Like the title says, "Let's see your kids workbench." Hopefully this thread will have a lot of ideas and photos like the other popular workbench thread here on GJ. I think it is important to start kids out in the garage as soon as they show intrest in it. My father was always good to show me how things worked and how to do repairs around the house and on cars. Anyways, let's post our kids workbenches.
The first picture is of my first child's workbench. Now that my wife and I have three kids I built a new bench that is longer and free standing. Their new bench is in the last two photos.

Great idea for a thread and nice job with your kid's bench. Right now my kid is stuck with the B&D plastic toy (he's 4) but soon we'll be moving up and this thread should give us some good ideas. Thanks. Subscribed

This is the workbench my grandfather built off of his when I was little...30 years ago...he has since passed and grams has painted it a few times but it's still there and makes me smile every time I see it..Some day when grams passes I am going to take the face off that front top drawer and mount it to the wall in my garage. He was a great man....

I'll play - not a workbench in the garage (he can use mine anytime), but a dedicated table for the boy to do whatever it is he wants to do. Typically Legos, as you can see. You can just make out the toolbox on the far right. He did have a clamp vise in there at one point, but not sure what he did with it.

He's ten, and wants to be an architect.

Perpetually messy. Particularly so today at time of picture. Gets it from his mother.

Great topic for a thread. Our sons are a grown and on their own so nothing to contribute but am thinking that I can collect some ideas for future builds.

cool idea for a thread,
Here is my 15 yr old's hobby desk, he wants to be a paleontologist or geologist.
I gave him about 12 different xmods.
Actually around $500 in highly modded Xmods rc's
They are there some where.
I just shake my head ... it's his space..
Oh and he gets it from his mother too

I have 3 kids. 9,8 and 3.
They would use my bench in the garage but never cleaned up. I then built this in the basement in there own corner with all there own tools. Just through scrap pieces of wood down there and they love it.
So do I because now my garage is mine again with only my mess.

Great posts guys! Glad to see the enthusiasum to post the workbenches. The new bench I posted has a work height of 22". I have a 2, 3 and 6 year old sharing it and that height seemed to work out about the best. It is a little short for my 6 year old when standing but not too bad. When she sits at it, it's perfect for her then. I am hoping the pegboard will help them keep track of their tools and encourage them to put tools up after they are finished.

Here is the bench I built for the RC's, which my 8 year old son and I enjoy together. This counts as his bench, right?!

I think it's great when parents and grand-parents are willing to spend time instilling a sense of "I can do this" in their kids & grand-kids. Far too many children today have no sense of the personal satisfaction that comes from building or repairing something with their own minds and hands.

A workbench for the kids is a great tool for getting them started in the garage. This topic comes up occasionally, but there are always new ideas and postings to enjoy. One thread from a couple years ago is at:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129077

The bench used by my grand-daughters was built by their great-grandfather and is shown in post #6 of the above thread.

It has been a while sine there was activity on this thread. I know there has to be more examples of kid's workbenches people have in their garage and just haven't posted them yet. If I remember right, Jack O built one not to long ago.

Mi kids are 12, 7 and 5. My oldest has started using mine for her projects, and my two youngest have decided they would take mine over as well, they just, have to use taller stools to sit on. Just gives me the excuse to build a new, larger work bench and I am sure there will be a couple smaller ones to go along with it.

I did. It's the most cluttered-looking thing in the shop -- it breaks several of my rules -- and of course, no one could ever get me to take it out.

My father built me one when I was four or five; it later got converted to holding a disk sander so no pictures now. My other bench was the kitchen table. I remember burning some magnesium ribbon that fell over and charred it, but my mother was watching the whole time and realized it was an accident, so there were no repercussions.

My eldest is all grown up now, 32 in fact, but i was still commissioned to build him a work bench for his new garage as Dads do.

It is an L shaped modular industrial style arrangement so it could transported to his place easilly.

I personalised it with one of his old push bike name plates mounted on the draw.

Stephenw, great job on the mini workmate. I would have never thought of that. Looks like that took some time. Good job.

I need to. Was thinking about it this past week. I bought them a set of tools from HF the other day. They need a bench.

I worked for Home Depot for five years so....

He's two and this is in the living room with the rest of his toys. He follows me out to the garage when I'm out there. Sometimes he goes out by himself.

Never fails, he always finds the sharpest thing possible, like the box knife or paint scraper to pick up.

So has anyone built their kids a workbench lately?

I built this one for my 4 year old nephew for Christmas. The tool cabinet with tools is a vintage set I found on ebay. I also restored a Stanley No. 700 clamp on vise for him to use on the bench. The vise used to belong to his late Great Grandfather.

Looking at these pictures reminds me of my Dad showing me how to use an electric drill. I still remember his hands on mine because I was never drilling straight :)

I'm going to help my 8 year old son build his first work bench. I am going to use all used lumber, and have him pull all the nails out himself. I'm going to cut all the boards for him and he'll assemble it (With my help if course).

He doesn't know it yet, but I have a vise that I'm going to give him to mount to it. It's not usa made, but it'll be good for his first.

I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

Oh great another project........... is what my wife is about to say!

My 5yr old daughter would love one.... She has her own small tool box full of real tools that she "helps" me with on everything I work on. She needs a bench and next a rolling tool chest

my 5 yr old has one of the plastic BD work benches out in the garage, but usually he is at my workbench standing on a stool. He got his own set of real tools and a box for christmas. We have already completed a few projects and he is happy as a clam.

Gojeremy, the little workbench is built out of 2x6s. The top is 11" x 30" and the small shelf is just one 2x6 wide.

I own a Stanley No. 700 woodworking vise.
They are really great and I like using them while woodworking.
Anyone knows when approximately they were manufactured ???
