Round here a "cheap" used one will be 10-12k. For that price I'd rather have a 25-30hp compact 4x4 tractor and be able to use it for other things as well like cutting grass

Surprised more guys don't have skid steers to clear driveways. They can be bought pretty cheap!

How do you like your tiller plow? I bought a troybilt tiller a couple years ago and saw they make blades for them and always wondered how they work? I have a decent troybilt snowblower but I also take care of my grandma's yard work and all I have there is a smaller single stage so any wet snow is no good. If the plow works decent I might take the tiller over to her house for the winter and use that. Would make my life a lot easier if they work good. Any problems with traction when pushing snow? How deep of snow can you push?

Cheap and skid steer are words that do not go together.

it all depends on your definition of "cheap".......

some how, I ended up with two skid steers because they were cheap.....

Here they are.... there is about $10k total for all of this equipment...

1980-ish Bobcat 642 with a gas engine

2000 New Holland LS-150

Clark forklift.... (not used for snow removal, but was in the picture)

It wasn't cheap, but boy it sure makes quick work of a long driveway with a 10' plow (its got a door, a wiper and heat, but Im usually done plowing before the engine warms up). Ive got chains for it, in the event things get "out of hand". Next year its going to have snow tires on it, I run out of traction when it gets a couple feet deep.

I've got a JD430 with the new style 2 stage 48" blower. There's a shaft adapter off the engine pulley that drives the blower. The hydraulics on the tractor lift the blower and swivel the shute. Works well but takes too long to set up and not enough snow. So it sits in the shed and I use my 30 year old "The Bay" snowblower that I've rebuilt twice. Faster and more fun.

I got lucky and found the plow on craigslist for $25. It works pretty good. I like using it when the snow is really wet and heavy. You can rotate the plow off to the sides and take multiple passes and it does well. I used it the other day on 4" of wet snow. They make better tires for plowing...mine are the turf tires...you can also get chains. If i could find the other tires...id get a set.

Thank you for the details. Think I'm going to have to look into this more. Would be a huge life saver if I can use my rototiller that just sits around in the winter as a plow at my grandma's. Her single stage blower doesn't handle wet snow at all.

If you get a chance could you take a few more photos to show how it works as far as angle and how it's attached to the tiller.

I have been using this for the last 7+ years. It's a 2003 New Holland TC35D, I have a choice of tools, the 72" bucket or the 7.5' fisher plow with hydraulic angle.

Not much to look at, but I have used this little lawn mower sized tractor (er,,, go kart with big wheels) to push snow down our 100 yard long driveway. Anything over 6 inches, and she bogs down too much. Outside of that she will plow right through it, wet or dry!

Nothing special. Ariens 927 LE, (9HP, 27" wide) bought 2 winters ago. My only regret is that they were in the middle of transitioning to Briggs engines and I didn't want to wait, so I bought it with the Tecumseh. The last couple of years before the company was dissolved, Tecumseh engines weren't what they used to be. Hopefully if I take care of it it will be OK. If not, I'll just swap in a B&S or Robbins/Subaru later. Excuse the mess...it was "re-organize the garage day" so I had a lot of stuff down from the shelves.

I wouldn't worry too much. The Tecumseh Snow Kings got the best parts. Mine is at 17 years and running strong.

That Ariens is PURDY!
I've got the Tecumseh 5hp Snow King on my Troy Bilt. It's a beast. I'm sure the 9 HP won't have to work too hard, right? What's a "Heavy" snowfall for that monster?

We had 16" on our drive 1 day and in low gear, it was NO problem, even though it had maxed out the height of the housing!

Me, broke my 37 year old tractor, and bought a brand, spank-in' new Cub Cadet 526. I've got 4+ feet of snow so far this winter, and it's more than paid for itself.

i believe its a 1979 model. it was given to me by a buddy who worked at one of the local hardware stores - an old lady brought it claming it was junk and wouldnt run. told them to scrap it and she bought a new blower. it hadn't been used! these pictures are from 2006 and since then i've used and abused it. all i've done is changed oil and spark plugs and it keeps on tickin. o, and also added snow chains. i think these were made in wisconsin............

I've had snow up over the intake housing and it wasn't even bogging down. That's dry, fluffy stuff though. With heavy slush, it bogs down when it's a few inches. My previous snowblower was a "cheapie" Yard Machines from Home Depot, with the Tecumseh SnoKing 8HP engine. You can feel the difference going up just that one HP...but then again my previous one wasn't running right the last 2 years I had it. It did fine the first few years but then I couldn't get it to run right. I messed around with the carb. and eventually ended up buying a new one, but it still wouldn't run at high rpm. I was starting to wonder if I bent a valve or something. I was sick of messing with it and saw a local Craigslist ad looking for "project" yard equipment. So I sold it to him and bought the new toy. My only complaint is that even the lowest gear creeps a little too fast forward.

Briggs isn't what it used to be, either.
