is a lot to be found of US equipment, also some tools.
These Herbrand Tappet are both 1/2 - 7/16
